I'm in Helena and I have been a Chargers fan since I knew what a football was. I was born in San Diego but have lived in Montana for 23 years. Besides a few people I met as a bartender, I havent seen very many Chargers fans around here... and of course we never get the games

I lived in Great Falls for 6 years in the 80's and early 90's in the Air Force. I live in Donkeyville now but miss Great Falls alot. I plan on taking my wife up there some time. She likes the outdoors like I do so she would love it.

I never thought that Great Falls was all that scenic of a place...luckily everything west is VERY scenic. If you havent been to the western part of the state I would highly reccommend it to you and your wife. I would also suggest you visit between April and September to avoid the horrible weather the other 6-7 months. " If you wait until tomorrow to visit Montana - you will be a day older when you fall in love with it" I heard that somewhere and I think it is true!

The summers are very hot and the winter is very cold (I think Great Falls can compete with Chicago for the windiest city.)

Great Falls is the windiest city in America. Chicago was called the "Windy City" because of all the "hot wind" (political BS), it was a very political city. Although I hear that Chicago does get some of the coldest wind chills that blow in off of the Great Lakes.
Western Montana isnt as windy because of all of the mountains, but does get more snow.

Big Sandy definately counts. I lived in a town smaller than Big Sandy when I was growing up, but Big Sandy will always be one of the most famous towns in Montana because the bass player from Pearl Jam/Temple of the Dog/ Mother Love Bone came from Big Sandy. His name is Jeff Ament by the way.
The last Pearl Jam show I went to they dedicated a song to everyone from Big Sandy....the song was "Elderly woman behind the counter in a small town". It can be found on Ares or Warez sometimes.

Wow, that is bigger than I expected! I live in Helena now, but I did live in a town called Hall- which had one bar, one little store, one post office and a lumber mill. I figured Big Sandy was more that size. Missoula is about a big a town as I can handle, so I dont dislike small towns at all, I was the only kid in my grade in my school from 2-8 grade!
Always a pleasure to meet another Bolt fan from the frozen north.

Here is a write up on the Pro Days at U of M and MSU.....maybe we will see some local players in the NFL this season. Casey Fitzsimmons career took a step backwards when the Lions signed a TE a week or so ago. I figured some of you guys might enjoy checking it out too.

EDIT-- Now that I read that over I realize that it only has Montana State on that link.... I t seems like it had U of M last time I read it....sorry!

U of M's Justin Green FB Green did everything at combine. Here he just weighed in (242).
Craig Oaks QB Oaks was at the combine, so he did not have a complete workout here. He was 6-2, 211, ran his 40s in 4.89 and 4.83, had a 29-inch vertical, and that's all.
Corey Procter OL Procter (6-4 5/8, 305) ran his 40s in 5.25 and 5.31. He had a 25½-inch vertical, an 8-foot-5 long jump, a 4.62 short shuttle, no long shuttle, a 7.60 in the cone drill, and 15 reps.
Willie Walden TE Walden stood in at 6-7 and 278 pounds. He ran 4.95 and 5.04 in the 40, had a 29-inch vertical, an 8-foot-11 long jump, a 5.09 short shuttle, a 13.67 long shuttle and a 7.86 in the three-cone drill. He also did 16 reps.

Tom, we will be happy if Summer comes at all this year! March 17th and it is supposed to snow 8 inches in the mountains tonight. The good news is that it is only a light snow right now, but the bad news is that in Western Montana WE ARE ALL "IN THE MOUNTAINS"!!!

The Bitterroot is a great area and alot of the surrounding area is great as well. I hope that you had a chance to spend some time in Missoula, it is the best town in Montana by far. If you and your motorcycle are ever in Montana again (remember that our summer "weekend" is on its way) there is a great ride around Seely Lake and through towns like Ovando and Avon....pretty much a bar and a post office. It is a great ride and if you know of the area Im sure you could really appreciate it. The road was actually redone about 3 years ago so it is very smooth and pothole free (for Montana)

Sweet ... I'm planning another trip sometime this summer, so maybe I can get back up that way. The trout fishing is off the hook, and that's my main concern when I am out that way. Love fishing, and seeing this great country of ours. I'd like to ride the Highway To The Sun some day. People I've talked to say it is an amazing ride.

If you ever get down Utah way, my folks run a little 5 unit motel in the middle of the state. There are about 10 different lakes within 5-30 minutes of their place. Great scenery and great fishing. Stop in, and tell em you're a Charger fan. They'll take care of you. If you have a map, look in central Utah, and find a town called Junction. It's on highway 89. That town has about 300 people in it, and their motel is one of 3 businesses. Nice place, good people. The Junction Motel (what else? i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif ) Tell em Tom sent ya!

Go Chargers!!

If you are here for the fishing then you are right to be down in the Bitteroot. God himself couldnt point you in the direction of a more scenic and peaceful day of fishing in Montana.

