Curious to get your responses, because the Giant Dipper happens to be one of my favorite rollercoasters. I had it at the top of my list for the longest time.

When I was growing up, PB and Mission Bay were a very, very short drive from my house. So we used to spend alot of time down there, fishing, roller skating on the boardwalk, and going to Belmont Park. At one point, there was a fire there, and it stayed closed for awhile. I was so bummed! But I love Belmont Park. Plus now there are alot of happenin little bars and such I can take advantage of when I am there, that I couldn't when I was a kid. From Ocean Beach, all the way to Black's Beach, we used to bike, roller skate or skateboard from one end to the other. What a great way to spend a day. Same with La Jolla Cove. I used to love jumping into the Washing Machine, and the Clam. Talk about puckering up on the way down! Woo Hooo! Snorkeling was awesome in La Jolla Cove too. Always a nice variety of fish to see. The beaches down there are just awesome, and I miss them so much! Once a year visiting is not enough! I hope Belmont Park stays around forever. It's a local landmark, and should stay one.

Cool! I love to hear that kind of support for the park. My favorite watering hole there is Coasters Saloon. The past to CHARGERS homegames that I've been to always ended the same way. Me heading on over to Belmont Park and taking a dozen or so rides on the Giant Dipper, and then heading on over to Coasters for a dozen or so beers. NAH! Just kidding, maybe just 6 beers.

:D wow finding this thread just brought back a flood of memories...
growing up in the late sixties to the the early eighties, i spent almost every day of the summer, between O.B. to just in front of hamils. somtimes P.B. And we went to belmont park alot i loved it as a kid, everything about it. the haunted house. the game where you throw a dime in the dishes. if it stays in the dish, you get to keep it,we used to spit on our dimes, make's em stick better.or that guy who would twist and bend pop bottles and fill em full of colored water and re cap em.we'd surf all day at south M.B. then off to belmont park while my dad had this raging bon fire going on the beach, and we would yell so he could hear us from the very top of that roller coaster, you know the spot with the sign that said"do not stand up,keep hands down. there was this urban legend that a guy had his head knocked off by that sign
one time my brother stuffed his face like a pig, then went on that ride that spins real fast, and you stick to the walls.and ends up puking all over everyone WEEEEHOOOOO that was funny!!!! :p :D

Belmont Park is a pretty cool place. So much to do in good Ol' SD.

I remember this one Pirate place somewhere, but I can't think of the name :( It's kind of like a Chuck E Cheese.

I'm just glad that we dont have a dry beach. A trip to the beach without a cold cerveza is a sin!

I think those pictures were taken in 1974, thats when I went active duty in the Air Force, but Yes I remember Shakey's Pizza, they had one in Clairemont.

What about Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor (sp), it was down in Fashion Valley
