Hey Charger fans,
Let's try to all meet up at a bar somewhere in the central Phoenix area for the upcoming Monday Night Raider game on Sept 11,2006.
It would be nice to meet some of the Charger fans here in Phoenix, so we can all watch us woop on some Raider butt!
If anyone knows of a good bar in the area with good big screen tv's, Please post.
Lets all do this!!!!:Helmet:

I found this bar on 51st ave and northern, its called connoly's. The owner is from SD, got married there, and all kinds of good stuff. Anyways, there is a big mural of LT on the wall, and the games will be shown every Sunday. Charger bar if I ever saw one.

I kept my season tickets so I go to S.D. for the home games. We have a sports bar here in Anthem and one of the owners is a Charger fan so when the Bolts are on the road, I go there to see my team. Very few Bolt fans but at least I never miss a game.:Bolt: :Helmet:

as long as i have lived in phoenix, i have not found a *charger bar*...but there are always charger fans at the bars i go to. there used to be a place in tempe that was owned by a guy from san diego, and always had the padre games one, and made sure charger games were on as well. that place is long gone.....

i live in midtown phoenix, and found a place called hazzlewood's on 34th street and indian school. many charger fans go there to watch the games.

Hey Lefty In The Pen, I live near you off 16th St. & Indian School Rd. Read your posts about a Chargers sports bar in Phoenix. Been looking for one for 10 years since I moved from Diego. Spoke with the owners of Connolly's, Michelle & Brian. Like what I heard about their establishment & their allegiance to the Bolts. Told them they should pledge you for the post you submitted on this forum site. Look forward to possibly meeting you this Sunday.

I was happy to find very fun groups of diehard Chargers fans at Zipps Sports Grill in North Scottsdale (on Frank Lloyd Wright). It is a great place, but it gets packed quickly, food is great, good drink specials, lots of big screens, not as uppity as Fox Sports Grill...and best of all, GREAT CHARGERS FANS can be found there!!! :Bolt:

Yeah dude, you can get 'em cheap on eBay still. We paid $37 a ticket (126 row 7 I think) but that's because I have bought other tickets from the guy and I trust him.

When it gets closer to time we will have to organize something. I wish I had a pool, we could combine pool party with tailgating with game! :LightsOut:

There are still plenty of $20-30 tickets to the Cardinals pre-season game on ebay. Although we all know preseason royally sucks, it would be great to fill seats with blue. I'll be at the Yardhouse or Coyote's by the stadium before the game with 3 other Chargers fans. Come join.

I put the Cardinals and Bolts schedules on my Outlook Calendar, and there are some weekends where the Cardinals are at home when we are too:

September 30
October 14
November 11 (but we play that night)
November 25

Plus I think there are some where the Cardinals are away but they still have the TV rights in the area and we'd have to go anyways

ActionJackson
07-19-2007, 09:47 AM
If my calculations are correct, there will be 4 guaranteed televised Charger games in Phoenix and another 4 probable games according to FOX and CBS 2007 national schedules. This leaves 8 games at Connelly's for sure. I'll bring the schedule.

The Renaissance won't be done until September, which is too bad. It'd be perfect!

When my family visits, they stay at the Hampton Inn (Peoria) at 83rd and Bell. Its just about 10 minutes on the 101 north of Westgate, and theres tons of places to eat around it, as Bell is a busy street. (Its right by where the Padres come for spring training also)

The Neils are GREAT CHARGERS FANS! I had so much fun last season at Zipps on FLW with them. I moved down to Chandler, but I am willing to commute back to North Scottsdale to be surrounded by good people like the Neils and other Chargers faithful. I have lived in Chandler for 8 months now, and have yet to find a Chargers bar anywhere in the Chandler/Gilbert/Mesa area. Connelly's is too far for me.

Went to Zipps on Frank Lloyd Wright and 100th St in N. Scottsdale to watch the Chargers beat the Bears, met up with the Neils (very cool couple), and once again Zipps did not disappoint...quite a few Chargers fans there today! There were an awful lot of Pats fans there, though, so I am sure there will be plenty of Mass-holes there next weekend
I won't be there for that game, but that will be my place for the rest of the season, unless I am back home watching at the Q! :Bolt:

If the game on the 23rd isn't on local TV I'll head over there. In the meantime you guys are all welcome Sunday night. I'm skipping my soccer game. Oops.

Sunday, September 30 1:15 PM Kansas City Chiefs
Sunday, October 7 1:15 pm @ Denver
Sunday, October 14 1:15 pm Oakland Raiders
Sunday, October 28 1:05 pm Houston Texans
Sunday, November 4 10:00 am @ Minnesota
(I'll be in SD Sunday, November 11 5:15 pm Indianapolis Colts)
Sunday, November 18 10:00 am* @ Jacksonville
Sunday, November 25 1:15 pm* Baltimore Ravens
Sunday, December 2 10:00 am* @ Kansas City
Sunday, December 9 10:00 am* @ Tennessee
Sunday, December 16 1:15 pm* Detroit Lions

John and Jen, I know I can count on you to be there ... anyone else coming up to the Northeast side for some Chargers football???? Please be sure to wear the proper attire (CHARGERS GEAR!) and get there early cuz the place fills up fast!! http://www.zipps-sportscafe.com/locations/flw.html

I, however, will be at Zipps in North Scottsdale to see the Kansas City Q*eefs get a beatdown from the Chargers, who will turn the corner on Sunday!

