CALDWELL CUT BY PATS
The New England Patriots (http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm#) have released receiver Reche Caldwell (http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/reiss_pieces/2007/09/caldwell_cut.html), according to Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe.
Caldwell started in 14 regular-season games for the Pats in 2006. He had the most receptions on the team with 61, and the most receiving yards with 760. He tied with Troy Brown for the most receiving touchdowns, with four.
The move leaves the Pats with five receivers on the roster, and should help to quiet rumors that Randy Moss is in danger of being dumped or traded.
An industry source told us earlier in the day of rumors that the Pats had been putting out the word that any of their receivers, with the exception of Wes Welker, were available via trade.
We assume that Caldwell was surprised by the news. But, then again, it would be hard to distinguish such an expression from his normal, non-surprised demeanor.

I actually believe moss will have a break out year for them.. as much as i hate the Pats, i aint gonna lie they look good in the WR position with moss, stallworth and welker in the slot, and not to mention having brady dont hurt at all...

I totally agree. I said it in another post, and I'll say it in this one; Brady doesn't need GOOD recievers to be successful and his WRs aren't chumps this year.

It would be interesting to know how valid the bolded statement is which means that their "experiment" wasnt all that successful. The media threw loads of roses and heeped high praise at.

All appearances would suggest that Moss will play football for the Patriots.
I'm still a little pessimistic about Moss, but, what the hay, Columbus took a chance.

Anyhow, I'm not saying this to be rude or as one of those internet retorts that attacks your grammar (it's the ex-editor in me), I don't think you meant to use "prolific" in that sentence. Prolific would imply that he continuously produced a series of failures. Just a heads-up.

They'll be just like the raiders and redskins have been - for the last two years all the pundits said the raiders and redskins won the free agent period and would be way better - how did it work out? It's going to be the same way for the Patriots. I think they'll win that division but they won't get 14 wins - no way. At the end of the season, they'll be looking to re-load that aging defense and replace those one year wonders - Stallworth and Moss.

The Chargers had a WR named Sweeney back about 10 years ago. I forget his first name. He got the same good luck (loser) treatment after the Chargers let him go. Pittsburg picked him up for nothing and he excelled there. Very much so.
Sometimes a change of scenery, team, city, changes a castoff into a respected player (by all).
It happens.
Caldwell might find his niche again. The chemistry of change.

Ouch!!!!Even that play reminded me of when he was a Charger in that he did not have great field awareness. He should have scored on that play but didn't realise how close he was to the sideline. How many times did he do something similar here??

You might be right, maybe it was Thigpen. Didn't the Chargers also let go a Charger WR named Sweeney who was so-so with the Chargers and excelled with Pittsburg? That was back in 95-98. I believe so.
Anyways...my point was, that a so-so player can break out and be semi-stellar with a change of zipcode, among other factors.
A player bounces around, untill he's out. This is also a fact.

Yes, kind of a surprising cut in the context of the rest of their WR's. Unless the Pats are sandbagging with Moss, he is up to the same-old-same-old which means he won't be a factor.
Maybe Reche wasn't working hard ...

man i rember wes walker was trying out with us and we cut him he was doing good bad move. You're only semi correct. They have to cut a player to put him on the Practice team. They wanted to put him on the practice team and keep him. He was offered the same thing by the Dolphins and he was mad at Marty for not putting him on the team. Actually, Marty didn't have a choice because of our salary cap situation at the time but Wes didn't understand that and left in a huff. One more point - if you look up the stats Wes has produced with the Dolphins he hasn't actually been as good as it looked like he was going to be.

oh i like u thats a proffesional way to put it I stand corrected, but i always see hype about him being speedy like tim dwight and his numbers looked solid last year heck he even kicked a 29yarder he was a good return man too.
