The Greenbrier Ghost is the name popularly given to the ghost of a young woman in Greenbrier County, West Virginia who was murdered in 1897. The events surrounding the haunting have led to it becoming the only instance in American legal history in which the testimony of a ghost was accepted at a murder trial.

How long did this judge have a job?
The judge attempted to dismiss the testimony, but technically he couldn't because the defense, not the prosecution, brought it up in an attempt to discredit the prosecution. It backfired because the jury believed it, when the defense asked for it to be striked from the record (because it was based on a freaking ghost), the prosecution reminded the judge that you cannot strike out testimony your side brings up.
