Kaeding fake field goal

What did you think about the Nate Kaeding fake field goal? I am not sure what to think. I know I loved it during the game. It was pretty cool. Nate needs as many game situation kicks as possible in my opinion. Then again it no doubt gave him that need mental confidence kickers need so badly this league. What do you think?

I love an occasional trick play. I don't think making a short FG like that would have done much for his confidence anyway. He needs a shot at a few longer ones. The over the shoulder flip seems a bit risky though.

On the other hand - they really need to work hard on the red zone offense. They march 70 or 80 yards with ease and then stop dead at he five yard line - not good! Of course, I'd like to think that having LT play would make a difference in that. Anyway, I liked the fake field goal, next lets use the fake punt! That kind of stuff gives Houston something extra to think about. i/expressions/light.gif

I think it's beyond stupid to use fake special teams plays in the preseason.

Shouldn't they keep that buried until they need it for a chance to make the playoffs?

I don't it's as big a deal as everyone is making it out to be. Marty wanted 7 on the board not 3. He went for 7. Damn him for being so conservative!

I liked it. I do agree it is someways silly to do it in preseason when it doesn't count, but it will slow down the rush on the kicker some. I don't remember EVER the Chargers scoring a TD on a fake FG before. Can any of you?
Kaeding did better than last week He didn't miss a FG and got one kick to the goal line. I think he will be good. His kicks are really high quick and his kickoffs have great hang time. I don't think any have been run back past the 35.

They say his kicks are quite a bit higher than Hoambreckers. It does appear that they are in the air longer. By the way, the ST play was the best in a long time last night.

I noticed he had three kicks around the 5-yard line in the niner game. I was told by the special teams coach that everyone of his kicks have had a hang time of 4+

To me he has improved each game so far.

Except that ... we think that we'll never use it in the real season - that's why we used it in pre, to cleverly trick them into thinking we might use it.

Except that ... they know that we think that they think we might use it so ... they'll assume that we won't use it. But we'll know that.
