Yeah right. Maybe if I was taking my Durango, but I just may drive the Porsche. Now wut!LOL:crazy:
On second thought, naaay. Driving that car would be killer on my lower back. Not too mention I don't want to put unnecessary excessive miles on the engine. Tune-up costs on that car are a wallet killer :(

Can somebody explain how the whole San Jose Covention thing works?
It's a autograph show that is being promoted by GTSM in San Jose ( it's all on the first page of this thread ). People pay to attend the show, 10.00 for adults, and basically you pay for the atheletes who you want to sign your items. If you do not have anything to have signed you can pick up something at a sports store or there at the convention center.
Tickets can be purchased in advance, which I recommend as prices at the door could go up. The prices vary for the type of item that you wish to have signed. Some players have a single price for any item that you want signed. Other players, the better known players, have a set price for mini helmets, fotos, jerseys and balls.
That would be the concise version, hope that explains things for you.

Cool I wont be going until Sunday though... If I went to the other days like you and MB I would be broke like a son of a bisket... cuz I wanted to get Fouts, Winslow, and Joiner but I'm already pushin' $1000 just for LT and Cro on Sunday so there's now way I could do anymore... ya know... but I do hope to see some of you guys up there on Sunday... see ya then
I wanted to get a few more things signed myself, but I really need to control myself. My wife is real cool, but sometimes I don't know when to stop spending.............it's like I have to have everybody at once.
We spent a week in Az. getting auto's so you think I would be happy with that............but nooooooooooo.........I have to get every NFL player this year to be happy! As I'm sure many will attest to, this hobby is very addicting and you can sometimes go overboard in your quest to attain auto's.
Xtra - Man you get some great stuff thru the mail. I'm going to try to get Kurt Warner thru the mail. I was able to have a foto with him and get some things signed during the NFL Exp. I'd like to have him signed the foto along with an 8x10. I would appreciate any suggestions you might have as far as how to send to better my chance of getting it signed.

Warner doesn't sign personal items through the mail. He sends your stuff back unsigned along with his own presigned religious card. Can't tell if it's real or autopen though.

I know xtra shows alot of his TTM success so i figure i would show you guys my most reason one i recieved yesterday.. I do alot of TTM sigs because i'm a college student and shows become exspensive as we can see. I do mostly jeresys, minis, and alot of photos.. But here is my Larry Johnson Chiefs Jersey he signed for me...
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c212/colt27/LarryJohnson5.jpg
So whats your hit ratio when sending jerseys out? Id imagine you would lose quite a few with players who dont reply? I used to send cards through the mail when I was a kid and I think Id have a hit ratio of about 50% Looks like you sent a non silk screened one too. Thats brave!
ScootMagroot
02-21-2008, 02:14 PM
Acutally my Hit ratio for Jersey is 100%. I've sent alot out recently too and haven't lost one. I manly just pick up Authentic look alikes off ebay so i'm not looseing out to bad. I just received my 75th aniversery steelers jersey signed by Hines Ward and he decked it out with inscriptions.. But i just dont send out to random players. I only send jerseys to players that are known for signing through the mail. As for minis i have a 90% hit ration only lost one. But i recently got my Dan Fouts back and it turn out so great but thats the downfall you get for being free.. He placed the bubble wrap on the sig as soon as he got done signing so it smudeged bad.. Trying to find a way to remove it..
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c212/colt27/FoutsMIni.jpg
hey when you send out a jersey, what do you send it in? a bag type envelope, or box or what? im thinking of sending one out to a couple guys.

colt27,
Thats awsome you send out items for signiatures. How many things have you sent out to be signed? What is the downtime?
When the player returns an item do they just put "return to sender" on the envelope? should that be included in the letter that we send out along with the item to be signed? I would love to send some items out to be signed. On the first page there of this forum there is a web page with teams and addresses to send stuff too. Do you recoment sending the stuff to those addresses? I think it would be exciting coming home from school and see a pakage with an autograph in it :)

Hate to say it, but Larry Johnson is known to have a ghost signer... Not saying yours is a ghost signed one, but do some research and comparison to check it out.
Also, in case anyone was getting into it, the best thing to do for jerseys is to get jersey numbers which are only like 10 bucks and send those out. PM if you wanna know where to get jersey numbers...

