Dean Spanos is a smart man. He knows that during the offseason this board gets very boring. Firing Marty is the perfect thing to keep the message board active during the offseason.
Now we can form our conspiracy theories, argue the AJ vs new coach thing (since there are no more Rivers/Brees threads) and also throw in a little free agency and draft info if we need to get that deep into the discussion bank.
Thank you Mr Spanos for keeping the Charger forum members in mind and making sure we have debate fuel to last until training camp!

You might be on to something.
Could explain the terrible timing of this firing....

All Charger fans i got a big conspiracy theory for Marty's firing yesterday. look back to the playoff game against the Patridiots. Me and any good charger fan know that we deserved to beat the patriots. We beat them on both sides of the ball and came up on the "unlucky" side come to the end of the game not because of the coaching calls but simply because the ball didnt roll our way on plays such as the fumble by mccree, roughness flag on florence, fumble by parker, and dropped pass by jackson. All the guys here that I've named, played a vital roll in the chargers run to 14-2 season whether it was veteran leadership by mccree, reliability for parker and florence for the most part and coming in big on plays when we needed it the most by jackson. Saying all of that, dont you think its kinda disturbing thinking they all make some sort of mistake during the game. Sure, you can say its apart of the game and i dont disagree with that but take in the fact that these guys never made mistakes like they did all season and let alone to think that they'd let mistakes happen in one of the most important games of their life. It strikes a sense of suspiscion that maybe AJ was giving Marty a good slap in the face for all their disagreements throughout their relationship. Then, after the season you see our two coordinators go and to think maybe that AJ's broom started long before it was mentioned. It was foreshadowed by that playoff game with all its "suspicious" mistakes that all fell on the back of Marty, when in all honesty he had no control of. So maybe losing that playoff game is what AJ wanted, to gain all of the respect for finding draft/freeagency/AND now coaching success. Though i wasnt a Marty fan, its still hard to see him go in what many can see as "dirty"

Why was Marty fired?
Everyone knows who Chewbacca is, right? Chewbacca is a Wookie from the planet Kashyyyk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kashyyyk). But Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endor). Now think about it; that does not make sense! Why would a Wookiee, an eight-foot tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor, with a bunch of two-foot tall Ewoks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ewok)? That does not make sense! But more important, you have to ask yourself: What does this have to do with this Marty Schottenheimer being fired as head coach from the San Diego Chargers? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this Marty getting fired! It does not make sense!
Look at me. I'm a lawyer defending the General Manager and Owner of a NFL Franchise, and I'm talkin' about Chewbacca! Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense! None of this makes sense! And so you have to remember, when you're hanging out by the water cooler, or on the Chargers message boards deliberatin' and conjugatin' the Emancipation Proclamation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emancipation_Proclamation) does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed online community, it does not make sense! If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acquittal)! The defense rests.
THERE YOU GO.

You think that makes no sense? How about Yoda knowing Chewbacca during the clone wars, coincidence? Or does it just not make sense? How about Obi Wan Kenobi not remembering R2 and C3PO in episode 4 when it turns out they were in episodes 1-3? It does not make sense! Or speaking of C3PO, did he really need to be created by Anikin? Dammit, it mikes no sense!!!!!
Oh well, I am going to have a  or 3 and hope we hire a coach that can take our talented team to the promised land.

This man is correct about the whole Dean Spanos situation.
Guys, don't get bored too quick, try to make this last as long as possible.
Dean called me and told me he'll even have trade talks with AJ about getting Brees back from the Saints and giving them Rivers. To bring back the QB discussion: Brees vs Rivers part 451.
Beware, you've been warned.

I like the humor that this thread was inteded to bring, unfortunately we never have a boring off season lol we always have some kind of drama and usually AJ is behind it, this time he has a partner in crime and that's a gutless owner.

I seriously think AJ had something up his sleeves. I mean, if Marty was not going to listen, he probably let him know, hey...I got someone already in mind, you don't wanna listen, there's the door. With all due respect, you're a great coach, but you got to listen to us every once in awhile Marty.
Marty said alright, im out

What's stupid is thinking that either Parcells or Johnson will be the coach of the Chargers next season.
It's not unreasonable at all to think that either Cam or Philips would have been the next head coach once Marty's contract was up at the end of this year. Why would they can Marty with one year left to hire one of his coordinators that was already on staff anyway? Once those two left, it became a different story.

Once again, JJ is happy with retirement. So happy he doesn't even care about the Charger's latest news.
And Parcells is too late. We could've had him before Marty came in.

Even if we could have Parcells, why would we want him? He wasn't able to turn Dallas around. He couldn't control his own team (TO).
His only value as a Charger would be when he stood next to the cheerleaders on the sideline, thus raising the entire group's average breast size.