The owner is a Mark McGwire look alike but he is a huge fan and his wife is nice to look at and is super cool. Its a small little neighborhood bar like you would see in PB. Decent food and about 8 different beers on tap. Two weekends ago the female bartender was flashing everybody, tits and ass you wouldnt see that in a larger bar which is nice........ did i mention the stripper pole, Sundays nights are wacky!! If you are in Scottsdale or the East Valley, come up to Zipps on Frank Lloyd Wright and 100th St - it only takes me 20 minutes to get there from Chandler/Ocotillo. We have a blast up there, it gets packed pretty quickly, we usually grab a table at the bar.

If North Scottsdale is too far, you can check out Native New Yorker in Chandler (I had mentioned it is on S. Alma School near Ocotillo Rd, but I drove by the other day and it is just before you hit Chandler Heights Blvd, so about 3 blocks south of Ocotillo Rd). My neighbors have been going there, fun group gathers in the bar, although they said you do get a bit of the Sun Lakes (old) crowd there cheering for the Vikings  or the Packers!

Connelly's is just too far for this East sider, and being a girl, it is a little too dark an environment for me. No offense, it is a great place for some rough and tough, diehard Chargers fans!

So, I am off to Zipps in North Scottsdale today to meet up with my favorite Chargers fans and hope some of you can head up there, too!

Sorry we missed you at Zipps on FLW for the Chargers-Colts! I went to San Diego to watch the Chargers pick off Satan Manning 6 times and send those ponies back to Indiana so Satan can go make more commercials! I think since it was the Sunday Night game on NBC, a lot of people stayed home to watch it. But we are back and have been representing at the bar at Zipps ever since. You will always find me wearing the #21 jersey, either the powder blue alternate or the home jersey, and a few equally well-dressed Chargers fans with me!

We will be in San Diego for the Christmas Eve game vs the Donkos, but Zipps on FLW and 100th St is our place any other time. They do not open until 11 AM, which sucks because the Chargers-Titans game starts right when they open, but I will find my spot at the bar, powder blue #21 jersey on, hope to see more Chargers fans there! :logo

the zipps in chandler is better

but, the only charger bar in town is at Connolly's. this is not just a few charger fans hanging out and exchanging high 5's, but actual charger fans, with an LT fathead on the wall, and a charger helmet fathead on the wall, with charger stuff everywhere.....

the owner's wife is from san diego.....we are talking about a bunch of charger fans....it is well worth the trip....

unfortunately, i won't be there until the first playoff game.....but i will drive that far just to be there....it is a great place to watch the game, and you feel at home with all the charger fans.....

this sunday, at Connolly's....be there or be square....

i know it is far for some of us, but well worth the trip....you are not going to a bar and hoping to find a couple of fellow charger fans to high five during the game, you are going to a bar filled with charger fans throughout.....

i think the wife of the owner is from san diego...helix high if i remember correctly.....

I'm thinking about coming through, but I'm real superstitious about watching it other than where I usually watch, because they've been winning so far! Lol.

If we make it to the Super Bowl, how many of you guys are going? Or, if you're not going, how many are just showing up to tailgate? I'm TOTALLY there to tailgate, if I can't get a ticket.

the only football fans they got in phx. az. are 49er fans and cowboy fans and now probably patriot fans for the longest az had no team so they had to ban wagen on the best at the time i havent been back since 2001 but i know at that time you didnt see cardinal fans any where. hopefully the zonies appreciate now the fact that they have a pro football team . and start backing the home team.. signed 1 1904 chargers fan until the wheels fall off from 1-15 to 11-5 i dont care thats my team im from san diego so thats where the hart is now you probably see giants fans all over phx. now....

I read this post 3 times and I still don't get it.

What I did get is that you dont think that there are any Charger fans in Arizona. To correct you sir, there are A LOT of Charger fans out here. Most of us moved here from San Diego for any number of reasons. Personally, I moved here for school. As for the numerious amount of others, I don't really know. Regardless, there are a BUNCH of ex San Diegans in the desert.

yes, plenty of ex-san diegans here in the valley of the sun....and plenty of charger and padre fans that have not let go of those roots....

arizona has always been dallas cowboy country...before they had their own team, the cowboys were the #1 team in the AZ.....everyone here who was here before the cards, either absolutelyloves the cowboys, or absolutely loathes them....there is no in between...for baseball, it was always the giants....they were here for spring training first and the longest, and the minor league team was the giants AAA team forever.....

don't forget, phoenix, much like southern california, has a huge transplant population, and many if not all of those people do not lose their love for their original teams.....