Hey, guys. Need a little bit of advice here. I'm sending a football through the mail to get signed, and I was wondering what the best strategy was to do so. I've already gotten the approval of the player, so that's not the problem. I need to know what type of pen to throw in the box, and what kind of box to send it it. My original plan was to send it in a box, with return labels, packaging tape, and postage packed inside with the ball and a silver sharpie. This way, when the ball is signed, he can just throw the ball back into the box, attach the corresponding labels and postage, and seal it back up for shipment, any other pieces of advice?
that sounds like a decent plan. i would either use the sharpie, or get one of the deco pain pens. who is the player?

I like using a motorcycle helmet bag. Arai, Suomy & AGV helmets all come with a free bag, but universal bags are available. Just visit your local Motorcycle dealer. They all have in-house accessory departments and the bags can be bought for under $10

Just caught a portion of Seau's interview with Scott and BR this morning and he was talking about his legends party on March 8th at his restaurant. Anyone going? Some notables he mentioned that are going:
Adalius Thoman (he called him Adalius Tomlinson lol)
Rodney Harrison
Jason Taylor
Ronnie Lott
Marcus Allen
Marshall Faulk
and more but I only caught a portion of his interview. I remember a several posts ago someone mentioned that standing outside would be a better way to land sigs. Thoughts? If anyone has a list of the attendees too, mind posting it?

So I'm thinking about ordering some 8x10s from Ballen for mini-camp/off season golf/etc. Which of these players do you think will make the squad for sure next season:
Ryon Bingham
Scott Chandler
Jeromey Clary
Cletis Gordon
Steve Gregory
Brandon Manumaleuna
Brandon McKinney
Legedu Naanee
Brandon Siler
Anthony Waters
Cory Withrow
Jacques Casaire
id say the bolded ones are locks, depending on how we draft the rest are hard to say, but AJ is on record saying we will not draft a kicker, punter or TE

I went to the GTS autograph signing in San Jose today. LT seemed like he was not in a good mood, sunglasses on, not really accomidating pictures, but I did get a nice autograph on a helmet. Cro seemed in a much better mood - smiling, laughing, posing for a few quick pics. I got Cro to autgraph a ball and he wrote "109 YD TD Return" on it. The guy in front of me had him write "It's Crime Time" on a ball. Cro had some SERIOUS bling bling on - one watch and a matching braclet that were both silver/diamond and looking like they cost my yearly salary!!! Overall it was really expensive and if I wasn't local I probably wouldn't do it. (note - I'm not a huge autograph collector)

I stopped by Seau's this weekend, and they gave me a list of players that are EXPECTED to attend next weekend's golf tournament and Legends Party. The bigger (or more interesting names) on the list are:
Marshall Faulk
Phil Nevin
Deacon Jones
Warren Moon
Jason Taylor
Sterling Sharpe
Marcus Allen
Adalius Thomas
Spud Webb
Ronnie Lott
Jonathan Ogden
Lorenzo Neal
Christian Okoye
Natrone MEans
Jay Fiedler
John Carney
John Lynch
Mike Scifres
Seth Joyner
Greg Lloyd
LaRoi Glover
Vencie Glenn
Dave Stewart
Rod Martin
Eric Dickerson
Willie Buchanon
Randy Jones
Tom Flores
Darren Bennett
Mike Martz
Ron Mix
Hank Bauer
Rolf Benirschke
Ben Leber
Rick Mirer
There's a lot more names on the list; I just mentioned the bigger ones.
I don't know which players will be at the Legends Party, but I got Warren Moon, Jason Taylor, Junior Seau, Zach Thomas, and Eric Dickerson at the party 3 years ago. They all signed while walking down the red carpet on the way in or while bartending inside. I'll have my usual stash of 8x10's, magazines, football cards, and 3x5 cardsready to go!!

