The only reason I'm going.
Anyone else here a fan of this music festival?
Thats great news. Where did you hear this? I've been to a few Coachella's and they never disappoint. Any news on other acts slated to appear?

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE CONFIRMED TO HEADLINE COA
Rage Against The Machine will reunite after seven years for a headlining performance at the 2007 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The news, first rumored over the weekend, was confirmed by press representatives for the festival. The political rap-rock act, which was one of the biggest acts of the '90s, played Coachella's main stage during the festival's first edition in 1999. The group broke up in 2000 after three studio albums, one collection of covers and one live set. Guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk went on to form Audioslave with ex-Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell, while frontman Zack de la Rocha worked on a still-unreleased solo album.
The Rage performance at this year's Coachella is being promoted as a "one-off," and there is no indication whether the group plans to tour or record again beyond this.
Rage played Coachella back in 1999. Tom Morello, guitarist of the reunited political act, thinks that a lot has changed since the band spilt almost a decade ago.
“For ten years the question that I was asked was, ‘Why is Rage Against the Machine the only political band?’ Now there’s a cross a lot of different genres of music. I don’t think it’s just that artists are finally speaking up, I think a lot of people are pissed off no matter what their jobs might be. Across a lot of different vocations, people are pissed off by what they see going on and in different ways trying to express their feelings about it. Some of them have access to recording studios and I think that you are seeing more of that now.”
Rage will headline the third day of the festival.
While the split between de la Rocha and his former bandmates was reportedly on bad terms, the vocalist and Morello appeared together at a 2005 rally to save a Los Angeles community garden, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Rage will be joined by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Bjork as headliners at the eighth annual Coachella outing, scheduled for April 27th, 28th and 29th at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, California. Tickets go on sale this Saturday (January 27th). This is the first year that the event has expanded to three days.
Other acts slated to appear on the bill include the Arcade Fire, Interpol, The Good, The Bad and The Queen, Arctic Monkeys, Sonic Youth, the Satellite Party, Kings Of Leon, Fountains Of Wayne and dozens more. Exact dates and times for each act will be announced in the next few days.
Tom Morello will also perform during the event as his political folk alter ego, the Nightwatchman. Morello will release his first Nightwatchman album, called One Man Revolution, on April 24th. Although he was initially hesitant to record as the Nightwatchman, Morello told us his position has gradually changed: "I've got a catalog of about 50 songs, and it's really been the kind of thing where I've looked at the Nightwatchman stuff as, you know, the black Robin Hood of folk music, where I just show up when needed, for this particular benefit or that particular protest, or this tour to rail against authority. But I think it's important to record those songs, because I believe in them."
Audioslave released its third studio album, Revelations, last fall, but has been on a hiatus while Cornell records a new solo effort.

It's a corporate Woodstock. Which would completely go against what Woodstock stood for. Therefor it's an oxymoronic festival that costs $300. The people there that go seem to be pretentious people who want to be part of 'the in crowd' and think they are hippies for 1 weekend and that they are 'deep'. They go to Trader Joes to buy 'organic foods' cuz they think they'll live longer and they go to art shows because they think it's the 'in thing' to do and it makes them look more cultural. When in reality they really go to these art shows for the free drinks. They have myspace accounts with over 200 friends and they like crappy subpar bands like The Strokes or The White Stripes. They are willing to pay $200 for bands that were good in the past or even for bands that were horrible in the past like Depeche Mode (YUCK) They are 30 year old people who refuse to grow up and go to stupid bars with all there friends every weekend because they get in free, and when they describe the bar to there friends they decsribe it as being 'this really CHILL place'. They are followers of the most extreme kind in that they are willing to pay 100's of dollars just because everyone else is doing it yet in reality with the over magnitude of bands that are performing they couldnt possibly like all of the music that is played there. Rather they just want to seem like they like everything that way they seem more 'open minmded' to there pretentious metrosexual friends when in reality they are actually going to see about 3 bands that they actually listen to. They are the hollywood types, the farces, the fakes, the losers, the followers, the 'in crowd' wannabes, the phonies, the overly pretentious idiots, the lost souls, the lemmings, the people that have something missing from there life and are looking to fill that void through a purely corporatized event that makes them feel self important because they can act like hippies for the weekend.
I wouldnt go not even if Jesus himself delivered a hand written invitation to me and reserved me a spot in the VIP section. Please dont go to this event it represents all that is worng with our generation today.

See, I'd probably go if I could swing it, and I'm not anything like what you described (although I do have Pete Pan affliction). I'm a 40 something dope smokin' slacker that would love to see Rage again before they sell out to the man... or did that already happen and I missed it?

Yeah I know in reality I know not everyone that goes there is like that but everyone here in LA that is like that definately goes there. They all flock there like a bunch of Lemmings. All that being said I do have some friends that go and they always ask me to go in which case I give them the same type of answer. They just look at me and say "You're views are weird". There are just a lot of phonies out here in LA

Coachella is a good time, but it is way too overcrowded. Even at 250 a head. But with Rage coming back from the dead, maybe I will try and swing it. Who knows, it will be historic for sure....

If there is one thing that some people get way too worked up over is selling out to "the man." Coachella is not our version of Woodstock, but more or less a big corporation making loads of money off of a great concert, that can only be seen in the middle of the damn desert. Oh well, it is a capitalistic society right? I don't see any problem with it except for the crowds. But my worst enemies are hippies.

Also if you see in the Sat. lineup, The Nightwatchman is actually Tom Morello from RATM so he'll be there 2 days in a row. And DJ Shadow (who worked with Zach for his solo album) is performing on Friday, so we'll prolly be in for a bigger treat and hear some tracks from Zach solo album that he never released. There's also rumor that Rage may be touring later this year...possibly summer.

I don't care what anybody says, Coachella is tons of fun. I went in '03 and had a blast. As for the crowd I didn't see too many of the fake hipster types, just people who love good music. And if you love all types of music you're not going to find a better lineup than that, period. A lot of those bands don't even tour much in the USA or at all, so a lot of times Coachella is the only place you can see them in the states.
The tickets can be expensive, but when you break down the price for the amount of bands you can see, it's a bargain, really. I'm definitely going this year now that I live so close, it's just a matter of convincing some folks to come along...

But seriously dont u think for $300 they should have more current bands???
Every year it's been some band that was good at least 5 years ago. I think people buy into the hype of it moreso than wanting to go see the Chili Peppers.
I mean seriously the Chili Peppers??? They are old news. And so is Rage. I though Zach was supposed to put out a Hip Hop album???
Why not have someone like Outkast headlining.

I Totally agree minus the Outkast thing...
250-300 $ for a 3 days pass is REDICULOUS. Unlose those seats are on the stage, what are they thinking? I thought rage had a background of "F- the man" anyways.. ya know?
anyways folks still buy the tickets so that is the answer as to why they are priced like that.
I can see a 2 hour Slayer show up close and personal for 23 bucks down the street! Why drive 300 miles and pay 300 bucks to see.... uh who was playing agian?

I can't deal with festivals anymore but had Manu Chao not recently played SD and LA I would go just to see them play.
