Yeah, I figured there'd be a few new ones because of Rivers. What's funny is that he was my favorite college player, coincidently wears my favorite number, and just happened to get drafted by my favorite team. Pretty cool stuff. I was loving it on draft day.

Trumpet_Man here from the Sign On San Diego forum. I am glad they have regional rooms like this for fans to hammer down on their favorite player / team. The UT forum can get unruly sometimes for new fans with thin skin. WolfPackers are cool in my book and always welcome at our tailgaters in Section F-2 of the parking lot. We are camped right next to the players parking lot so you can get autograph opportunities and snap shots - and killer tailgating times. i/expressions/SDG_Bolt.gif Go Chargers !!

I can't wait for basketball season (not that I'll probably be able to get tickets.. they camp out overnight to get them here!). And yeah, the ACC is a ridiculously talented conference these days, probably now the best football conference as well as the best basketball conference (as usual), and thats without bc joining the mix yet.

Welcome to NC. Even UNC fans respected Rivers. I'm a life long NCSU fan but I have many UNC fan friends, D. Durant is a very good QB and I like UNC's coach - hope it works out well for them this year (of course not too well!). This year the ACC is going to be wild! Hope you are a basketball fan because there is nothing like ACC basketball.

As someone who watched Philip Rivers play his entire college career I have to tell you, don't let the shaky start fool you. PR is magic on a football field! Give him a few weeks to get his feet under him and you will be mesmerized!

I know I can't be the only "New" Chargers fan from Raleigh!! I still see "17" jerseys all over town.

At PlayMakers? I've never been there but my sister says it's great. All my "football" friends are out of town this weekend, still trying to find someone to go. Will probably show up late. Wear a nametag and I'll find you. We need to start a Chargers Group to get a bunch of people together to watch the games.

Sorry Riverhead...didn't get there. Just got in from the beach and all my sorry friends are busy! If I had ever been there before, I'd consider going by myself but...

Riverhead, did you make it to Playmakers? How was it? Found another bar showing the games and found an old friend that was willing to be bribed with dinner. The Tap Room at Graystone Village has 5 flat screens across that back of the bar, pretty cool place. Only thing that sucked was no sound.

Riversrat,
I did make it out to Playmakers. Lots of screens and very loud as in the crowd and not the game. The Bolts looked really good. What's funny is that after returning home to Clayton I found that the local pub there called McKinley's, carries DirecTV and the Charger games. Right around the corner from me.
I did have a good time though as there was lots of crowd involvement whether it was football applause or watching an excited lady Nascar fan jumped up and down on a chair while watching a race.
I' m sure I'll run into you at one of the future venues.

Too funny but not really my kind of thing, the fan or Nascar (I'm a girl)

If we could get more people to check out this section, it would be fun to get a bunch of NC fans together for one of the later games in the season. Preferably after Rivers starts playing. Take care and check in here every once in a while. I was starting to think this was my own person message board. Was afraid I'd end up carrying on my own conversations!

Dittos on the Nascar....not that there's anything wrong with that. I just never understood why it was classified as a sport. But then again I've never been in a Nascar race. (I have been on a football field though)

I have to admit that I am suprised that there are not more people from NC here also. Guess we're privileged or something. I usually check in on regular basis at least for the daily news. When Phillip starts playing I am sure that it will be easier to round up some folks to meet and watch the game. See you around.

im from Raleigh and I was always searching for a team, my dad was a Skins fan and my brother is a Cowboys fan, i said no thanks to both, and when Means got drafted I finally found a home for me in the NFL. It kinda sucked in the 90s( except for the lone SB year) but Ive been a fan ever since and never looked back.

Okay...just back from the halls of McKinlenys in Clayton and I witnessed an arse whoopin' by the Chargers on those Saints. Drew was Drew 2004. Philip got to hand off a few times near the end.
Was great to see number 17 get in a few snaps.

