BUSH LEAGUE

Not to say that Saints all-purpose player Reggie Bush isn't worth every ounce of attention he's getting. He is.
But if Bush is getting plenty, then Dolphins wide receiver Wes Welker should be getting just as much.
This season, Bush has an NFL-best 34 catches for 250 yards -- a 7.4 yards-per-catch average. Welker has 27 catches for 299 yards -- an 11.1 yards-per-catch average.
Bush has 12 punt returns for 132 yards -- an 11.0 yards-per-return average. Welker has nine returns for 117 yards -- a 13.0-yards-per-return average. Plus, Welker has returned kicks, something the Saints have no intention of allowing Bush to do.
Early into this season, Welker has been the Dolphins MVP, and it creates an intriguing situation. After this season, Welker is scheduled to become a restricted free agent. But Welker was an undrafted free agent, so unless the Dolphins tender him at a much higher level, then Welker could sign an offer sheet with another team that would not have to compensate Miami should it land him.
To think we let him go for Clinton Hart.

Yep. And Welker decided to sign with the Dolphins practice squad instead of the Chargers practice squad.
Wesley really screwed up with his decision after the Chargers tried to temporarily place him on the practice squad - while the Chargers have gone 24-13, he signed on with a sinking ship - the Fins have gone 13-24 while he's been there. He let his ego get in the way of being with something special over the first three seasons of his career. :(

Yeah, one of the few trates Welker doesn't have is the ability to predict the future. Afterall, everyone on the planet new the Chargers would make the playoffs in 2004 considering they had gone 17-31 the previous 3 seasons. While on the other hand the Dolphins were clearly a sinking ship after going 30-18 in the same period. Maybe he was a smoking buddy of Ricky Williams and just wanted to get closer to his boy.
Damn that ego. How dare he want to actually get a chance to play rather than sit on the pracitce squad.

He signed with the Dolphins practice squad - the same offer he had with the Chargers. He got ticked because of the business aspect of the Chargers deal - who already had more than $20 million in dead salary in 2004 due to cutting Boston, Wiley, Alexander and the like and couldn't afford to cut Dwight at the time (burning another couple of million of cap space). Welker later admitted that he didn't understand the business aspect of the attempt to get him temporarily on the Chargers practice squad.
When he signed with the Dolphins practice squad, he had no more idea of whether he'd get the chance to be moved to the active roster than he did with the Chargers (which would have happened almost immediately with the oft-injured Dwight going down with his weekly injuries).
After signing with the Dolphins practice squad, he was promoted to the active roster a week later - something he couldn't have foreseen since, as you pointed out, Welker could not see the future. ;)
