...and leave LT in the backfield by himself with 5 receivers split wide. we should run this formation every time we get 8 or 9 yards on first down and are left with 2nd and short. defenses won't be able to cope.

I would think a QB sneak or Fullback draw would be better suited and would be more effective. If you botch the snap you are in for a world of hurt and if you ran that play every time I would think the other team would find a way to stop it... Good idea for once in awhile. Email it to Cam and see if he agrees with you :p

I am going to chalk this thread up to a terrible hang-over playing a huge role in the making of it.

I hope that Cam is cooking up some new stuff for the playoffs. That double pass that VJ dropped yesterday maybe should have been saved for the playoffs.

i concur.. i have faith in our team, but rivers is too huge to sit out at a critical time such as the playoffs.

i wasn't criticizing rivers. the title of the thread was a joke, you were supposed to THINK i was criticizing rivers until you read the body. rivers is great, i'm just suggesting a way to utilize LT's full talents more. if you take the qb out of the picture on a running play you open things up because the qb doesn't typically block. spreading the receivers out also opens things up for LT to break a big run, and defenses have to respect his ability to throw. and trying this on second and short involves little or no risk because it is pretty much a free play, like an 0-2 pitch in baseball.

The only gadget play I'm hoping to see in the playoffs is that halfback option pass from LT. Our offense is too good to be mucking around with flea flickers and other assorted nonsense - save the unpredictability for whether we're passing or running on which down and to who.

i don't really see it as a gadget play in the same vein as a flea flicker or double reverse, etc., because i don't envision LT actually throwing the pass. it's more of a way of getting him space to run in because there would only be 6 men in the box, unless the defense did something stupid and actually left a receiver uncovered.

Those kind of plays can go horribly wrong with disasterous results! LT the only man I want to throw besides philip or his backups

what part of 6 men in the box against the best running back in history doesn't make sense to you?

You can put 8 men in the box against the best running back in history and he will still get his!

I think Rivers showed us something at the game; there's no quit in him. He went out there with a bad ankle and continued to play. If I remember correctly a few weeks back in a close game with Atlanta driving late in the game Vick took himself out of the game. I remember the commentator mentioning that one does not take themselves out of the game with so much at stake. I see alot of Fouts in Rivers.

I think we ought to use more plays with LT in the slot and burner in the backfield you can even use some trick plays with that

i think people are getting a little carried away with how great an arm LT actually has...the whole key to most of his touchdowns is the element of surprise and catching the Defense off guard...not trying to take anything away from LT but his passes aren't all that crisp

Uh, yeah, we should bench the guy that's thrown for 15,000 yards and 120 TDs since he started college.
Or.... we could just let LT be LT and let Rivers be the QB that leads us to Florida.

right, because that's exactly what i said, that we should bench rivers. i never suggested an alternative formation to be used in certain situations or anything.

I agree. I know Philip is the guy of kind who never gives up and is always calm no matter how much we are losing by. And he has the most confidence in his teammates and they all have the same confidence in him. And Philip is a great leader and I personally think when it comes to crunch time I would take Rivers over Bress any day because Brees always seemed like he was nervous and could never come through. But I always have faith in Rivers he will because he is a great leader like that.

I like those plays. I would also like to see LT, MT and Neal in together at the same time. Then send either LT or MT in motion. Or even send them both in motion to opposite sides of the field. Opps, can't have two in motion. Well you could flare the unmotioned one out the other way at the snap. I am not very football wise. Would that work against an all out blitz if we could screen out to either side very quickly and still keep Neal in to pick off a linebacker or whatever? Well maybe not. I guess that would leave only the ends for downfield receivers. Good thing I am not employed by the Chargers. Sorry for the ranting and raving!!!
