Yeah, we're stuck in Faider Country, but we don't have to like it!

Charger Fans of Los Angeles, unite and take over!!!

I hear ya, I too am from the L.A. area. I have season tix so I make the trip to Diego at least ten times a year. Surprisingly even though I drive a vehicle that is very much a "Chargersmobile" including personalized license plate I haven't had to put up with much of any ribbing....maybe they think if I am that crazy to roll around this town in that, then they'd better not provoke me.

Do you know of any hangouts that are Charger friendly or that at least a few Chargers fans get together at? I have lived here all my life and have yet to find one

I have yet to find a true Chargers bar up here. Though I've found a restuarant/bar that will put the game on where a handful of Charger fans seem to hang out. It's called McCabes and is in Santa Monica. If you want more info, I'll find the address for yah...

My buddy and I don't miss a game, we're both LA transplants from SD. Last time I had season tickets, we made the drive to SD 8 times for a fun-filled 1-15 season. Now we just keep looking for a bar up here where we aren't surrounded by silver and black clods (anyone ever wonder if "Raider Nation" exists simply because the colors are cool??? I'd like to test it by changing their colors to orange and pink).

Rick's Tavern On Main (Santa Monica/Venice) is good about putting our game on for us, but we seldom see any other SD fans about. The burgers are the best in the city.

I'm always interested to hear of another spot though if anyone knows one. . .

How's the parking down there on a Sunday? What are the cross streets?

rule12b
09-08-2004, 01:10 PM
Parking is pretty much a street and public lot affair. Waztch the meters, they do charge on Sundays. Cross streets are Main and Marine. It's next door to the Library Ale House and diagonal from The World Cafe. If the game is televised in LA, we're watching at my place, if not, we'll be there wearing our colors proudly. . .

In Studio City about 3miles West of Universal Studios, there is a place Called The Sportsmans Lodge. (at Coldwater & Ventura Blvds.)
It's where I go to see the Charger games, but have to share with all the Raider; Saints; Rams fans, etc. on about 10 reg and 1 big screen TV
Usually don't get to hear Chargers. The game most want to see gets the volume up unless it is an afternoon game when most people who come for the BRUNCH (great) leave after the morning game.

rule12b
09-08-2004, 02:51 PM
We try to get to Rick's early so we can claim the TV with sound, but otherwise, yeah we have to share with all the others. On the brighter side, the bar gives no special preference to Raider kooks and they don't turn out in big numbers usually. The bartender knows us though and usually hooks us up nicely. Try to come by sometime.

xnet
09-08-2004, 08:55 PM
I'm going to try McCabes because it's right by my house and they play all the games with the volume up, but there are no huge screens (a trade off). Last year I went to three games there and there was about 5-8 Charger fans there each time. If they aren't playing the game, I'll keep Rick's in mind as my back up! Go BOLTS!

If you live in LA, the number to call an complain about the Raiders being shown over the Chargers is (323) 460-3432. Be sure to let them know that the only team in Southern California is the one and only Chargers and that you think they stink for supporting an organization like the Raiders that has shown nothing but contempt and disdain for our beautiful city (okay, so fib a little about liking LA)...

McCabes turned out to be great. I did a quick head count and think there were about 11 Charger fans there! I won't be able to make it next week (I'm gone on my honeymoon), but I'll definitely be back... Also, nice meeing everyone that was there... There were a few from this board and the UT one as well!

I will miss the Jets game because I'll be on a flight to Hawaii for my honeymoon, but I will be there the following week...

L.A. Charger Fans: There is a place to catch the game on Sundays. It's in Santa Monica and about 1 block West of 26th street on the North side of Santa Monica Blvd. The place is called McCabes, and last week there was about 15 of us there to watch the game vs. Houston (all Bolt fans). There were a few other fans there for other teams, but we were by far the largest group of fans for one team.

One thing that you might need to make sure of is whether or not the "blackout" reaches up to L.A., because even Direct TV customers (homes and bars) can be blacked out.

Give it a try, we all need a good place in L.A. to catch the Bolts.

Hey rule12b,

Did I read that right? You think two shades of black make a cool color combo.

rule12b
09-22-2004, 10:51 AM
My theory is simply that many members of the Raider Nation couldn't even name one member of their team, and, if their colors weren't nice and "tough" for pseudo-gang purposes, but were instead, say, purple and white? Radier Nation would cease to exist.

And admittdly, I'd wear two shades of black before I'd wear the orange and blue of the Denver Donkeys. . .But not on a gameday, that is for damn sure. . .

If they wore purple and yellow (Viking colors) they wouldn't exist, very true.

