...and is called for a personal foul!!!

WHAT THE ****!!!

If a player wants to have long ass hair like that, I say that becomes a legitimate tackle.

Thoughts?

Apparently he hung on to the hair for too long maybe.

As far as I know you are allowed to use the hair, that was the talk when Ricky Williams had long hair hanging out from under his helmet in Miami. Today though Johnson had Troy's hair for quite a while after they were out of bounds.

That kills me. If a player grows their hair long enough that it comes out of their helmet, you should be able to tackle that player with their hair.

Oh, that's not the way they showed it at halftime of the Charger game.

yah the penalty was for holding on too long. not the tackle itself.

LJ tackled him by his hair...held on to it while they rolled on the ground, and still had a handful when he stood up....then he flipped it.

I wont feel sorry for LJ next time he gets his head twisted around.

Troy would have had the TD if he was a skinhead, but I dont think that kind of thing is going to happen again for a long time.

Rule states that his hair is part of the uniform. The tackle is legal (ask R. Williams). However hanging on after the tackle and the flip is considered excessive.

15yd penalty....

Thoughts?I can't believe he got penalized for tackling him by the hair. Why not just grow hair down to his knees then, so nobody can tackle him without getting flagged.

BTW, props to LJ. I've wanted that dude to get tackled by his hair for a long time now. :)

They didn't. They penalized him for hanging on to it out of bounds. Polamalu rolled on the ground, and then stood up and LJ was STILL hanging on to it. As Polamalu started to walk away, LJ then flipped his hair up.

That's why he got the unsportsmanlike.

he needs to be tackled by his hair more often. Then maybe he will get a clue and decide that having long hair is not such a great idea. Pittsburgh Squeeler sissy.

Deion Sanders is hilarious.

After the play:

"Who was it Deion?"

"Matt Hasslebeck."

My god....I think my dad posts in here!

Pinko girlie boy with the long hair wearin panties skinned his knee!

When did young people turn into Archie Bunker in this country?

Of course he grimaced.....he was running at full speed and was pulled down by his hair. Troy had a great game and that wimpy tackle (pulling hair is macho nowadays?) makes Donnie "the ankle biter" look like Urlacher. He was also as classy as anyone could ever expect. He didnt hurt his team by retaliating and he didnt start throwing punches.....he was as respectful (and intelligent) as LT or Gates would likely be in that kind of situation.
His Teammates took umbrage and a pushing match ensued....but Troy wasnt in it.

He made the play....took the pain.....walked away....and has the respect of his teammates to where they would "enforce". I would be proud of any Charger who played that way (and am....when they do).

I severely dislike Polamalu because he gets credit for things other safeties do better due to his openly religious attitude and ludicrously focussed on hair-style.

If Chris Hope had a mane and praised jesus after every good play, he'd have been in the pro-bowl last year.

If my aunt had balls she would be my uncle! Are you upset because Chad Johnson gets more hype than Marvin Harrison and Tory Holt?

Do you put ANY stock in the Pro Bowl or what goes into their selecting process?

My guess is no.

It is like people who hate Rush Limbaugh and have to (had to) always put "fat" in their insults.

He isnt bad because he is fat.....he is bad because he is a lying tool/puppet who doesnt practice what he preaches. That is bad enough without including "fat" or stooping to "nazi".

If Troy was REALLY that bad, there would be fewer people commenting on his tresses and more people mentioning how many times he hurt his team in the past when he has gone for the big hit instead of the wrap up.

I havent read any of that though........

I dont care.....you are all certainly able to dislike anyone for anything  .....but I do like Polamalu and it is interesting why the hair seems to be the main strike against the guy everytime.
Dude could shave his head and he wouldnt lose a fan......if Chad Johnson took out his grill (grille?) and still put up good numbers and played inspired football, he would still be popular. :Football:

You're arguing that I hate Polamalu because of his hair... not true. I hate Polamalu because he's beloved because of his hair. He's a truly great player... but he's no all-pro, and there are at least 6 safeties that play at a higher level than him. He's over-hyped and over-appreciated.

1. Ed Reed
2. Roy Williams
3. Darren Sharper
4. Brian Dawkins
5. Sean Taylor
6. John Lynch
7. Troy Polamalu
8. Lawyer Milloy

Im not arguing that you hate him because of his hair.....although, you are kind of implying that I might like him because of his hair....cough cough.

Im sure that you have alot of intelligent and fact based reasons for your "hatred" of Polamalu. The fact remains that you and those who agree with you tend to include his hair in most (if not all) of your posts slamming him.

If you were to ask me what I liked about Troy Polamalu, do you really think I would have said "his hairstyle"?

If Troy was a Maori and had a tattooed face....even if I didnt like him or his inked mug, I would recognize that it is a reflection of his heritage which is obviously a big part of his life.

Did you make fun of Steve Young wearing magic mormon underwear under his uni? (please tell me you did).

Roy Williams?

He's taken over Elvis Patterson's nickname: "Toast".

Talk about an overhyped and overappreciated player. He can't play today's safety position with the rest of those names mentioned. He's a LB who can't cover in the secondary.

Talk about hits all you want - if you can't hang with other teams' WRs, you're a liability in the pass game.

Polamalu, like Merriman and a handful (no more than the fingers you can count on one hand) of others in today's NFL, forces the offensive coordinator to always account for him as they have no idea where he's going to show up to mess up the play.

He's not overrated in the least IMO.

They didnt penalize him at all for grabbing his hair or holding onto his hair. They penalized him unsportsman like conduct Taunting, LJ being a dummy had to jaw after the play.

Polamalu might not be top 5 anymore and Hope might prove to be the more valuable of the 2005 Steelers saftey's.

1. Ed Reed
2. Sean Taylor although he hasnt looked like it this year.

I saw that hair tackling clip again today and it was still funny. Polomalu is pretty damn fast for a guy his size. I checked up his 40 time in the combine and he ran a 4.5 the first run and 4.3 when he ran it again. If it wasn't for his hair that could have been a TD.

Actually, his hair provides a very slight and imperceptible lift in the air for him, creating less friction on the playing surface - it's hard to see.

The guy is still super quick.

I am a fan of Polamalu. This guy flies around the field like a smaller version of Seau. He's disruptive, and a great tackler, and you have seen his picks. He is all-pro and deserves to be. You can be all-pro in either conference and I think that eliminates 4 off of your list for the AFC. Some of what I see on the list are past their prime, where Troy is young. He was a socal guy in college, even that is good enough for me.:Helmet: :Bolt:

You go on to say how hyped Troy is and you have Williams as your #2 safety in football? Pretty funny stuff.

I wonder how you would feel about the guy had the Chargers been smart enough to actually draft him?

Polomalu's hair is so long becuase he hasn't (at least last year) cut it seince he got drafted, it's a necessarily because of his heritage.......

Polomalu is a great player, but at times can be dirty.........which if he was a Charger I would love, but he isn't so I don't like it

I like the way he plays and I don't have a problem with his hair. More and more players (mostly on defense) seem to be wearing their hair long-but as soon as the shoe is on the other foot (via turnover) these guys need to deal with the possible consequences of their "cool" hairdo's. I was also wondering how you could justify a penalty for "hair pulling".

What is this-the first grade?
