I like the addition, but wonder if we couldn't have bargained to give away less than a 4th round pick. This move reeks of desperation.

“Teams are going to really have to now choose if they want to play eight men in the box and leave those guys one-on-one,” Tomlinson said. “He’s going to take the pressure off a lot of us on this offense. In the famous words of (Terrell Owens), ‘get your popcorn ready.’”

yeah its like going out and getting that one last missing piece of the puzzle and at a position of need which makes the team hopefully better.
equating it to baseball it would be like the Pads in going out and getting a much needed bat. But Moores didnt and AJ did.

I think it is absolutely about the confidence in the team. Why make such a move for a team that is not going anywhere? I think we are on the rise. This is a very promising situation.

i mean...it's a move that shows the sd players they think we're still a worthy playoff contender
or else they wouldn't risk a #2 2008 draft pick
chambers was a #2 pick himself, so essentially we just drafted a #1 wr 7 months early.
the things being said about chambers downside, are actually LESS than what was being said about moss before joining NE, and he's turned his problems around , hopefully chambers can turn whatever defficient problems he had, around in sd
chargers could have just went out and signed freddie mitchell or someone with parker going on the IR, but they put their balls out there and parted with a #2 for someone better than any current wr they have....no real reason to not like this move, unless you have proof somehow that we could have traded the same 2nd rounder for torry holt or someone better than chambers.

He sometimes lets the ball into his body, however he can stretch the field, and can make the hard catches. Will be an upgrade to what you have now at WR. Best of luck the rest of the way.

This is the best move we could've done right now other than looking for secondary help. I'm likening this to the Phoenix Suns in that they're looking to play faster and faster each year, and our D (in comparison) is nowhere near as leaky as theirs, I believe our Offense will score alot more than the other teams' now. We could very well be a step below NE now instead of a whole "tier"

Isn't this a "free" 4th round pick we get from KC as compensation
for Edwards? So we get something for Donnie anyway,
a veteran receiver.

After that ridiculous umpire/player arguement, injured by coach event. Was the big loss.
But, they still could use a big bat.

TO had the most drops last season and he still was a pro-bowler and a top 5-10 WR.
Drops are never good, but as long as they are not drop/tipped into interceptions or he doesn't drop it after the catch for a fumble, then the great play/experience he will bring will far outweigh a few drops.

T.O and every 1st string receiver in the NFL out there drop passes....
The question is...How frequent and the way the ball was thrown to and defended against....
As far as the Chambers trade, it is nothing but good....He is proven, relative young, not injury prone, and bring in competition for the underachieving VJ, Floyd, and Davis....Oh did I mention the guy can catch and had a pro bowl year too?
It is funny sometimes when people tend to criticize for the sake's of an argument...What? We want 'Fins to give us a quality proven receiver for nothing? This trade may work out for both if not for the Chargers at the moment...
Change of scenary usually work out well for these guys...Kmac, Moss, TO., etc...Especially when one coming in to a team that has plenty of leadership and talented...
We just have to wait and see...However, so far so good....

Yup....The Pats also were so desperated to get Moss and his previous garbage (Was a big risk even for a 4th round), castoff Donte Stallworth...Not to mention they were sooooo desperated in the past to get another group of "castoffs" such as Rodney, Vrabel, and Seau....
Desperate or not, now all the defensive coordinators gonna have to work overtime when their team face the Chargers...."Hack-a-LT" is not going to work so well now, isn't it?

\:Bolt::Helmet::Bolt:This is another Bold Move by A.J.; We are out to win now; remenber Chambers is signed for the next 3 seasons, and draft picks dont always pan out; you have a pro bowl caliber player for that 2nd round pick; We have most of our core players signed through the 2009-2011 season and they are still very young overall; Chambers is listed at 5'11 but he looks and plays much bigger than that; I have been a critic of Vincent Jackson because of the way he goes after and catches the ball, cradling it with his body rather going up and snatching it with his hands; Chambers has excellent receiving skills and can make the highlight grabs CONSISTANTLY;Rivers will benifit enourmously because I dont think he ever felt comfortable with the WR he had. Dont think for a second the Pats and Colts didnt take serious notice to this deal and it will now make us a serious player again for the Lombardi; Kudos to A.J. to stay aggessive to win NOW.

