When Drew went down with the shoulder, I could immediately relate. This season, I was also playing football at school. At our last game, I made a dive at the quarterback and landed awkwardly.
I went from an airborne dive to landing with all my weight on my right forearm. This transferred all the force onto my right shoulder, and extended the joint past its norm so that my arm bend too far up over my head.
For the first week, I could barely move my arm and put on a t-shirt. I iced it for a few days. After that I saw a physician who gave me a few simple exercises and advice, but no x-rays or anything. Also, the joint was cracking occationally with movement. That still happens occationally, but not as much.
Its been about two months now. My arm is better, I have a full range of motion, the cracking is very occational, but I still wake up to soreness everyday and don't think I could throw a football right now. Most of the soreness feels like it is on the outside muscle of my shoulder, just below the bone.
My questions for the professionals are...does this period of recovery sound normal? What about the cracking? When should I start doing any type of weight training with my arm? Am I, at this point, doing more harm or good being easy on my shoulder? I really hope to recover so I get get back to making plays of my own. Unfortunately my medical isn't quite that of the pros.
Hopefully that is somewhat specific enough. Hey Drew, hope you feel better buddy. You are a true Charger.
