I hope I am not the only one a mite dismayed at the way big men in this game have such a giant advantage in recent decades. They tried to sort of address this with lane timed violations inside, but it hasn't really worked. I see it often not even being called and the monsters just gobble up the inside real estate, spin and dunk the ball. They need to either widen this lane out 4 or 5 feet and really enforce the rule or raise the hoop up 12 to 18 inches. I used to enjoy the game a lot more when teams had to really work a set play to clear an open shot or find a man cutting inside for a quick pass and layup. I loved watching teams succeed with crisp passing and well planned offense in this manner. That has become a lost art nowadays. Those plays are no longer possible and rarely seen with the monsters clogging up all the inside floorspace. It has turned into a 3 point bomb game from way out or else a inside shoving match to see which side has the bigger monster and can make the most fouls and not get caught by the ref. Perfect example was Illinois in the NCAA title game. The Illni were missing badly on their 3 point bombs and their 2 monsters got into early foul trouble. They were totally dead in the water. There is no inside passing game anymore on most teams....it's all bombs aways and monsters and if one or the other don't show up, it's a complete joke of a game. I know I'm shoveling grundeon against the tide here, but it just felt really good to vent on one of my pet peeves.