WOW! Offense kicked. Defense looked nasty as in ... we kicked their butts.

How was the air show?

Weather was great! I took a folding chair and watched the Thunderbirds and visited the jet exhibits. My little boy (age 9) was stoked!

The Thunderbirds are awesomely talented. What a show! Breathtaking.

I was impressed twice today. One at the show and two at the pub watching the Bolts. Looks like there is a little more activity on the NC fan forum. Who knows? We may be getting close to having an actual group come together and watch the games.

At least Philip got in for a few snaps. Was good to see him take the field again.

Glad to see Mr. Rivers come in and get a few snaps, courtesy of Drew's performance. I watched the game long enough to state that Drew is performing excellent. Soft Schedule? Who cares. I saw him hit a receiver on a crossing pattern over a defender's head. You don't just do that in any league with any schedule. Great stuff!

Have I seen Rivers do this throughout his career..of course. Drew is has developed and will continue I think to get even better. Cheer for him. San Diego has some very good QBs. And a great O-Line and a Nah-Nah-Nasty Defense. What a year! One game at a time.

I'm trying to get them (McKinley's) to do that closed caption thing and when they figure out how to operate it well...we're in the money. Fact is, the drafts are good (brew that is), and it is a cozy little "Cheers" where everybody knows your name. But those Carribean Wings! 25 cent wings on Sundays. I live in the Landmark area so the pub is around the corner a piece. I'm thinking of cutting a path through the woods (I mean swamp) so I can walk over. I am there every Sunday. Riversrat, TourPlayer, Luv2fli2 and some others are trying to get a group up somewhere on each Sunday. I will be there week after next to pull for the Bolts and dine on tasty wings.

I'm going to miss the game next week. Have a going away party in Cary that I have to go to from 4-7. Looks like I'm going to have to slip out early and get to a bar to watch the game. Let's try again the following week. (Next year....I WILL have Direct TV - can't stand not having sound!).

Riversrat,

I have not heard from anyone else, thus I will be attending the ritual at McKinley's in Clayton. If you do get a wild hair ,come on out. Enjoy your party and perhaps next week if anyone is in town. If you do make it out to McKinleys, just ask for Tom, the one who orders Miller Lite Draft and the Carribean Wings (always).

Yet, we got some of it here in Raleigh but east of here was much worse. I feel so out of touch with what has been going on for the past couple of weeks. I haven't had much time lately to login and read the posts.

Looks like I will have to be next year that we all get together, unless it is for a playoff game. I'm a bit reluctant to do that because it will be the first game of the season that I will get to see with volume...kind of hard to give that up - but I could probably be persuaded.

Woo woo...Panthers just scored again!

What up Girl,

Doing great. Just finishing the room above the garage. Put in a bar, a bar booth and a small wall mounted HDTV, oh yeah.. and a kegerator built into the bar with a Wolf's Head tap handle. Luv2fli2,

Just finished the first coat of polyurethene on the bar booth and bar. Maybe two more to go. Flooring is halfway there. Heating ducts come in this week. Need some wall panduit to hide the cables from the wall mount TV. Sink and laminate go into the bar hopefully this week. Need to get Co2 cannister filled, order keg, put up pictures, neon sign on the way... two weeks, perhaps a playoff game but definately Superbowl. All Charger fans invited. Let's see, we have tourplayer, riversrat, whitelightning and you.

Anyway, I would love to get together with any Charger fans in the area to watch the KC game. I have sunday ticket at home, but would rather watch with other Charger believers, so if anyone is meeting anywhere for the game, please reply!

Okay,

Here's the deal. I just spoke with Eric, owner/manager of McKinleys. He does have a band coming in to play at 10:00pm. He stated that he would delay them a bit until our game finished. They have plenty of TVs. There are two big screens, one at each end of the restaurant. We can reserve a table in front of the big screen away from the band. I need a head count. I told him about six folks.