Unfortunately, alot of the fishing there is right up next to property owned by "the white man" and is getting harder and harder to be able to fish it without some rich out of stater giving you some grief. Still a great place to fish!

It just so happens that central Utah is about half the way between where i live and San Diego. I hope to make my way to so cal sometime before Im buried.....if I am ever in the neighborhood I will definately take you up on your offer!

Go Bolts!

Bubbachuck informed me of a local (Helena) guy playing in NFL Europe. http://www.nfleurope.com/players/playerpage/1403 Greg Carothers played high school ball in Helena (Capital High) and college ball at Washington.

Justin Green from the U of M is projected as a 7th round pick at FB, and Roger Cooper from MSU is projected anywhere from the 5th to the 7th as a LB too.

Any other info that the rest of you have on Montana guys would be apprecited. :Bolt:

They say Brees was a former first rounder :D They also say Cleo was on the practice squad. He was the 4th QB on the active roster...do your research!! :D

Ochs, who transferred from Colorado before the 2003 season, threw for 5,419 yards and 42 touchdowns in two years at Montana. He’s one of four quarterbacks on San Diego’s preseason roster and will play for the third-string spot behind former first-round picks Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers. His main competition will be Cleo Lemon, who played on the team’s practice squad last season, he said.

Hi guys and gals!
I posted on another thread for the first time before I saw this one so I thought I'd throw my two cents in. It was really difficult growing up in Chicago and trying to be a Bears fan. I'm talking about the late 60's and the 70's. Run three...punt. Run three...punt. Then there came a day that I was watching the late game on CBS and I saw this guy who was actually throwing the ball! I said to myself, "What's this?" I continued to watch and immediately knew that Dan Fouts was THE REASON to watch football and I've loved the Boltz ever since! Through the highs ( the 80' team and getting to SB XXIX) and the lows ( Well, I'll "Leaf" that alone). I'll stick by this team through thick and thin! Glad to be part of the forum and I hope you welcome me.

Welcome to the forum 22!

I grew up as a Bears/Chargers fan too. I was born and raised until I was 5 in the San Diego area, but spent the next 24 years in Montana. Growing up, I only had 2 channels- one was an NBC affiliate and the other was WGN out of Chicago.
I was a San Diego Chargers fan since birth.....but I became an actual fan of the game of football by watching Walter Payton and Mike Singletary on sundays.

Nice to meet you and nice to have you aboard 22!

For those of you who can’t get the games up there, I have to agree with the Storm here. I’m a retired naval officer but when I was on active duty I had the same problem back in 1994 when I was forced to watch the local teams (sucky at the time Jets, Giants, Eagles, and Patriots) even when far better games (e.g. 49rs vs. Cowboys) were on. I finally decided to get the DirecTV thing at a time when the satellite dishes and receivers were a whole lot more expensive than they are now. It was a bit of a sacrifice at the time but as I have few other forms of entertainment, one worth making for those long winter days indoors. Now that I’ve had it for 12 years, I can’t imagine life without it. Having the NFL Ticket is lick flying First Class; once you’ve done it, you’ll never want to go back!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot; my Mom was from Butte and my Dad from Great Falls. I was born and raised in San Diego but we used to go to “home” to Montana every summer when I was a kid. I did the Navy thing for 25 years and now live in Arizona but I was able to go back to Montana for the first time in 30 years for a big family reunion this past summer and fell in love with it all over again. Went on a float trip down the Missouri River amongst other things and had a hell of a great time. I’m now looking for some kind of property that I can rent to skiers or whatever in the winter (I don’t do serious snow - - got enough of it living back east for 13 years) and then live in myself with my family in the summer as I am now a high school teacher and can take a month or two off every summer just to hang out.

Welcome guys, good to see more Montanans show up here.
I've been a die hard fan since '92...and I'm one of very few here.

MT Bolt Fan,
Hope the smoke is clearing up for your area. My parents live in Pipestone, and it was awful last week...Not to mention an additional fire between Big Timber and Billings right beside the freeway on the way back that wasn't there three days earlier. It's a bad year for fires considering all the moisture everyone thought we had.

Charger fans from Butte to Bozeman should know that the Gourmet Pizza Chalet in Belgrade shows all the Charger games. Fans in full Blue & Gold gear will be in attendance. Come make some noise with your Charger fam.:Helmet:

Was just checking in to see what folks had to say in regards to the new wide receiver and noticed the Montana Bolts fan thread. It does my heart good to see how many of us are here...I'm in Butte, but grew up in the SD area. Has season tickets for a few years, back in the 'Air-Coryell' days. Been in Montana since '89 but just moved to Butte a year ago. My heart is still in Clinton, but job is here. Wish we could get more games in TV without buying Sunday ticket!!!
