The Chargers have made attempts to re-sign another one of their free agents in recent weeks but the price may be too high. In anticipation of that player leaving they are looking towards the NFL Draft at the same position.

Cornerback Jamar Fletcher (http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=102&p=8&c=1&nid=1776453) was a high priority for the Chargers entering the off-season.
The 5-foot-10 former first round pick stepped up his game in 2005 after beginning the year in the doghouse. He was made inactive weeks two and three of the season after having a stellar training camp.
It wasn’t until he notched a start against Oakland on October 16 that Fletcher garnered the playing time dictated by his strong camp. And that was because Drayton Florence (http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=102&p=8&c=1&nid=1776456) and Sammy Davis (http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=102&p=8&c=1&nid=1716371) both were out with injury. When Florence returned, Fletcher retained the nickel role in the defense ahead of Davis on the depth chart.
What is the holdup? Cash – money – bling. The Chargers are not offering enough and Fletcher believes he can make more on the market.
He has a home in South Florida and still calls South Beach home. That could pave the way for a return to the east coast as the Chargers move on without his services.
The ideal situation for the Bolts would be in the first round of the draft. They are enamored with two of the hybrid players that will go in the first round – and we are not talking about 4-3 ends who would convert to linebacker. The Chargers are seeking cornerbacks that double as safeties or vice versa.
They would love to go back to University of Texas (http://texas.scout.com/) to grab Michael Huff (http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=102&p=8&c=1&nid=1774683), the top player in their sights. Huff, though, is currently out of their range unless they want to trade up in the draft – something that A.J. Smith (http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=102&p=8&c=1&nid=1776529) will consider if the match is right in April.
“I've stayed focused, stayed out of trouble and did what I had to do,” Huff said. And now he is reaping the benefits of his solid play.
The other player that fits the bill is widely popular on the forums – Ko Simpson (http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=102&p=8&c=1&nid=2110804) out of South Carolina (http://southcarolina.scout.com/). Simpson, a sophomore named to the third-team AP All-America list last month, led South Carolina with 103 tackles this season and had one interception.
Simpson figures to be around at slot 19 and could be a cog to a defense that still ranked in the lower half of the league in pass defense despite placing fifth with 46 sacks.
The secondary remains a position that needs an upgrade or, more importantly, a playmaker. Only one defensive back netted more than one interception this past year, Bhawoh Jue (http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=102&p=8&c=1&nid=1797172) with his three. Moving ahead without Fletcher, there may be no other option than to look at the draft.

This sucks bcause he was doing pretty good, m'kay. what do u guys think

If this is the case, then perhaps the rumors about Sam Madison are true. I think that would upgrade our secondary alot if we were to sign him. Have Florence be the nickel back, draft ko simpson in rd one. OT rd 2. would make for a good offseason if we could sign Bentley and a veteran OT like Backus.

I think until combines draft speculation is just that! I am hoping we get A great player in FA on the Line.... that said.. we can use a number of the FA available...
ot-
g-
c-
WR- all could be upgraded! wr being the least!

S-CB-ILB are solid needs... DT luxury...
so that said...
we shall see what aj does.. I am hoping for Tackle... and bentley and then a good draft.
I would then get... deuce latui or max jean in 2nd round...
huff ko or greenway in first... and best player we need help in 3rd-5 6-7 take talent... period!

The rumors about Sam Madison are basically that he doesn't want to take a paycut to help out the Fish and that our Front Office has shown some interest. Personally I'd take him... maybe trade Sammy Davis for him... although I would bet the Fish would want Flo.

We'll i say re-sign Fletcher and give him a shot to compete for a starting CB with Florence.

It's more a question of, if we resign him, and he doesn't outperform Flo, then we've wasted the cap money paying a starting CB salary to a nickelback.

The smart move is to bring Fletcher back, give him more playing time and let him prove himself.

Thats, why we sit down and see if he has a legit chance of starting.

Fletcher has shown some good coverage skills and he could make a good backup to Flo or Q, but not a starter. As for Madison, if the Fish will take Davis, great! If not, then throw in Keil...

I would trade Davis and Kiel for Sam Madison in an instant.

We seem to trade with the Fins an awful lot.

Good. Jamar played sub-par at best this season, definately room to improve. No need to waste money on a low-quality player.

Hell, put Leander Jordan in there while you're at it.

Ikeman83 I believe Davis and Jordan for that matter are both free agents. However I would trade Kiel and something, maybe a 2nd round draft pick for Sam Madison.

Davis is not a free agent and a 2nd rd pick is way high for a player who is on the decline of his career. he should be worth a 4th rd pk and plus, where will we put him? the only place i would put him is free safety but I like jue better for that position. our starting corners are good and young and I want jammer and D Flo to keep starting cuz thats the only way they will improve.

I say let him walk. His priority is his pocket. We want the SB priority. If he was smart he'd play for a one year (insentive laden) and get his SB ring. Sure nothing is a for sure thing but right now there is only a few places with SB potential where he can start full time. His play is good not great. Nickle primarily. His loss doesn't kill us. It may hurt a little but with a good FA sign or draft pick up it won't matter.

The Atlanta Falcons were interested in Fletcher last season. The Falcons tried to get Jamar Fletcher and the Bolts said no. The Falcons wanted Jamar Fletcher to be a starting CB. Immediately after Atlanta's request the Chargers put him on the inactive list. Whats up with that?

There is no doubt that Fletcher is capable of being the number 1 CB. His numbers suggest that if he were allowed more playing time, he would have the best stats on the team. I hope people cease messing with Fletchers career and let him practice his craft. Fletcher remains poised and ready.
