no one wants him because they know he already has to sit out 8 games into 2007 , and they suspect that suspension could get extended ala pacman

We have the number one tackle in the league JAMAL baby.

So that's why no-one has said lets get tank.

this Tank is outta ammo (not counting the guns that he owns) and won't have any gas to get anywhere near san diego :D

Another thing to remember:

The clock on Tank's 8 game suspension doesn't start to tick until he's signed by another team.

In other words, if a team signs him at midseason (after 8 games), he'll have to sit out the remainder of the season as his suspension starts when he is signed.

Hard to see him being signed in 2007. There will be a sucker in 2008 - likely the Donks after their latest batch of retreads and character issue "bargains" in the draft flame out once again. ;)

Just for the sake of discussion, not that I'm saying that we should jump on the "sign Tank" bus, but if Jamal were to be injured, would you guys be at ease relying on 303lb. Ryon Bingham?

I did not know that his suspension would start until after he is signed. So say if he doesn't get signed at all this year but a team picks him up next year will he still have to serve his suspension for the 08-09 season.

SHOWDOWN LOOMING FOR STEELERS, POLAMALU? by Michael David Smith
John Harris of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review raises the question today of whether the Steelers should be worried about Marvin Demoff, the agent who represents safety Troy Polamalu.

Harris notes that Polamalu's contract expires after the 2007 season (http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/steelers/s_514779.html), and that the Steelers would prefer to get a deal done before the season. Harris says the Steelers won't negotiate during the season, so the Sept. 9 opener is the deadline for a deal to get done, or else the Steelers would have to slap the franchise tag on Polamalu in 2008 or risk losing him as an unrestricted free agent.

Only way I see someone signing him is if his BAL comes back under the legal limit and Goddell says no additional suspension. Then somebody might sign him for the minimum.

Hot off the presses

Tank was under the legal limit so as of the moment all they can tag him on is the speeding(based on what has been reported).

I dont think the Commish will impose any additional penalty other than to warn him to keep his nose clean from here on out or it gets bumped to a 1 year "Pac-Man" suspension.

Well to follow up on my previous post....

I just read on SI.com that they can still tag Tank with a DUI if there are extenuating circumstances(ie he was falling down drunk, slurring words, etc), but unless they can say he was definately drunk, I can not see them pursuing it past a fine for speeding. if they do pursue it it will be more like a witch hunt becuase of his past trouble.

ESPN made a good point on this. Tank Johnson WILL be signed by an NFL team, it might be but a few days before opening day games, but he will be signed because it is never a bad idea to have someone ready to come in and play those final 8 games if your #1 gets injured. Tank is a solid prospect, yeah he is a retard, but there are teams that will be willing to risk it if they have the chance to get reassurance in case of an injury.

I sure don't want to see him in a Chargers uniform, but he will be signed by someone.

That's a big fly in the ointment.

That's an interesting point that i am sure the players union will argue...(maybe not???)

It just seems like a double jeopardy situation that unfairly punishes him twice.
Due to the politics of nfl, i cant see any team (other than an obvious bottom of the cellar team) allowing him to take up a player's spot on the roster, just to get his services.

Could you imagine the Chargers signing him (at a greatly reduced rate) and then allocating him to the practice squad as a "place holder".

He messed up and got punished, but i am not sure this situation is truly fair.

He's not eligilbe for a practice squad slot.

And how can the player's union argue it? How can you be "suspended" for any games if you're not a member of a team?

That's another reason why Kiel has not likely been picked up yet. He hasn't been "disciplined" for his felony plea because he's not a member of a roster. If and when somebody signs Kiel, look for him to immediately make a trip to NYC and get suspended.

Lesson to NFL players: don't get involved in felonious activities - and when you're on double secret probation "zero tolerance" with your current team, don't have a few drinks, grab the keys and decide to drive home at 3:30 AM.

Tank had multiple chances - he screwed up and deserves everything he gets. At some point, a team will get desperate and sign him. Thankfully it won't be the Bolts.

Here's something to ponder. Are "Tanks" their real names? Why would their parents name them that as babies? What if they grew up to be little frail, dorks or something? Not that there's anything against dorks, but the name "Tank" refers to someone who is big and built. Babies are big and built? Kind of weird, I don't know.

We gave Tank every chance, he stated to the media that his goal was to become NFL man of the year. The Bears brass believed him and took his word at face value. Tank then broke his word, by doing so he made the organization look like fools.

I'm glad he's gone.
