View Full Version : What to do with Sean Burroughs

I like Sean Burroughs. I saw him play in Portland and was impressed with what I saw, but it's be a couple of years and I just don't know if he's the cornerstone 3rd baseman the team thought he would be, and he has nagging injuries more frequently then I would like to see. He plays nice defense, and puts up a decent BA. but the RBIs and the power are almost nowhere to be found as far as 3rd is concerned. Sounds like Blum is going to challenge to take over the starting roll, but I don't see him terrorizing pitchers either. Sean seems like a nice guy but he doesn't produce the kind of offense that is expected from his position.

Alright so what are the solutions? I know most people with think I'm going out on a limb here, but why not go after Adrian Beltre? Granted he isn't playing like he did last year, but part of that has to be that he hasn't faced the majority of the pitchers he's facing, and the Mariners are not that great a team. He signed a hefty contract, but we can afford it, and we all know he has the ability to put up great numbers at the hot corner.

No idea what they would want us to give up in return for Beltre, but Im really not expecting this to come to fruitiion either. Although I'll be the last to complain if it did happen :D

Beltre has a huge deal, which might restrain us from signing key players. Maybe an off-season deal if no solid 3rd basemen are available in free agency? Burroughs plays great D, but he has below average hitting skills. Maybe move him to another position...

All Burroughs needs to do is stay healthy and increase his on base percentage. Trading for Beltre would be pointless and Seattle would want a lot in return. Also if we did want him bad enough we could have signed him in free agency. Blum is doing a fine job filling in and Nady could quite possibly be the 3rd baseman of the future.

Very true. Blum can be the man.

Trade Burroughs and Nevin for Crawford or Helton. Thats what i think. then let Klesko play 1st Nady LF Giles RF

Not sure about Crawford's numbers this year but stay away from Helton. His numbers have dropped off the face of the earth this season... which is hard to say considering his home field is Coors.

Blum is doing decently enough, and is kinda swinging the bat better than Burroughs at the moment anyway. I also like Fick. He's been a pretty solid contributer thus far, and in my opinion, is a superior batter than Nady is.

Tampa can't afford Nevin yet alone trade their franchise player. Helton will never leave the Rockies because he is their franchise player. Moving Klesko to 1st would be good but the question is should we trade for an outfielder or pitcher.

GET RID OF KLESCKO and trade burroughs for another prospect. Or something. He hasn't done it here. And I like the guy!