I think the Chargers did well in making this trade happen. L.T. has expressed that he is at the peak of his game, and doesn't like having to rebuild, and rebuild, and rebuild. When Marty got canned his heart sunk into his stomach because he feared the Chargers would be back peddling to get everyone on the same page again. Let's face it he want's to win, and not just games. He wants to be remembered by championships, and not records. Chambers has proven he can produce in the past and needs to be inspired like Randy has been in New England. No disrepect to Parker, but he is at best a posession receiver. He has a hard time finding the enzone. Chambers was once a probowler, unlike Parker, Floyd, Davis, and Jackson. I know fans are skeptical because we went through a similar situation with Mccardell last year, but let's face it we needed a more balanced attacked instead of this 2 pronged deal. I know someone blogged about our defenese, and secondary, but if you can score or eat up the posession clock it 's hard for an opponent to score went they don't have the ball. I applaud the chargers for trying...it's better than waiting and hoping. Let's do something. You'll be amazed how hard someone works when they think they have a shot. Why do you think Seau, and Moss are in New England? Seau was gitty when they put him in on offense to block on a fake play. The Steelers went 1-4 when they won there superbowl with Big Ben. The main focus should be managing Rivers, let L.T. run the ball 30-40 times a game, limit Rivers to 20-30 passes without turnovers, have the defense bend but not break and see if they can continue to force their own turnovers.

It just might be floyd. Osgood is a fan favorite you see him everywhere the locals love this guy.Plus he plays alot of special teams.Bringing in chambers speaks volume and says that this teams staff feels the same way we do as fans about the WRS.

I think this is a move that had to happen. The teams that have won against us this season have shown the rest of the NFL how to beat us. All they have to do is stack the box. Sure, Philip can keep throwing to Gates but that will only work against 60 to 70 percent of the teams in this league. Having an experienced and talented wide reciever is going to win us at least two more games this season. I think this team will now go 11-5 or 10-6. Its an aggressive move by the front office and it shows they are serious about winning now.

huh 4th? we gave up a 2nd for chambers
You're right. My bad. Don't know where I got 4th from, lol.
Anyway, a 2nd for Chambers is a very good deal. How many
picks next year even have a shot at making this team unless they
are so head and shoulders above what's on our roster now that
they can't miss. Having all our picks this past draft make the
roster was pretty much un-precedented.
Chambers will not only shine for the Bolts, but his experience,
work-ethic, and knowledge(especially of NE) will be a
boost and a blessing for our young receivers.
Buster will really gain from having Chris around.

naw, probably chamber parker jackson davis floid with some new safety or corner, like weedle, the WR possition is quite stacked right now, all those young guys have potential, they just need a vet to show them the rope, strangely enough, i think next year the charger will probably have one of the top passing game in the league. I think all the young WR on this team has great potential, they just need to exploit it.

I didnt mean he is prone to injury.
I just mean he is important for the success of the team, like Milton Bradley could have been if he was not injured. Probably would have been 1 more Padres victory in the regular season and the Rockies, never get to the playoff game that they won in extra innings off Trevor.
That why I was like I seriously hope Chambers stays healthy.

We gave 4 Picks for Weddle, so a single 2nd round pick for a proven pro bowl WR seems very reasonable. We gave the 2nd and the 4 for Weddle for the reason the gentleman stated earlier. Most of your draftable picks wont make the team.

the great thing now, is that the only real need now is a star DB. the MLB's will do, but an awesome saftey or corner is it, and we are a COMPLETE team. maybe to make sure we keep our line depth secure too, but other than that it the future seems bright.
