To me he is the most valuable defensive player in the entire NFL
If the Chargers had him it would be crazy crazy crazy
I hated his hair and his guts even more last Oct 10 but honestly he is the best of the best
I could google it, but does anyone have any info on him?
What school did he go to? How good was he in college? Where was he selected in the draft?
Samoan?
Go Bolts/06
He went to USC & played with Carson Palmer!

I definately agree, but there are haters on this board that will disagree.
Remember the week of the Steeler game when they said that they would cover Gates with Troy, and everyone kept on saying how one dimensional Troy was ,and how AG was going to break free.
Well look what happened.
Troy is an excellent Saftey, he can drop bac kinto coverage, but also move into the box.

But instead we got stuck with Sammy Davis...
I agree, I'd rate Palomalu above Reed

I'm no hater, but just value my stuff more than I value a safety ;).

Its just amazing how that guy is always around the ball, it doesnt matter what side it was thrown/ran to he is always near the ball. He makes a ton of tackles, and a ton of interceptions, and than breaksup a ton of plays. He is crazy good.

I don't know if I'd go that far, but I'd give up a lot to have either ILB playing in this game - Tatupu (2nd round rookie pick from USC) or Morgan (and wouldn't mind those who played in the earlier game).
What a difference when you have a physical ILB who flies around the field, makes plays deep in the passing games and stuffs the runner for a loss on 3rd and 1. It's as big of a need as safety on the Chargers defense.
Damn, what am I thinking? The number of tackles is all that matters. ;)

Good one! Cuz only those that make tackles while being dragged for 3 yards should go to the Pro Bowl. Honestly tho, we need Offensive tackles more.

Exactly, we need a much faster guy or two on the inside that can cover. Donnie is just too slow.
And yes. we need some good 0-tackles as well.

Why is it always the left one?

He kind of reminds me of a smaller Junior Seau the way he is always around the ball and plays like he's the tasmanian devil.

Yep. Ive never complained about Wilhelm or Cooper as backups at ILB. Yet... there is much to be desired at O-Tackle.

From watching these games today. It really is about the front d-7. You've got to get a pass rush and get pressure. It makes the d-backs job so much easier. And its all about speed. Both the seahawks and pittsburghs linebackers are fast. Plus both teams are able to rotate d-lineman to keep the down lineman fresher.

Agreed. However, we have much greater needs at Oline and Safety then we do at ILB, and possibly WR in 07' then we do at ILB. Merriman, Foley, Godfrey and Edwards are more then enough.
However, I agree, in 07' ILB postion should be looked at.

In a year where the Bolts fell to the teams with the premier safeties, I think the point has been proven that the Bolts could really use a guy like Polamalu or Bob Sanders. The speed and intensity that they play with makes them a threat for the stuffed run, the hard hit, the INT, or the broken up play.
The Chargers could use a guy like Troy in blitzing situations (John Lynch style) or let him roam in the secondary. Either way.....he is always that close to making a big play or 3!
I love Kiel and Jue as much as the next guy, but Polamalu would get my vote any day.

I'll be fair, Donnie had a knee injury that slowed him this year. Usually he was good for at least a few INT's a year but this year we didn't get much of any of that. I'm not gonna say Donnie is a poor player but he needs to be more of a play maker than he was this year, let's hope he gets healthy and back to form.

We had one, his name is Rodney Harrison.
He was a huge factor in the Pats vs. Steelers Championship game last year and in the Super Bowl (still can't believe he didn't win SB MVP)

Glad to see Polamalu getting more recognition from this board. i was starting to get tired of people bashing him for stupid reasons.

To all of you willing to part with such a valued body part, I applud you. As for me, I still have a need for the entire package. Gots to keep the little lady happy. Now, if we start talking about gitting a good O line coach I may be wiiling to donat a finger or two (I've got 9 1/2 anyway, lost part of middle finger to tablesaw a few years ago). I was sorry to see Carl get axed but wrong guy for such a youg O line.

I have heard some say that JB had made the draft board for 2003--but I still believe it was AJ that didn't like polamalu for some reason or another and traded down to 30 for the extra 2nd rounder
I also heard that Pitts offered to swap the 15 pick for the 16 so they could draft polamalu, and SD refused--I am not sure what the compensation would have been

Why didn't all those other teams pick polamalu, Why didn't other teams pick merriman. Some times you just luck out.
All that really matters is the chargers and A.j. luck out big time again this year in the draft.

I remember that draft vividly! I'm a big Sc fan and I kept up with Troy throughout college. I thought for sure we had him but we traded down for more picks. I was upset at the time. I was some what relieved though seeing him play in his rookie year. He got used and ran over everytime he was on the field. But I guess that just made his tougher and smarter because the guy shook it off and became a straight up beast.

Troy had concussion problems in college and their were some concerns about his durability, that was one reason some teams passed on him.

Troy is awesome! On NFL access, Rod Woodson commented on how special a player Troy is. Rod Woodson who played for the Steelers, stated he wasn't too familiar with thier defensive scheme simply because they tailor the defense to fit Troys outstanding althetic ability and instinct.
The guy is an impact player and as someone mentioned his play reminds me of Junior Seau. He plays with great passion and he thrives on competition i.e. covering Antonio Gates 1-1. I despised Troy during the Steeler-Charger slugfest but that was just him stepping up to the challenge against the best tight end in football. He also is a spiritual man who prays after ever down...that may be his secret:).
Troy and Latupu will be getting plenty of well deserved pub over the next two weeks. They will represent the polynesian contingent well in Super Bowl XL.

I remember posting about troy after the chargers played them and a percentage of you thought i was crazy. I bet that percentage would take this guy in a heartbeat now. that tackle he made after he got hit falling backwards was one of the best efforts i have ever seen. this guy is tough, fast, and has attitude. thats what we need on our defense!!! For all you who still think im crazy, goodluck with your futures!!

That was a GREAT play. When I saw that thing set up I thought it was an easy 20 yards. Not only did Polamalu recognize the play, but he beat three blockers and made the tackle short of the 1st. It was an amazing display.

I just found out yesterday that the whole Steelers defense is centered around him!!!
He probably has the toughest position in that great defense to have to gameplan for 4 different postions: the QB, the RB, the TE and the WR!!! He's technically a pass rusher, a run stopper and a cover guy if you ask me.
You go my Pacific Islander Bruddah!

I can think of five exciting offensive players off of the top of my head, but I can't name that many on defense. It's rare to see a player who is electrifying on the defensive side, but Polomalu is one of them.
