Hey guys...
I always enjoy reading everyone's comments on this board. Seems to me that we everyone is very knowledgeable about football. For me... i just love the excitement and the fun of the game. I'm not too much of an X and O type of person, so i refrain from posting.

Anyhow, I think this might be an interesting pick-up for the short term this year. I know he's aging but he could help with depth and with veteran leadership. Below is an article from Fanball.com.

Bills: Shaw waived
The News
Receiver Bobby Shaw was cut on Wednesday. The Bills attempted to trade the seven-year veteran, but there were no takers for a receiver who had fallen to fifth on the Bills' receiver depth chart. He had five catches for 59 yards this year.
Our View
Shaw was deemed expendable due to the emergence of rookie Lee Evans, who has come on in recent weeks. This has no real impact on the fantasy landscape. The move probably has as much to do with the Bills trying to shake up their roster in an attempt to break out of an 0-4 slump to start the season. Even if Shaw catches on with another team, he is not worth a fantasy roster spot.

I saw this but I don't think he would add much to our offense. I think we are better off working with the guys we have than trying to bring in a mediocre veteran who has to learn the system midseason. Unless of course its Jerry Rice, and that just ain't gonna happen.

True...
but i also look at history with our WR's. Parker usually gets hurt, cause they put him in punt return (id much rather see D-Flo in at that position) and Tim Dwight seems to be fine now... but i'm not sure how long that would last..... i just think Bobby and Reche as our wideouts would be a good start... and then throw in Osgood for our 3 wideout sets.... if Parker and Dwight go down.

Shaw might be an interesting pickup. Not sure weather Cam feels the same though.

I think we would have to cut someone to add him. A Vet receiver would be nice, but who do we get rid of?

I would actually support the move. Osgood HAS NOT impressed me at all and Parker has been invisible other than game one.

Caldwell and Shaw is an upgrade IMO.

That would be a good question... who would we cut to pick up ANY WR's....(if a quality WR were released)

Osgood is our #1 blocking wide receiver.

He can block kicks too!!!

Har-dee-har-har!

Osgood is sophomore slumping, just like Reche did last year. He'll come around.

Besides, everybody's squawking about how our WRs haven't caught many passes lately. NEWS FLASH! They haven't had to! We've scored 30+ points the past two games with very little WR help. When Gates and LT can do it, we don't need the WRs to step up.

I think Osgood has all the talent. I just want to see Drew throw his way.

Drew usually has one favorite receiver. First it was Conway, then Dwight, then Boston. Now it's Gates and Caldwell. At least he's trying to spread the ball.

I hope they take a look at him. He's had some decent seasons - over 600 yards a couple of times. He's only 29 years old so he's not too old. He's not a burner but he can get open and he can catch. So far, Caldwell is the only WR we have that's been able to do that. I love Parker, but he's hurt a lot and Osgood isn't getting open. I think they have to try something because a team with a top cover Corner can put him on Caldwell and we're down to just a TE and RB to catch passes. Somehow, someone else has to step in. I'd sure take a look at Shaw if I was the GM. - No charge to work him out! I wish they'd move LT out wide now and then and throw to him. So far this season the only throws to him have been dumpoffs and screens.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to take a look but i'd still like to see some of our kids step up.

Where is Osgood and Parker? Haven't seen them since the Houston game

However, Parker and Tim are often injured and Osgood still hasn't learned how to use his body to block out the defenders. I still think Osgood could become a good WR because he's a hard worker but it will take time. We need someone other than Caldwell now, not next year. I think Bobby Shaw could be just what we need.

i think we just need a proven vet who can help stretch the defense and has proven he can catch the ball.
we just need someone solid opposite of Reche.

I am a Bills fan primarily and a Bolts fan secondly. I live in Buffalo and Shaw was our second best receiver last year. He was third on the depth chart but far out-performed our #2 receiver. He is great on third downs. It certainly wouldn't hurt for the Chargers to pick him up, or at least take a look at him.

I thought it was a terrible move by the Bill's management.

agreed, game highlights from Bills final few games of their 03' season really showed Shaw making some plays. He could get open with defenders covering Moulds. I think he'll be a decent pick up, in case in some game the opposing defense neutralizes the TE and RB from our passing game. Chargers past two weeks reminds me of Vermeil's style of offense throwing mostly to TEs and RBs but also having wideouts that can be adequate when the other two are shut out.

I wish they'd take a look at this guy more than ever now that Reche' is hurt. Even if he's only out a week or two, Shaw is a very decent WR. We could use him.

Quick stats on Bobby Shaw

C&P from UT boards....

According to Jim Trotter on Monday Night Live. He said that Reche's MRI came back cloudy and that they'll have to do it again tomorrow. They are looking to sign another receiver... and Jim says they are targetting Bobby Shaw.

I like the reference to a "cloudy MRI's" .... smoke and mirrors for the poker match. We do not want to appear weak or worse, desperate on the eve of the trading deadline. i/expressions/SDG_Bolt.gif

i read the union tribune today and it said bobby has been to a couple of charger practices and severel other teams are looking to pick him up

marrty said that if caldwell is out for a period of time, the chargers will be looking to trade for a wideout, or pick one up in FA

i say you'll see Bobby Shaw in a Chargers uniform on sunday
