One thing I've noticed is that the Boltz acquired former SD State LB and brother to standout DE Kabeer Gbaja Biamila from the Green Bay Packers. What's interesting about Akbar is that he is listed at 6'-5" and 260 lbs which is comparable to Foley (6'-4", 265 lbs) and Merriman (6'-4", 272 lbs). If he makes the roster what postion do you think he'll play? OLB, ILB or even DE? And do you think this move indicates that Randall Godfrey will retire?

I think this move indicates that the Chargers are trying to cover as many bases as they can. It is never a mistake to sign some one in the off season for little money and see what shakes out in training camp.

I was just thinking that as I watched Mincey in the Hula Bowl. He is built the same as AGB and I would almost use either Mincey or AGB as a Randall Godfrey type ILB even though they both would appear to be better suited to being OLBs at first glance.
I have no idea where AGB will eventually end up, but I do know that Shaun Phillips is a great pass rusher and worthy of starting at that position (OLB) if not for Merriman and Foley already being on the roster. I dont know enough about AGB's coverage to feel comfortable saying for sure that I would put him at ILB...but that is where I am leaning.

i think if he shoes enough potential and the coaches like him he will earn a roster spot and leber will not be re-signed

I dont think it means a thing as far as Godfrey is concerned because Akbar wont be playing ILB. I doubt he even makes the team if he has to learn a new possition. We are DEEP at OLB.
I think Leber is gone whether Akbar is here or not.

I think Leber is gonna be with another team as well. With the possibility of Godfrey retiring and Leber leaving (two of our better run stopping LB's) I think that AGB, with his size and bulk, will make the team and be in on run packages.

Why did we sign a ex raider!???? i wonder how much $$ we lost in this guy! trust me he will be cut by end of preseason! he never produce in the nfl, college yes! but NFL nope!
AGD was a good DE at SDSU. He is about the same size as his brother but was more athletic. When the Raiders moved to the 3-4 the got him to fill the OLB as a pass rusher. The Raiders never played good in the 3-4 and he is small to be playing DE in the NFL. I dont think he got a good shot trying to learn a new scheme when they did not have the players to play that scheme. If he gets a little time to adjust I think he can be a good backup at OLB. I dont think he would be moved inside he is more of a pass rusher. I think he is a good pick up and I am sure he is making league min.

he'll be stuck on our practice squad come week 1! he'll be sign to active roster if someone goes down and fill in!

i think it is an nfl europe guy n they hope he will bring good depth and special teams help for kickoff coverage n punt coverage... thats what i think it is... i dont think it is as big as some make it to be.

Training Camp is gunna be good just like last season i'm gunna try to go every other day possible everyday but u know work gets in the way, but that's so over rated now a days...................I mean work who does that now! haha just jokin!

speaking of Philips what is going to happen to Shaun. i think him and Shawne on the outside is AWESOME just let the dogs loose...you double down on one side the other is free unless u keep a TE in on both sides and how many teams do that now a days...LET SHAUN PHILIPS START!!!!! bench FOLEY or atleast let them swap out every other series...SOMETHING this boy is NICEEEEEEEEEE

Leber's gone. He wants to start someplace and he isnt going to do that here.

You're probably right. I think it will be very hard to keep this guy when he knows he'll be a starter somewhere else. :( He was good too.

Godfrey's MLB Leber OLB you might think the position is universal but it has it's differnces! he won't move there i see us putting a f/a in there or a rookie, Matt Whil. might go into that position they had him playing it a couple times, Or they could have foley slide over and have shaun p. in foley's old place, cuz foley played a lil bit be4 he came to sd with his previous team

Leber can compete for the ILB spot. Yes, OLB and ILB are different positions but Leber isnt a rookie. He knows how to play the game.

We just resign Clinton Hart for 3yrs and that means goodbye jerry wilson, and soon Kie! Leber will need a new contract and we can save money lettin him go! Trust me i love Leber plays! Akbar Gbaja-Biamila is a large, strong, aggressive player. He could line up as either an inside LB to help out Donnie, or he could be lined up at DE along with Jamal and Luis (castillo). He could be an effective pash rusher / run stopper even if he hardly plays.

We are still pretty set at linebacker so i would put him at defensive end. We have good ends too, but they are all really interior lineman (thats why we have a wicked run D). He could be brought in on passing situations to provide a little more pressure.

I haven't seen Marques Harris play but I really don't think that he is a suitable replacement in the middle. He seems undersized and is destined to be a career special teams player and might get an occasional start here and there. Akbar Gbaja-Biamila is too slow to play outside linebacker, but might be able to play DE. I don't think that he's a replacement either just providing depth and a special teams player.

What are you talking about Leber AND Foley gone. Leber yes, but Foley no way you have to crazy to think that the chargers would get rid of both of them.

First of all we wont lose those guys and 2nd.....Akbar isnt good enough to start for us. IF we lost Both those guys, im sure we would draft another LB.
Cooper would cost a team a first round pick to sign him and Wilhelm would cost a 4th round pick to sign him.
