I read in another thread that you are currently at Fort Irwin, CA (http://www.irwin.army.mil/channels) - there for training? What outfit are you with?

Sounds like a pretty cool duty assignment to me there nvcharger! Biggest difference between your "normal" steed and your current one is that a piece of armor won't argue with ya like that horse will! ;)
I went to the very first Chargers game up in the LA Coliseum with my Dad, (now deceased), and have been a fan of this team ever since. All those years, part of which were 24 spent in the Navy, have led me to many "strange and far-away places" - and I can honestly say I've been a Charger fan from the South China Sea to the Mediteranian Sea and yeah - over in the Indian Ocean and all points in between. WestPac, EastPac, Shellback - WestLant, EastLant - shoot I got the opportunity to see them all as over 18 years of that 24 were spent on sea duty - and through them all I was a Charger fan.
It was a lot tougher to follow our team back then, (I retired in '87 as the MCPOC of a command here in San Diego), as we didn't have access to sports news like what is available today. Man what I wouldn't have given for the Internet back in '68 for a break and some sports news during the Tet offensive... We had little opportunity to "escape" back into the "real world" back then and I'm sure glad that today's soldiers and sailors have that opportunity... Having "been there" I can appreciate how important that kind of thing would be to the young men and women serving our country today.
I don't "envy" them - I'm just proud that it is there for them.
Aside from my "normal" shipboard duties, I did my part for the crew by serving as the volunteer "Chief MARS Operator" (Military Affiliate Radio System) on my last four sea commands - using voice radio to help crew members contact their families and friends back home via phone patches and such (and oh by the way get the score on that last Chargers/Raiders game! ;) )... but as important as it was back then - it was NOTHING compared to what is available today.
Again - welcome aboard there Mate. As a member of our Armed Forces you have my deepest respect and admiration.

We have a member currently in Iraq/Kuwait - he goes by Chargerlipz. He occasionally posts from over there. Before he shipped over there he was a frequent poster and a really funny guy.
This forum is full of ex-servicemen. I was a Marine myself - early to mid fifties. I'd venture to say we have vets in here from every damn war over the last 60 years.
I attended the very first game in San Diego in 1961 and had season tickets until I was transferred to No. Ca. in the early eighties. I don't live in San Diego anymore, I'm retired and living in Oregon now but I still love the Bolts.

The saying is "once a Marine, always a Marine" and I've learned there is a lot of truth to that. I was honorably discharged in 1956 but an awful lot of what I learned back then (including a certain attitude) has stuck with me all these years.

Semper Fi right back to you!
Here's a strange one - I mentioned earlier in here that Chargerlipz is over in Iraq. He's another guy that got out of the Corps and later joined a National Guard unit in Hawaii. (I assume for some extra income). Shortly after he joined them the outfit was activated. He said the same thing, "it ain't the Corps".

Hate to let you all in on a little secret....The Modern Marine Corps isn't what it was. I was a Basic training DI for the Army about 7 years ago, and see the "Modern" Marine Corps is trained to the same standard now as we were training them then. BTW: I live and work in and around Parris Island, so I see it first hand.
I will agree, the Marines of Old were different. Welcome to the PC world!

I'm in the Marines, deployed to Iraq. I was stationed in Camp Pendleton for about 5 years. During that time I got to go to a lot of Chargers games, thats how I became a fan. I never really had a team before that. I also did a year in Okinawa. I have been with HQ Bn 1st MarDiv, HQ Btry 11th Marines, 7th Comm Bn, & 8th Comm Bn. I have been in for about 8 years now. I am looking forward to re-deploying back home to the states. Unfortunately, I am stationed out of Carolina now. I love the Chargers and will stick with them until the end.

Not to be the barer of bad news but I was in Adak, Alaska for a year on the ship and in Greece for a year. The only time AFN shows a Chargers game is if their in first place or the game has playoff implications. The whole time I was in Greece 2002-2003 I only seen one Chargers game vs New York Jets. That was IT. AFN is bad about covering Chargers games.

I was stationed in Spain back in 1995. When the Bolt's were in the Super Bowl. That was televised live at our base's sports bar. Being live, the game was on at 1:00 a.m. We all took afternoon naps so we could stay up all night to watch the game. And the Navy gave us "Super Bowl Monday" off. Very disappointing to watch the Chargers lose, but at least I won prizes at the sports bar.

15 years and counting down to retirement, lol. I'm currently stationed in Lakenheath, England with the 48th Fighter Wing United States Air Force. Been a Chargers fan since I moved to California from the Philippines in 1981. I didn't know much about football then. My uncle who was in the Navy back then is a Chargers fan himself. Whenever he watched I would watch, too. This may sound really funny to some, but the first thing I liked about the Chargers back then was their uniforms, lol. Of course compared to today, they are so bland, lol. But as the saying goes, "The rest is history." Then I played Pop Warner for the Mira Mesa/Scripps Ranch league. Yes, we were the Chargers as well.

I'd like to give a shout out to all those in uniform who serve this great nation. Thank you for your effort and sacrafice.
Funny story from my own military days (USAF 86-90): On Barksdale AFB in Louisiana, there was a detachment of Navy Seabees who were situated in some trailers in a secluded spot waaaaaay apart from the main body of the base. To this day, I'm not sure why they were there, since there were plenty of USAF civil engineers ("Prime Beef") on the base as well.
There was a huge recreational area on the east side of the base, and to get to it you eventually had to drive by those USN trailers.
A visiting General (I think it was a 3-Star/Lt. Gen) decided it would be fun to take his family out to the east side recreational area. As they drove out there, he and his family were treated to the sight of drunken naked sailors, who had managed to climb their "Seabee" (it's this big statue-type thing -- a pissed-off looking bee holding tools and a machine gun it its various hands) and were "riding" it. If memory serves, I think they were actually holding bottles of booze and "saluting" vehicles that passed their area. Friggin lunatics.
I never did hear if there was any disciplinary action taken.

Hey everyone, I was born and raised in SD as a die hard chargers fan. I am currently deployed in afghanistan and I still have not missed a charger game broadcast. Internet here is extremely slow so my only shot is to listen to stream w/ NFL Field Pass.
I will be taking R&R mid December and Im hoping to desperately catch the last home game. As you can see from my avatar picture...im definitely representing my chargers here in the mountains of Afghanistan.
Is there a customer service POC at qualcom that I can e-mail. I would like to give a shoutout to my BN at the redskins game. Do they support the military? Maybe they can hook up a soldier on leave with a couple nosebleed seats.

Active duty Air Force here too! Born n raised in San Diego, but currently stationed in Atlanta, GA as a recruiter...Commad Post is my primary AFSC (job). Been in the AF for going on 10 yrs now. Getting promoted to E-6 in April..way stoked!
Go Falcons right? NOT.lol Been a die hard Charger fan since I was a kid. Seemed like just yesterday, we were in the AFC Championship game w/ the Steelers and he denied then on the goal line to score for the game winner.lol Proudly fly the Charger flag in my garage for everyone to see around here. Car/Truck has bolt stickers, and Charger plates to rep it out here in the south.
