Niners and Chargers TRADE Looms...

I have been hearing it all over the radio stations in the BAY area.

The Niners and Chargers are in Serious negotiations and one of two option will possibly be taking place, this is what they are suppose to be sorting out now.

Option # 1) The Niners send their 1st pick overall and Julian Peterson to the Chargers for the Chargers two 1st round picks ( # 12 and # 28 ) and Drew Brees.

Option #2) The Niners send their 1st pick overall to the Chargers for their # 12th pick and Philip Rivers.

They are also stating that the reason the Chargers are wanting to do the trade so badly is because they want BRAYLON EDWARDS from Michigan.

The NFL's first 2005 Draft trade is upon us!!

This has been going around. As a 9er fan I rather have Option one, but I rather not do the trade at all and just pick Braylon Edwards areselfs...

Sorry. Just don't buy it...especially option #2. The Chargers should receive a top 10 pick for Rivers alone. He was basically a top five pick and now has some experience (in theory more value). I could believe a rumor that the Chargers were trading PR for the 49rs #1 but AJ said the Chargers had no plans on trading PR at this time so IMHO only an incredible offer that he can't turn down would make him go back on his word.

The 49r fans should be dreaming about this. Either one of these options would be lopsided in their favor and just don't make sense for the Chargers.

One more thing...on option #1 (which also won't happen)...how about the 49rs #1 and Julian Peterson for Drew Brees and the Chargers #28. Again, it won't happen because DB will start for the Chargers this year, but its more realistic. Chargers can get a strong OLB in the draft at #28.

i live in the bay i dont hear nothing about the niners and the chargers trading....and why would we trade 2 first rounders plus drew brees for one first rounder and julian peterson....option to would be more logical if any....plus it states in some articles that the niners are trying so hard to trade the number 1 pick but nobody wants it...ill find the link...i forgot where i read that

The 49ers are desperate to trade down to address their many needs, but no other team wants this pick. Rodgers is a nice prospect but not a no-brainer No. 1 overall pick. He has terrific arm strength and good accuracy and would be an instant upgrade over Tim Rattay or Ken Dorsey.

hmmm sounds like it was posted by a niner fan. I believe there stands a better chance of Fouts coming out of the announcers booth to take over for teh chargers after we trade Brees, LT and Antonio Gates to the Niners for their 2nd round pick and Arnaz Battle

Rivers would be considered night and day above the other QBs in this draft. He was essentially a #1 last year and would be a no brainer #1 if he was in this QB class.

LOL this thread was clearly started by someone on drugs. Not ONE of those scenarios makes a bit of sense. And none of it fits with A.J.'s philosophy. No one wants a #1 pick in this draft since the talent is just NOT that strong. Tossing away a proven vet or a clear #1 (Rivers) for an injured expensive LB (we have plenty) and Braylon Edwards?!? Put the crack pipe down.

Considering what A.J. has said, the only deal I could see happening is Drew for the first pick AND Peterson. Or some other deal involving players. There is no way the Chargers would give up both of their first rounders for only one. The top pick is just not worth it this year.

if we were to offer PR and our 28th, i can almost say they would bite in it. PR, even though not a proven NFL QB has alot more skillz than the QB's out of this years draft. Plus a 28th pick. Sounds more to me that we aren't getting the best end here.

I would think that they'd take PR straight up for the #1 pick. He's better than any QB in the draft right now, he's already under contract so he won't hold out, and he's got a year in an NFL system under his belt.

They'd need to offer their 1 and their 3 for PR.

Plus, why don't we just hope DJ falls to 12 or pick Merriman at 12, fill our supposed need at LB and then keep our #1 picks and Brees?

SF's #1 for our #1 plus PR? PR is a better prospect than any QB in the draft this year. Why would AJ give up PR (with a years experience) AND our #1 this year so that we could draft 11 spots higher?

There is not a chance we would do this, there is no clear cut 1st pick this year let alone us giving up both of our #1's and Drew Brees also. I just dont see this happening.

I think this is one of the better laughs I've had on these forums. First, Edwards is not worthy of the #1 pick and will be a real pain to sign if selected there. Second, there is no scenario where AJ will give up PR for anything short of a couple of first round picks; say, SF's 1st this year and their 1st next year. That way we would probably be picking 1 0r 2 next year and could line up for one of the quality QB's or OT coming out. Third, does SF have the room under the cap to sign DB to a long term contract, which he will require and/or absorb the huge hit that PR will do to the cap. Fourth...........if this was indeed hacksaw, then you know first hand it is BS.................IMHO

The rumour is Brees plus both first round picks to S.F. for Peterson and the #1 pick. They have been saying it on espn radio in Nor Cal citing sports blogospheres as the source of the leak. I am a Niner fan and ANY QB would be an upgrade for us! I think this is total B.S. as the charger front office cant be that stupid. Peterson is our best player but he tore his achilles early last season and it is not even known if he has fully recovered, so consequently he may not be the same player he has been in the past. As far as PR is concerned, no one can say he is any different then Smith or Rodgers as none of these guys have started a game in the NFL, one year on the bench does not gaurantee anything either way. The Chargers should stay with DB as he is a proven winner, the Niners will be stuck with the #1 pick (They will Pick Rodgers). Peterson has been franchised the last 2 years and already turned down a multi year deal that would have made him the third highest paid LB behind arrington and lewis. SO he will probably split S.F. when they stop franchising him. The other thing included in the trade rumour stipulated that the Niners coach stated that if the supposed trade info were leaked to the media the deal would be off. That alone would indicate the fabrication of the story!