I am a native San Diegan (and a Charger fan for 46 or my 52 years) whose last job in the Navy was in Phoenix (yes, I know there is no ocean here but there is a Navy presence nonetheless). I was given the option of here or San Francisco as the "twilight tour" of my 25-year career and I chose here for one very obvious reason; even though a senior officer, trying to live in a decent home anywhere in the Bay Area with a wife and three children would have bankrupted me.

So the desert it was and I have never looked back. I have a very nice, very affordable home (compared to San Diego); I sold the home I owned in Oceanside at a very nice profit, and as a second career I teach high school history and coach some football (which I have done off and on over the years as my military duties would allow) so it's all good. My kids have lived here longer (seven years) than anywhere else, and while San Diego will always be "home," Arizona is where I have chosen to put down new roots. I love Phoenix and even though there is no beach, I do have my backyard bay, and like San Diego, there is plenty to do both indoors and out. I just wish the Cards were in the AFC West so that I could see the Chargers in person at least once per year. Otherwise, my DirecTV puts me front row center for all of the Bolts games.

You live in Arrowhead too? (on the lake)

You going to join us at Connolly's this fall?

Actually north of Arrowhead by about two or three miles; a newer area called "Stetson Hills" just off Happy Valley Road and three or four miles west of I-17. Ours was one of the first families in the development back in 2001 (I fell into a spec home when I was out from DC house hunting, that the original buyer had to back out of because the home they were living in wouldn't sell . . . the wife's "dream home" by pure chance because otherwise they were out of inventory in that model and weren't going to build anymore . . . I often think there are/were "other forces" that wanted me to stay here and teach and coach, because it sure wasn't the money, LOL!). The high school my kids attend is Sandra Day O'Connor which is about a mile and one-half to the east of me, if that means anything.

Anyway, I would love to join you and other fellow fans at Connolly's if I can convince "She Who Must Be Obeyed" that my Sunday afternoons should be spent in a local sports bar having (shock) fun! As far as she's concerned, even after 35 years of me trying to teach her the game and me having been a high school player and on again off again coach, NFL stands for "No Fun League." I shall work on her. BTW, being Irish, the St. Patrick's Day stuff sounds ready made for me too!

I am trying out this Connelys thing this year at least for a few games. I just bought a new 57" HD so I would like to enjoy some games on that as well. It usually pulls in a good Charger crowd, and we would love to have more show up.

Hi we are from San Diego!!! We are coming in to the Phoenix area on 9-25-08 and would like a place to watch our beloved CHARGERS for the games.. We would like to have a place to see them with some sort of comfort and would like to be around good people "and when I say good people, I mean CHARGER FANS". We are going to read the blogs so that we can see if anyone is out there. Or you can e-mail me "Kat and or George" @ sdchargerfan7972@yahoo.com. Thank you and we do appreciate any help. GO CHARGERS!!!!! We hope you don't get robbed in this up coming game!!!!!

:logoAwesome!!!! i was hoping there'd be a good place to go to over in the east valley, seeing how Connolly's is a bit far from me.
I gotta see the SD/DEN game with some SD fans no doubt!! I'm wearing SD stuff all week until the game. I had to tolerate haters the past couple days and all I can say to them is, "Screw you, and go play in traffic."
My ex is from the denver area.....nuff said. I hate the broncos.

Good to see Charger fans in AZ. I have a house in Lake Havasu City, and I was suprised at all the Charger fans I ran into at a local bar there this season.

Any Phoenix area Bolts fans going to the upcoming Colts game? I will be driving to SD on Friday for the game and would love to take some fans with me or meet up overthere for some tailgating.

Just wanting to know if any Charger fans that live in the Phoenix area know of "Charger Sports Bars"?

Thanks for the information
Go Bolts!
SDSU Alum owns The Dark Horse Sports Bar & Grill and is of course a SD Charger and Padre fan. The bar at 4929 W. Ray Rd. #3 Chandler, Az. on the SE Corner of Ray & Rural honors Happy Hour prices during all SD games.
You must try the $1 TJ Street Tacos, the Rooster Burger (made famous at the Red Rooster in Oceanside) or the Raiders Suck Burrito, they are great.
Ask for Lisa, the owner, she will be the one wearing her LT jersey.

Anyone thinking that they might want to go to the preseason game against the red-birds? Hubby and I are going to get tickets and plan to go no matter what, but I thought it would be fun to get a group together. Perhaps some of the Connolly's regulars want to meet up there first and then hit the stadium to watch the Bolts kick some Cardinal butt...

Hey Guys, brand new to the forum, sick of going to the bar solo to watch the bolts play. Where is the place to be to watch Charger games in Az where I am not the only fan there? Also I have my tickets for the preseason game, Family coming in town to go, have about 8 people going to the game. Looking forward to meeting some other fans who are going. - Brian:logo

Connelly's... 51st Ave and Glendale Blvd.

The owner is form SD. 90% of the people that are there on Sundays are Chargers fans. A few other strays but still a great place to catch a Bolts game.

Would you believe somebody ripped the 50 Year Anniversary Bolts sticker off my rear windshield?

It had to have taken them 10 minutes. Seriously?
