Was the #4 overall pick in 2002 and is absolutely huge (6-6, 360). He's been a bust at LT and RT, but could be a good addition at Guard.

I thought the Bills played him at guard the last couple of seasons and was just as big of a bust.

Well you said it... he's a BUST.

I know they played him at Guard this season, not sure about anything before that. I remember talking to a Bills fan the week of the Bills game about Williams. He said that he thought Williams was doing a better job at guard.

I want Bentley and an OT.
As such, I'm not interested in Williams.

Oh I'm with you there 100% Joe. Bentley should be our #1 target this offseason. Sell him hard, sell him fast.
Bring LeChuck to San Diego.

remember all the talks in 2002 was how san diego loved this guy as a offensive lineman..they were willing to take him over bryant mckinnie <which i still dont know why they would> because mckinnie was suppose to be soft, and williams a mauler...it looks to be the other way around

I think the chargers set the table for the arrival of bentley by hiring his OL coach---just a hunch

If we can get this guy cheap, I dont see any problem with signing him. A change of scenery will often make a player step up to his potential.

I say if we can sign this guy to a 1-2 year contract very cheap, maybe incentive laden, then why not take a chance, he's got talent and potential, maybe just needed a change of location.

i live in toronto and listen to buffalo sports radio all the time.
they always say williams has a lazy attitude. misses camps, misses meetings. doesn't try, etc.
he does have the size and athleticism. they also always said he was a better run blocker but horrible pass blocker.
maybe a change of scenary would be good.
or maybe he's just lazy.

He really couldn't hurt to bring in and a change of scenery has turned around a lot of players. The key is an incentive-laden contract so he'll have motivation and minimize the risk if he gets injured.

Remember, if the new CBA isn't signed by March 3rd, all incentives count against the cap, so an incentive laden contract counts just as much as giving him the money outright.
I see the Chargers going after a successful OT in free agency in addition to Bentley, not a cheap off the scrap heap bust with a questionable work ethic.

if they can bring him in on the cheap, which most likely someone will get him cheap, why not at least give him a shot, it may count anyway, but an incentive laden contract would make him work for his money.

If it's really really really cheap, then OK. That means tiny incentives, if any.
All I know is I want the Chargers to bring in (1) Bentley, (2) a successful free agent OT who was let go for cap purposes, (3) a first day OT draftee, (4) a free agent safety, (5) a first day safety draftee, and (6) possibly a free agent ILB or CB. And don't forget keeping cap space for Brees if he should not sign by March 3rd.
That's going to burn up the majority of cap space. If there's a small amount to throw his way, the more the merrier. But I definitely don't want the Bolts to cut out one of those big needs to throw out a flyer on a big time bust who has been given every chance to succeed in Buffalo before being shown the door.

THe Chargers dont need any first round bust playing on this this team.. They already have Sammy Davis which I hope they trade or release, and they have Jamar Fletcher, but played pretty good as a nickel but he'll be gone.. No to Mike Williams..

If we could get him at the right price, and if he would agree to go back to defense, he'd make an interesting prospect at Noseguard.

we should definitely look into the guy soon...before anyone else realizes his talent and grabs him before us....the upcoming season relies on and O-line...to protect whichever quarterback starts for us and to get LT his 2000 yards!:21:

That's precisely why the Chargers should focus on signing proven Pro Bowlers and solid pros like Bentley, Runyan, Fabini and the like instead of one of the biggest busts in recent draft history.

Williams would be an interesting pickup, but he is no different than a 40 pound lighter Fonoti, we do not need prospects, we need proven players.

who are you talking about? bentley will not come cheap he has been to 2 pro-bowls as a starter in only four years in the league---I would say he has already stepped up to his potential

williams will not get much more than a minimum one year deal with no bonus so he is worth bringing into the fold just to see if he is someone that will rededicate himself to the game---it has happened before-we don't know all the variables that went into his release-if their is no bonus involved why not bring him in to see what he has

Could You Guys Imagine Having Pro Bowlers On Our O-line? Lt Would Most Certainly Get Off, Think About What That Could Offer For Pr If He Is Our Starter Next Year. Possibly More Protection, And A Decent Season. And Then If Concentrate On Our Secondary Needs, We Could Do Some Good Things

I assume he meant Williams. I also recall that Lincoln Kennedy was a huge bust for the Falcons (#9 overall in 1996) but he became a Pro Bowl player in Oakland.