I wouldn't wear any colors except for my Charger colors!

Blacked out, EVERYWHERE. About ten of us fanned out to find it calling every place we could, and we got bupkus for our trouble. Soooo, we listened to it on the radio. We're taking the train down to this week's game.

I can't get away this weekend. Sounds like I'll have to put with the radio, unless a sell out occurs. Next week I'll definitely be at McCabes for the game.

good point that us charger fans have to pay for - thru the nose.

some goofy things going on with NFL DTV:

Drove to Simi Valley to watch the Jets game and found a semi cool place - good people, no sound and I had to listen to a Jets fan confirm that he could spell his teams name all game long. J E T S Jets Jets Jets Jets.... (now you have an idea what semi-cool is)

Drove to the SAME PLACE for the Tenessee game and it was blacked out! ***?!?!

Called DTV and they said the Jets game was being shown on CBSE and the zip code for the bar I went to is still in the blackout area. So I played the zip code game with her until I hit the SB zips and thats where the blackout area ends... not camarillo, not thousand oaks, not Simi or Ventura........the santa barbara city line.

So I listened to the Jags game on the radio while watching the Faiders lose on TV. My wife said I brought the bar feeling home and was worried about our daughter getting ADD or some such nonsense.

I was one of the Chargers fans at McCabes for the Texans game (wearing #37) and will be there for every away game they dont show on crappy CBS2.

Its a great place with killer food and great atmosphere - british pubs usually have this. The texans game was an awesome experience and it felt like I still lived in SD. Meet up with us if you can, its worth the drive for being able to HEAR the game and drive safely. These damn freeways will kill you.

thanks for listening

Good time at McCabes. About 7 total Chargers fans, (outnumbering all other fans by far) enjoying an absolutely anemic, lifeless game against the Panthers (but a W nonetheless!). Best part, every TV in the place was on the Chargers game save for 3 out of about 15 or so, with the sound on, you gotta love that for comfort and respect.

Props out to Jesse and his crew for turning up!

They only let those under 21 in if they're with an adult. (from what I've heard at least). If you're a youngen, you might want to call ahead and verify that you can get in. I've never actually seen anyone turned away though.

Guys, I may unilaterally suggest a change. I may grab a good table at the Baja Cantina in Venice. The margaritas are excellent. If anyone is interested in meeting me there, let me know so I get an appropriately sized table. They have a few big booth type set ups with a virtually private tv. Plus, there are cute honeys about and no glare on the tellys. At McCabes, the sunlight poses a major problem.

I'm not sure about this, but its an idea I am toying with. . .

LA Charger fan for life and dam proud of it too. Been since 1997, when I went to my fist charger game, pops and others around me are Rams/Raiders but never got caught up in their hype those teams. I am as real as it gets because came into NFL fan hood being laughed at constantly until the 2005 season. I totally hear you guys on the Raider nation being all about the colors, most of those ********ers don't even know what’s going on with their team or on the field for that matter. I am a true Raider Fan Hater to the bone! Bolt fans charge up this is going to be a good season regardless of a slow start.

Bottom line is I am looking for a good recomendation of a place to stay In SD Mission Valley so we can take the MTS Green Line. Want to drink like a Raider Fan and avoid the drive back. Stocking up on Budweiser as I type. errr maybe not.

Anyways, last year after the playoff game I drove back with my friend sleeping all the way back. Pretty much sucked after losing the way we did. Really felt like drinking like a Raider Fan after that but didnt. Want to avoid that again.

Thanks!!

Raitard fan is there running his smack llike they just won the super bowl. Whats really funny to me, is how before the season started all you saw were Moss jerseys and brand new Raitard stickers on the back of automobiles flying around. Now you can just hear the crickets.

Charger fan in LA here. Just got job in Santa Monica a few months ago but I still own a house in SD. I commute twice a week from SD, crazy but pays the bills. I see lots of Charger fans around the Santa Monica/LA/OC area (lightning bolt stickers on rear windshields). It's a quiet loyalty since the majority of the LA/OC population are Raider fans (especially my co-workers).

They won't stop talking smack until we win the Super Bowl. That should change next season, I hope.

One of the things I look forward to is going back home to SD and partying with my fellow San Diegans downtown after the Chargers win it all. If not come to LA. LA people have been longing for a NFL team i would hope SD fans wouldnt stray.

I'm always interested to hear of another spot though if anyone knows one. . .

Yeah Rick'a Tavern really does have great burgers, and make a good steak too!

Do you think we can arrange a car pool for those days?

In fact, if anyone has a car but wants to drink, I can be prepared to drive back to LA as I don't drink.

