Second year player Jamaica Rector was one of the best players in the final preseason games for Dallas.
Parcells said he's as quick as Terry Glenn, and the strongest player(pound for pound) on the Cowboys. He can catch.
We should sign him from the Cowboys practice squad, NOW!

Why hasn't anyone picked him up yet then?

You're right, we should've signed him yesterday - from the Cowboys PC! Is that the reason he has had absolutley NO CATCHES this season? If you're looking for someone with similar size, we happened to have a guy named Eric Parker, who happens to be one of the games most clutch receivers.

Here are the incredible stats for Mr. Rector:

Other teams may have fewer needs at WR.
With Parker's neck injury, McCardell getting front teeth implants, and Osgood apparently unable to get separation, our WR threat is Jackson.
I've seen Camarillo's name on the roster, but never have seen him play.
(And, I'm not forgetting Ricky Bryant, on our practice squad).
Does anyone else think we have a problem at WR, or are you all in denial?

It may sound like a long shot, but I saw a very cool show about Rocket Ismail on Fox sports net. He still runs a sub 4.2 40 and really wants another shot at the NFL. He's 36 (same age as Kmac).

Sure the Rocket is no ones long term answer, but if we keep all our current receivers, and add the Rocket, we'd have a pretty nasty group of playmakers. (VJ, EP, Kmac, MF, Az Hakim, Rocket) Not too shabby. And unlike KRob, Rocket is the picture of class and would fit perfectly in our locker room.

Plus we'd have to use 0 first day draft picks on the WR postion, and could address OL, SS, ILB, DL all on day one. (assuming we get a second 3rd round pick for Brees) The great get greater.

Malcolm Floyd is on IR, and out for this year.
Maybe the Rocket could help.
Maybe Hakim could help.
Jamaica Rector also is free, with no cost in draft choices.
The bigger issue is if he could learn enough plays in time.

JB, I was talking about the Rocket for next year, I'm totally with you on this Jamaica dude, though I don't know that a player acquired now would have any impact assuming we get everyone healthy by Jan 14th. Our best bet is a healthy EP lined up with a healthy Kmac and VJ.

I say before we let panic mode set in remember that we've got that 1st round bye to heal up both Parker & KMac. We still have Az Hakim who has been in the playoffs several times before and may still be able to contribute some big plays. We still also have VJ, Gates, and Manumaleuna. Not to mention we have a halfback that can catch out of the backfield, too. Let's remember the weapons we have before we consider picking up an unproven talent.

What about trading for Mike Williams in Detroit? I'm sure we could swing him for a 2nd or 3rd.

A new home with a winning program would do him good.

No way we'd give up a day 1 pick for a guy who couldn't beat out Josh McNown for playing time at WR. I'd be all for giving him a shot if he gets cut or something, but I would not give up a high draft pick for him.

Personally I love Williams, Detroit is an absolute graveyard for talented players, so it definitely intrigues me.

I'd be willing to spend a third round pick on a player who was picked in the top 10. He's got a history in So Cal, and has improved over the past few games. Frankly no one looks worth a damn in that terrible offense with Kitna throwing the ball.

Considering pro bowl QBs get traded for 2nd rounders (Culpepper), I'd only give up maybe a 5th at most for Williams. And that's pushing it for a guy who got beat out by Roy Williams, Mike Furrey, and another no name guy (not that Williams is).

In all likelyhood, Williams will be cut this or next off season. My guess is sooner rather than later since there was talks of him being dropped before the season began.

Yeah but I'd rather have Williams than Culpepper right now, at least Williams has untapped potential. Minnesota was desperate to move Culpepper because: A) That idiot was involved in the sex boat scandal B) Everyone knows he is mediocre at best without an elite WR like Randy Moss.

I agree a third rounder is probably too good for Mike Williams, but he still intrigues me. The guy was an amazing talent at USC.

V. Jackson: 5 for 97, 2 TD
A. Gates: 2 for 63
L. Tomlinson: 1 for 10
L. Neal: 1 for 7
K. McCardell: 1 for 4

I keep waiting for the punchline.....

Are you guys kidding me? Jamaica Rector? Raghib Ismail? Mike Williams?

Uh- we're 13-2 and have one of the best offenses in the NFL. Get through this weekend against the Cardinals- then we've got a bye week to get healthy. We've got the horses to win a Lombardi.

BTW: jamesbond- Turangi as in Turangi, NZ?

The only Jamaica the Chargers are thinking about is where to spend the Super Bowl winners salary while on vacation.

Ismail? 36. Sub 4.2 40 my ass.

Mike Williams? Why do we need another tight end? He's a fat, lazy piece of junk. I flipped over to the Detroit game yesterday, just in time to see a pass go "doink" - right off his hands.

None of those guys know the offense.

Parker and McCardell will be back - healthy - for the playoffs.

Yes, kiwibolt, Turangi, NZ...just down the road from Hamilton.
And I wasn't kidding about Rector...maybe just overly influenced by that last pre-season game, when he played so well it looked as if he'd forced Parcells to keep him on the 53 man roster...
Unlike Mike Williams, he woudn't cost anything(except a roster spot).
I don't understand why Hakim was available after Detroit, either.

Lots of guys look like All Pros in the final preseason games. It's when all the scrubs get a chance to play with a few vets. PS squad guys have to do something to stand out in the preseason if they're gonna get kept for development purposes.

Charger fan in Turangi- you a native kiwi or a SD transplant like me?

Actually, I think "Y" would be better. He can jump higher and his touchdown celebration is heaps better.

"Y" has a gun charge, and has no preference on stadium music.

Have you seen "Z" ??? He says he looks good in Powder Blue.

San Diego transplant. I used to watch John Hadl and Tobin Rote passing to Lance Alworth in Balboa Stadium(and Jack Kemp, before he went to Buffalo).

Good stuff- sounds like you've got a couple of years on me, but I grew up at the Murph as a kid. My father had season tickets for 30+ years- he went to all the games in 60' at the LA coliseum and got tickets at Balboa from then onwards. I've been a bolt fan as long as I can remember- Didn't miss a home game from 73'-95'- and my first name is Tobin (after Mr. Rote). Moved here to NZ about 3 years ago.

Enjoy the season- ones like this don't come along too often (as I'm sure you're well aware).

Wow! There was some criticism when Tobin Rote was brought in to play, while Hadl developed. Neither one of them had much hair back in '63.

Regarding receivers x, y, and z, Az-Hakim must be 'z', right?

No- the x,y and z thing is a joke about how the offseason goes- Most people argue that just about every free agent WR would be "the perfect" fit for the Chargers.

Shamrock and I were just joking that if x wasn't the guy, then Y must be....

I wasn't thinking at all about the offseason.
After watching these last two games, with Rivers looking very frustrated for most of the time, and with Vincent Jackson apparently the only WR threat, some ideas at WR for the rest of THIS season seemed necessary.
Parker's good, but neck injuries never sound trivial, to me.

healthy receiving corps for the playoffs is killer for us. for as long as i know, since EP reaggrevated his neck injury and Floyd on IR, our passing game hasn't done too well. Our only passing threats are LT, VJ, and AG. THREE THREATS?! three threats with one coming out of the backfield? that's not good. with EP and KMac healthy, i think we will do great! Sit EP and KMac out next game and play Hakim and Osgood. sit LT for second half and play Turner. Let Billy Volek get 4th quarter. Sit Castillo. We need each and every person ready for our games in the playoffs and the Super Bowl
