Chargers LB Phillips practices, DE Castillo sits (http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/SD/9790752)
NFL.com wire reports
SAN DIEGO (Nov. 9, 2006) -- The medical news for San Diego was of the mixed variety.
Outside linebacker Shaun Phillips, second among Chargers with six sacks, practiced for the second straight day. Phillips skipped the past two games since being hurt Oct. 22 in the loss at Kansas City. He is expected to start Nov. 12 against the Cincinnati Bengals as the Chargers go for their third straight win.
But defensive end Luis Castillo's left ankle remains in a walking boot. Castillo, one of the top players on the NFL's No. 2 defense, was injured when falling awkwardly after sacking Browns quarterback Charlie Frye on Nov. 5.
"I've rolled my ankle before, but I have never had a high sprain like this," a glum Castillo said.
Castillo is second among Chargers with 46 tackles and his five sacks are third on the team.
Derreck Robinson, another defensive end, also was unable to practice Nov. 9. But his chances of playing are much better than Castillo's, according to coach Marty Schottenheimer.
Igor Olshansky, who starts opposite of Castillo, was excused from practice because of a personal matter. Team officials said he would return for practice Nov. 10 and play against Cincinnati.