Go ahead and message me, or if you want start a thread and see what we can come up with.

Yeah, me too. I used to live in AZ and had to take what I could get, listen to it on the radio or have my folks mail me the game tapes (shh don't tell the NFL!)

I wonder how the L.A. Raider fans feel about having to watch all the Chargers games? Doesn't seem like they showed very many Raider games at all this season...haha

Do you guys get the Chargers games on the regular CBS/FOX channels, especially the away games?

I just moved to Sherman Oaks(near Burbank) from San Diego and I am deciding on which tv provider to go with, Time Warner or Direct TV. I was wondering if the Charger games are regularly televised on the local channels, especially the away games since I have season tickets and will be driving down to San Diego for the home games.

Also if any of you are from the North Hollywood, Burbank, Sherman Oaks, Toluca Lake, Studio City areas, do you know of any Charger bars in the area? Unfortunately so far I've only found a Raiders/Dodgers bar which I won't be going to anymore.

Do you guys get the Chargers games on the regular CBS/FOX channels, especially the away games?

I live in North SD with Dish Network as my service provider. However, I have a ordinary UHF antenna pointed towards LA that picks up all of the main over-the-air channels. It even shows great HD content when available. I get ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, KTLA, KCOP, PBS (KCET and KOCE), etc.

Whether or not you use cable or satellite, a UHF antenna will allow you to see the Chargers on either Fox or CBS. That way, if one source has a problem, just flip over to the other one. My Dish Network set-top box has the ability to receive two input sources, so besides the Dish reception, my antenna reception is piped directly into the box.

Talk to your provider to see if they have the same capability.

ps: Make sure your provider carries the NFL Network and preferably NFL-HD.

Hey whats up my fellow LA transplant! I lived in Valley Village for 3 years right next to N Hollywood where u are at. Yes u get will get ALL Charger games just like it were San Diego. I live in the Riverside area and all I have are rabbit ears, no cable or satelite and was pleasantly surprised to get almost all the Charger games on CBS 2. They used to be pro-Raiders, but I imagine for ratings they want the team that's winning and right now that's the Chargers. With Marty gone that may change though.

FanFromOC
02-17-2007, 10:15 AM
I live in OC and unfortunately, FOX & CBS don't always choose the Chargers as the game to televise on their regular schedule. I have Time Warner & more often than not, I have to go out to watch the away games. (I have season tickets as well, so I'm covered for home games).
I'm thinking about switching to either DishNetwork or DirectTV.
FYI...as a side note, Time Warner does NOT offer the NFL network & it doesn't look like they will anytime soon since they are fighting like crazy over whether it should be part of a "premium sports package" or included as part of the regular channell lineup. It doesn't look good at this point.
I would go with the dish...just my opinion.

I live in 29 Palms, but were part of the L.A. TV market. We got nearly all the Chargers games on CBS 2 out of L.A. And the other games that they didn't air were shown on Fox and NBC, as part of their deals with the NFL. CBS 2 has a deal to show as many Chargers games as they can. *They finally gave up trying to be the Raiders station three years ago...thank goodness. :Bolt:

Not sure... meet up at a bar locally would be great. One with decent food, prices and atmosphere. The only sports bar I usually go to is called Big Wangs in Hollywood. Granted it's a patriots bar, there shouldn't be too many pats fans there on sunday morning, especially after they lose! Not to mention there are plenty of other fans who go there and it seems to be getting more anti-pat. Also it's a pretty diverse crowd. Great food!, good drink specials, about 16 plasma screens and two 5ft projecetors. It's a small place. Cute waitresses.

Let me know if you guys have any other places that would be better....

So I posted this on another thread... and I want to get a bunch of Charger fans together this Monday night, at my normal hang out. Its at a bar in Alhambra. Just south of Pasadena, west of Rosemead, and north of East LA. Cool spot with $1 and $2 drink specials. Please join me in cheering on the BOLTS!!!

For everyone that is going to be in the L.A. area for the play-off game on Saturday, where are you going to be watching the game?

I want to go to a packed "Charger House" but I'm not really finding any good info as to where that would be...

Any info?

Im in Redondo Beach and glad to say that after 10 years in LA I'm moving back home soon. Also to reward myself I bought season tickets! Most bars in Hermosa are friendly to all jersey designs, but in particular there are lots of transplants from Pitts, NE, and Ohio. SD fans are just as common though.

I'm also in LA county. I'm in Agoura Hills just on the border of Ventura County. I currently go to Penn State so I haven't been in So Cal that much any more, but I do spend a lot of time there in the summer.
