This is what ESPN's John Clayton reported, before the cuts started.

$92 million was the worst case scenario for the cap. Is that going to be the real number, or just a Clayton guess? 19 teams under, and 13 teams over the cap.

Minnesota Vikings are $24 million under the $92 million salary
Arizona Cardinals are $21.8 million under
Cleveland Browns are $21.5 million under
Green Bay Packers are $21 million under
San Francisco 49ers are $17.4 million under
San Diego Chargers are $17.1 million under
Jacksonville Jaguars are $14.2 million under
Philadelphia Eagles are $14.2 million under
Baltimore Ravens are $11.9 million under
Detroit Lions are $10.6 million under
St. Louis Rams are $10.6 million under
Seattle Seahawks are $9.5 million under
Cincinnati Bengals are $9 million under
New Orleans Saints are $8.2 million under
Houston Texans are $4 million under
Chicago Bears are $7.8 million under
New York Giants are $3.3 million under
Buffalo Bills are $2 million under
New England Patriots are $1.5 million under

Oakland Raiders are $26 million over
Miami Dolphins are $21.9 million over
Kansas City Chiefs are $20.7 million over
Tennessee Titans are $18.7 million over
Washington Redskins are $17 million over
Denver Broncos are $16.4 million over

It works like this BW. Say a player's cap number is 10 Mil. When you cut him you could save something like 7 Mil (I'm making all these numbers up, I don't know how to figure out how much you save). But you cut the 10 Mil of your books for example, but take on a 3 Mil penalty. Think of it like that.

Those players would have probably been cut anyway. But playes like Milloy might not have been cut.

And there is a STRONG possibility as reported by a number of sources that because of the Redskins cap situation, and the way their contracts are situated, the Redskins could have 20-25 rookies next season.

Lawyer Milloy is now official.
He has alot of experience in the 3-4 and has had over 100 tackles last year. He also played in all 16 games. The bad news is that he is in his 10th year and he only got one sack and one INT last season.

Maybe with AJ's connection to the Bills he can get the low down on Milloy....I think he is worth looking into.

Good point, except it could be a case where the Jets got a ty law , a jerry rice (after being released by 49ers), or another vet that puts up ONE good season then goes, What I say is the you can bring in old DBs. Charlie Garner was a running back and there is a small population of RBs in the NFL that can play into their mid 30s well. As to the lineman you brought in, the only old lineman I have seen is Ray Brown who retired this year. When you bring in a DB, especially with a young group of DBs on the Chargers roster. that can help alot. We must sign a veteran DB because we have no experienced Safetys or Cornerbacks on our roster without Jerry Wilson.

If teams dont meet the salary Cap they are either fined or have draft choices taken away. It will be interesting to see how Daniel Snyder handles that since he can pony of the coin out of his milk money. Tag's is better off stripping the Draft choices away. It will also interesting to see what the Colts do since the special master ruling found they were voilating the CBA on certain Bonus monies paid to Peyton and Marvin Harrison. they may need to cut some players too.

The league would void contracts to get them within compliance. I don't know the specifics of how that would work, but it is mentioned in one of the links in Salary Cap 101 (http://www.jaguars.com/News/FeatureSeries.asp) on Jaguars.com.

What I heard on NFL Total Access is that anyone cut who was not officially on the waiver wire can be rescinded. Those cut days prior that were on the wire cannot.

i saw that too so will shields is not cut yet.

Anyone with any ideas on where to check for the latest cuts? If teams have to be in cap compliance by 7 pm our time, there should be about 10-12 teams going nuts trying to get it in line.

Anyone know how much the Jets save towards the cap by cutting Mawae? As it stands, the Jets are around 10 million over the cap, with I belive the CBA factored in, or 15-18 million over the cap without a new CBA?

The Jets also reached a deal with Pennington to restructure his contract.

Pennington to stay in New York (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2355638)

Chad Pennington has reached an agreement with the Jets to restructure his contract, a move that will allow the QB to stay in New York, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports. Pennington will make $3 million this year, with incentives that could earn him up to $9 million.

The Jets only saved $633,330 in cap space by cutting Mawae.

Bills | Moulds asks for his release (http://www.kffl.com/hotw/nfl)
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 16:25:54 -0800

Leo Roth, of the Democrat and Chronicle, reports Buffalo Bills WR Eric Moulds, who has been asked to take a substantial cut in pay, wants the team to release him from the final two years of his contract so he can sign with another team. "Let him go, it's only fair," Greg Johnson, Moulds' personal advisor, said today after talking with his client. "If they're not going to pay what we feel is fair-market value, he should be allowed to go somewhere where he could maybe get it." Moulds is scheduled to count $10.8 million against the salary cap and he's due to earn $7.1 million in cash (salary and bonus) for the upcoming season
