No official word yet, other than a warning. It "might" happen. Nobody has live coverage on TV.

ya since it was off the coast of northern california sd should be fine, if it was further south then there might be a problem.

ya but like compubolt said its just an autowarning thing that goes out since there was an earthquake off the coast. if youre worried about it then i would definately move to higher ground, its better to not risk anything. but you do have time, the earthquake was located 300 miles northwest of san francisco

...THE TSUNAMI WARNING AND WATCH STATUS IS CANCELED FOR
CALIFORNIA - OREGON - WASHINGTON - BRITISH COLUMBIA - AND
ALASKA...
You may all return to your low-lying areas.
I'm more worried about an earthquake than I am a Tsunami.
If you look at this data, you'll see that there are a lot of big earthquakes hitting this side of the pacific rim.
http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/
7.0 quake off of Northern Californian coast -- tonight
6.8 quake off of the Aleutian Islands in Alaska -- yesterday
7.8 quake in Chile -- two days ago
That 5.2 quake in Anza might have let off some pressure, but it makes you wonder...
Regarding the tsunami, I think San Diego and LA are pretty much protected because we wrap under northern california. The tsunami generated by the quake would have to wrap back around to hit us hard. Don't quote me though, I'm far from being an expert...

ya there has been a lot of activity lately. i took a geology class last semester and my professor was saying how most likely there will be a tsunami that will hit the coast of california sometime in the near future (that being anytime in the next like 100+ years). i agree with you about an earthquake off the coast of northern california, it would bend around the coast which would weaken it by the time that it got down here. he was also saying that most likely, a devastating tsunami would come from a landslide that occured from a smaller earthquake that was able to shake alot of the sediment down sea cliffs. (sorry for the science lesson)

Wow...it's kind of scary that I remember in science around 3 months ago, we watched a movie that was kind of old (made in 1999ish) that said that there should be a series of quakes ranging from a 5.0-7.5 on the Richter scale sometime inbetween 2004-early 2006. They said that there are tectonic plates about to collide in the Pacific Rim(from Indonesia-West Coast N. America). I never thought much of it, but that was a pretty acurrate guess. Science really is amazing! :D
