Im always glad to see the Olympics come around. It provides a nice 2 weeks of rooting for sports that I didnt even know existed haha. I think the World deserves a huge competition and deserves to have some recognition. Long live the games!!
Maybe someday it could come to San Diego. I know its been in LA, but San Diego would be awesome. (hint: get a new stadium.)
By the way when the 1984 olympics came to LA they almost did the Kayaking in Bakersfield, we have a very awesome river running through town. The Olympic team does their training here, mostly.
The Winter Olympics make me yawn. The Canada-US Hockey game should be okay, but curling is seriously pathetic. Same goes for "luge."
Tim Cowlishaw put it best:
"Some of these sports were clearly invented on a whim. Hey lets slide down a hill real fast and see who wins. We'll call it skeleton."

Ya', those winter sports are nothing like the excitement and pure athletes competing in BB gun (air pistol), ping pong, bow & arrow and horse jumping. With all the shooting events in the summer Olympics, why not have team Laser Tag. And if curling is an Olympic sport, we should also have bowling too!

At least the summer games have Basketball, soccer, track, weight lifting, and so on...
Those are "actual" sports. What is biathalon? lol, when I think of sking, of course I think of shooting! WHOWHATT?!?
p.s. BCBOLTFAN: has anyone complimented your jokes under your sig? I always get a kick out of them. You had one way back: "We baby-proofed our house, but they keep getting in." That was awesome. :D

I will admit this. I wake up pretty early (430ish) to start my day. I ended up flipping the channels one morning and came across USA (channel), and low and behold US Womens Curling. I have to say, that I would never play it, or even follow it, but I couldn't help but watch! It was actually kind of cool, (for the offseason).

Thanks, no... I love Yogi-isms and "wise words" type stuff.
I enjoy both the summer and winter Olympics as with most sports. Sports is reality TV! Just the politics, protests and performance enhancers are otta hand.
I get a kick out of some writers and people who can't figure out curling as an Olympic sport, but don't say anything about speed walking marathons- 20 and 50 K for men and 20 K for women. Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all a curling fan. Not that theres anything wrong with it.
Every once in a while, after a few drinks- usually tequila based- I do a little comedy routine on speed walking as an Olympic sport and why not "hippidy- hop" races. You could have the 100 meter hippidy-hop sprint, the 4 X 400 hippidy-hop relay and the ultra technical 100 meter hippidy-hop hurdles. Of course you would have the hippidy-hop marathons as well.
The margaritas help with the demos!

Or some invented to produce more cash. Americans travel. Snowboarding is simply put: lame. Skate rats on ice. Of course they are going to pretty much take most the medals is nthis event. sort of like softball in the summer games (who else plays softball in the world??? Nobody!)
But the coin these silly events generate is probably sizable. all those little biszkit kids drag theior parents and family over seas, they buy hotel rooms, meals , etc.. good ffor the local economy. some brat gets a medal and feels good about himself for a year or so, happy days , its a win win situation... makes for some damn boring TV though.
Short track is pretty amusing. Hockey is cool. so is the X country skiing with shooting (of course we dont get to see that, americans never medal in it, so its not shown) Down hill is allright, smae with the super G... Ski Jumping is ok. Guess it makes time pass.. hahahaha
Just waiting to die.... hahahahaha
And skating, which gets shown more and more is getting... er... if possible... more.... er.... ghey...

They show the biathalon (sking with shooting) and I agree. While watching skating, I suddenly feel ashamed of my manhood.

It's on late on NBC. I flip the channels trying to find Conan and instead I come across the skating and get kind of entranced by it, but quickly regain sobreity and turn to something else.

THANK YOU haha its always funny to see someone else that likes to watch curling. I caught it in the locker room at the gym, and this guy walks in, sees the tv, looks at me and says "..the tytest sport ever" he was serious too cuz he kept watching lol. seriously though, doubters should really give curling a chance, i look at it as "pool(biliards) on ice" I really only get to watch it whenever the olympics are on so i guess thats why i enjoy it so much.
ohter than curling my favorites are short track, snowboard halfpipe and cross, skiing, moguls, bobseld, and hockey. im glad theres a olympic thread now, since all i watch now is the winter games.
also, i heard that san diego was trying to get the summer games pretty soon. I also heard that they were thinking of a joint thing w/ TJ.

I dont like snowboarding ......AT ALL>...... butthen I saw the women's snowboard cross tonight. the canadian gals are bloody suicidal.. one was carted off in a bag, anfd the other decided to snack on the fence.... I couldnt believe it. Hats off to them for effort. Im sorry they didnt update on the status of the gal carted off, hope she is ok. Was pretty sweet watching the gal "Leon Lett it" and fail to get the gold.
Ice Dancing.. I almost slashed my wrists.
The best thoug h was the recap of the X country 15 K ski race: 50 yr old costa rican guy ( they dont even know what snow is) and a Kenyan??!?!?!.. thats awesome. Thats what the olympics is all about. Shame so many countries take it all so serious. .....

Just wanted to give a shout-out to my home country, Sweden, for taking the men's hockey gold this morning! Awesome game! I can only imagine the partying that's going on there now. It's hard to describe an event like that - kind of like the Superbowl but the entire country pretty much shuts down for the game and the partying afterwards!