Let's do a count. Myself and the wife, Riversrat, Chiro, WhiteLightning and G/F (hey WhiteL...that G/F does stand for GirlFriend right?) i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif LOL Just kidding buddy. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I digress. Would be great if luv2fli2 and husband could make it but we understand that is a bit of a trip. Feel free to suprise us.

Let me know. The game is on ABC at 8:00. The only downer is that their "Wing Special" is on Sundays at .25 cents each. Oh well. TourPlayer, I know you're out there somewhere so join in and anyone else that claims to be a Charger fan. (And Philip Rivers fan also).

McKinley's is located in the Lowes Food Shopping Center in Clayton off of Highway 70 East from Raleigh. Can't miss it. If you come in and feel lost , ask for Tom or look for a table in front of the big screen. First round is on me.

Respectfully,

I'm hoping that the rest of you going to McKinleys are a vocal group. I can't watch the Chargers without making some noise. They aren't going to throw me out for yelling for the Chargers are they?

If it were just me, I'd be there. My wife has to work on Saturday, so the game would be half way through the half if we tried to make it to McKinley's. As it is, we'll get to Champs just in time to see the game start.

Be sure I'll be cheering with you!

See ya there.

A definite possibility! We have a regular party that we usually go to that is thrown by one of the hubby's college roommates. However, This year, a business trip for the roommate on the 7th may "pre-empt" the party. I am waiting on the final word.

Also, we live on a poultry farm and it also depends on if we can get a "sitter" for about 16,000 little ones since we will have new chicks in the house about the same time.. LOL

Go Girl! Still here. Thought I would check in today. Hope you are well. Had a bout of the flu or whatever for the last two weeks so I have been keeping a low profile and reading the jibberish on Brees vs. Rivers....yada, yada, yada. Not worried about Philip, I believe that he will eventually emerge as not only a starter but a guy who may rewrite some record books. Would be nice if it is San Diego, but hey if not, then whatever.

Soon as spring is in we need to have a group get together. Our family is even thinking about a trip to training camp. I would like to have a football or jersey, etc. autographed by Philip for my son.

Take care and stay in touch.

Here's a post for the Wolfpack masses... TOO FUNNY!

Interesting candidate sails in to race
Posted: 03.28.2005
Ben McNeely
With a patch over one eye and his parrot, Flipper, on his shoulder, the Pirate Captain is attempting to make waves in this year's student body election.

The Captain, who prefers the title "The" Pirate Captain and claims to have no given name, wants to deliver campus from the "scurvy dogs" that are in power.

While the Captain and his crew take themselves seriously, other presidential candidates and current Student Body President Tony Caravno say they do not.

The Captain hails from the sea and says his home port is now in Raleigh. His platform -- called the "plank" -- consists of ideas other campaigns are also pushing for, like expanding the "Red Terror Express" bus service to Carter-Finley Stadium and the RBC Center and joining together with the four other colleges in Raleigh to lobby the City Council.

"Tuition bae goin' up every year, so I plan to go to the mayor and do something about it," The Captain said.

He also said the student body needs to petition the UNC Board of Governors for lower tuition and a student vote on the board.

"It's gonna take the energy of the masses," Swabby, one the Captain's "scurvy" crewmembers, said.

He also wants to start a scholarship fund for students that write the best pirate story.

"Aye, we bae havin' soirees to raise money for the scholarship," The Captain said. He added that the best pirate stories would be voted upon by the student body.

Will Langley, current CHASS sophomore senator and student body president candidate, said while it is "great that in student government, everyone has a voice, we have to have a leader that can lead."

"The Pirate Captain would not be running if we had a student senate that works. I think he just shows the way student government has been running this year," Langley said. "It shows the irresponsibility of the current leadership."

Another SBP candidate, Lock Whiteside, said he is "an interesting candidate," but doesn't think The Pirate Captain is serious about winning.

"He would be if he came forth with his name and face, but I just don't think he is that serious about it," Whiteside said. "I don't think the administration would see him as a serious contender for the race, either."