During the Photo Op, LT was actually pretty cool. He smiled and even greeted me and my family very warmly. Shook my hand, my wife's hand, and even my 1yr old son's hand. Obviously, during the signing session he did look a bit more serious. One picture I saw was great where everyone in the pic, including LT did his "teardrop" :layup . That picture was hilarious and I commend the people in the picture for that one!
Cromartie also was very warm during our photo op. I had to have a toddler jersey custom ordered with 31 on it. Unfortunately it couldn't fit "Cromartie" so I just put my son's name. Cro mentioned it was nice to see a baby 31 jersey to us and he also seemed very welcoming and to be enjoying the opportunity to meet and greet some of his fans. My wife said she felt Cromartie was a bit more welcoming than LT was as well.
Overall it was a fun outing. Living out in San Francisco for the past few years away from SD makes it hard for me to attend any Chargers related events. It was nice to see that a LT / Cromartie signing was just an hour or so south of me so we were there. I got a few jerseys signed, 8x10s, and a helmet by Cro. My only downside was I got a black stain on my 3 on my Cromartie Jersey. I happened with my stroller's tires hitting the bag and eating thru the first and second bag. It was my fault so I cannot be too upset. Hopefully I can either get it cleaned or have the 3 re-stitched.

Marshall Faulk is just as rude when people are showing their admiration by spending their hard-earned money on his freaking signature on a picture? What a piece of garbage. He can keep his crappy signature.

GTSM report--
Friday--(montana & rice)checked in and got my tix...Hardly anyone in attendance...Plenty of time to wrap with the players---I got a chance to talk to Montana for more than a few minutes--he inscribed my helmet for free with everything except 2x nfl mvp...Jerry rice was cool as well...both sigs on a niner throwback
Saturday--Busy day--(Emmitt Smith, pat willis, fouts, joiner, winslow, dean)
Emmitt was the highlight...the pen he used to sign my helmet was messed up so he had gtsm replace my helmet with a brand new one...i ended up with two signed cowboys helmets!!! got a chargers hof'er helmet, fouts custom, and pat willis on my niners current...
Sunday---crazy hectic-(lt, cro, sayers, gore) Just like what everybody said about LT...the wall was up bigtime...bad mood for sure...cro was very cool and he gave props to my schutt i made custom for him...sayers was cool.....gore was in a bad mood as well.....overall fine and i'm glad i took a friend to watch my stuff because their were thieves cruising the joint...
overall--fun time but the downtown area of san jose can eat my shorts...that place sucks!! dirty, thugged out and azz backwards!! LOUSY PLACE to hold an event like this...GLAD TO BE HOME in SD!!!!!
BIG Thanks to MB for the long haul...thanks to Fouts14 for the tick (great meeting you two) and thanks to gtsm/E.Smith for kicking down the proline!!! Put it in Vegas next year or else i would never go again! Pictures later

The san jose show was pretty cool. well, the autograph memorabillia i got anyways.
my girl always hears these good things about how LT helps the community and how hes a good player, but her first impression of him was that he was rude and "lame". one thing that i did like was that when he came in to the photo op i yelled out "whats up LT?" and he gave me the mexican hellow (for those do dont know, its the head tilt back motion.) other than that, he was in a bad mood. i went to get my auto and i was so excited and he kinda just brushed me off.
Dear LT: dude, LT, man, buddy, these people are spending a grip of money on your auto, the least you can do is pretend you care.
i had to save up to get his autograph and he does that crap. i didnt like that. on the other hand, cromartie was cool. the first thing my girl noticed was his bling bling. he was really nice. over all i had a ok time.