The other SBP candidate and current Student Senate President Will Quick did not return several messages left with him this weekend.

Current Student Body President Tony Caravano also had his reservations.

"If the Pirate Captain is a real person, he needs to run under his real name," Caravano said. ̉He needs to run a serious campaign -- in case he wins -- so he can represent people well. The work is more serious than it is fun."

But The Pirate Captain said he is not worried about the other candidates.

"I understand their point of view and respect their point of view, but I disagree," The Captain said. "They see me as a threat."

Although he hasn't met with Chancellor James Oblinger or any other administrator, he said he would "dress more dapper, I would," when he attended Board of Trustee meetings.

"It a matter of sittin' down with me and seein' I'm for real," the Captain said.

He said he is also not worried about representing the students.

"I want to energize the school, get the new apathetic voters out," The Captain said.

Student Government statutes allow a candidate to run under any name they wish, just as long as they are in "good standing" with the University. All candidates are checked out with the Office of Student Conduct to make sure they are qualified to run.

According to Paul Cousins, director of student conduct, The Pirate Captain is qualified to run. The name "The Pirate Captain" will appear on the ballot on April 4 and 5.

Bonnie Pierson, chair of the elections commission, said all that is nee

Hi sd - welcome back to NC! (in spirit anyway)

We tried to get together last year more than we actually did, but we got together for the playoff game against the Jets and had a great time. Check in here every once and a while, we usually post any meetings we have here. If you decide you want to head up to NC, let us know - we'll arrange something. I know I'm planning on going up to DC for the Redskins game and am trying to round up some folks for that trip - the more the merrier!

The weather was great all except the wind thing did not cooperate. There were whitecaps on the waterway and the boat was not up for it. That was on Friday, and then the next day a cruise ship coming out of the Bahamas was swamped by a 70' wave.

We did get down to Deerfield Beach for lunch and some shark watching. They had the no swimming signs up all over the beach. Anyway, I always enjoy my trips to south Florida.

Hey guys I live in Cary, im not neccesarily a Bolt fan but behind the Chicago Bears I support them. Drew Brees is the freakin man!~

Marshall,

I also have been a follower of the Bears for many years because of Mr. Sayers (The greatest running back/artist they has ever GRACED the gridiron).

Drew Brees is Awesome! ....BUT.... Philip Rivers is da Man!:D

He said that Everybody looked good. As far as specific positions go, I will ask him. My son got his picture made with Tony Baker. He was walking across the parking lot with his parents and the hubby recognized him.

We bought another car today and it's "Duke Blue". His mom told him if it fades it will be Carolina Blue and he said he'd have it painted before he would drive a Carolina Blue car. (Both our other vehicles are red;) ) LOL

Hi Everyone,

Once again, I've been busy and just haven't been able to spend any time here. It will become a priority again once TC starts. I can't wait for Riverhead's TC updates. RH I KNOW I owe you a phone call. Got a new cell phone (new to me anyway) and I haven't moved my phone numbers over yet. So, everytime I think...I've got to call him, I'm either at work without your number(s) or it's too late to call, like now.

Gang,

We got Fall Baseball coming up for the little guy and we should find out this Saturday morning what the schedules are. With good fortune I would like to invite ya'll over to the Mojo to watch the Bolts vs. the Packers on ESPN at 8:00pm. Someone correct me if this is not the correct time.

I know that Clayton is a stretch for some so if anyone has a suggestion as to another place to meet then I'm all ears.

Of course the draft beer at my place is on the house.

I'm still around. Had a VERY bad problem in the office right after the playoff loss last year. Took me several months to come back around and not be worried about if my business was going to survive. We seem to be back in good shape, and barring any major downturns in the economy, I'm looking forward to watching many Charger wins this year.

BTW, Both backup qb's showed some stuff tonite. Especially PR. Not a bad game overall, except for poor Nate.