Disappointed but not surprised to hear that two of the greatest RBs in San Diego history are also two of the worst attitudes. I guess I can understand how millions and millions of dollars as well as the admiration of fans all over the world can getchya down. Sounds like Faulk's initials MF fit him perfect.

I remember in LT's second year in the league he had a free signing with Jammer and a bunch of other DBs at Fashion Valley. I was lucky to be one of the first 25 people to be in line because LT only stayed for about 15 minutes. I shook his hand said hello and he was friendly. I asked if I could take a pix with him and he looked over at his wife and then looked back at me and said, "sorry man, shes the boss". Disappointed but still lhe eft an overall good impression with me. I guess several more years of being in the spotlight can change ppl.

Drew Brees was better than LT
I liked Cro tho
I had him sign the front of my jersey on accident and i asked him if he would sign the back and he went sure signed it. blew on it and then said now watch that jersey and shook my hand!!!

THE BAD:
-Well..... My backpack was stolen on Saturday with my clothes for Sunday and my auto tix for Sunday.
-Disheartening that THE SDSU Aztec didn't care about anyone. I mean I even pulled names out of people I worked with who he knows well... didn't even react.
-They opened the doors like an hour late on Saturday
-Cro signed one of my pics with a dried out pen and the lady from GTSM didn't care and told me that it wasnt HER fault that he signed with a dried pen. Cro would have signed it again if he noticed how bad it was...
-Lt was grumpy... I even playfully trash talked with him that SDSU is the better Mtn West Conf school than TCU and he just nodded and looked past me to the next person.
THE GOOD:
-Fouts was awesome. I didn't even purchase an auto but I was there to take my buddy's pic and he still talked it up with me when I told him Ed White belongs in the HOF.
-Charlie Joiner took at least 30 secs-1 minute to sign each item (as opposed to LTs 5 secs). He added an "Air Coryell" inscription and the HOF inscription for free. I told him that Kassim needs more receptions and he smiled and said "I'm workin on it."
-The sigs turned out great overall!
-The promoter who helped bring Cro in seemed like he wanted to help me about the dried out sig. Hopefully he comes through if and when he does a private Cro signing.
-The male counterpart to the rude GTSM lady sold me all of my stolen tix for less than 50% off so they wouldnt lose money if the person who stole them tried to use them.
-Seeing everyone from the board!
Here's my pics:

The more I have thought about the LT signing, the more upset I have become. I'm sorry everyone else experienced the same thing about LTs mood. I'm guessing the guy had a all-expenses one day paid trip to the Bay Area for about 25-30k. I really can't excuse his bad attitude. I can't even imagine how I would feel if I could have a gig like that, the least he could do is smile. At $190 an auto and $90 an inscription it's not like we're there to "make money off him" as he may feel. If you check out eBay his authenticated stuff goes for unfortuantely that same amount or often lower. We were there b/c we saved up our money to see one of our idols. A lot of the negativity I see about LT in the media that I have ignored is starting to make more sense now :(

Here are some fotos from the show. I would have to say that I had a great time at the show. I met Fouts14 and his lovely lady, they also hipped us to a fantastic Restuarant in S.F. where we spent the evening dining and drinking. You know how people always say,"Oh you gotta try this Place or go here", only to find out it was horrible!.............well they were right! It was Great!!! Thx Mike!
We also met a couple from Sacramento, they were there to get autos of their Cowboys, Emmitt,Witten and Romo. It was cool cause as we got to sitting and talking to them we traded watching each others items so we did not have to lug eveything around. He turned out to be a C.O. and she was also a Peace Officer.
I always have a good time at these Shows, and as Xtra said earlier, you have to keep things in perspective, you were able to get that certain item signed that you always wanted. Them showing up with a good attitude just makes it that much better. As others say, I'm not expecting to exhange Phone #s and e-mail addresses with them, but Crap!.........they can atleast be cordial with you.....that's just being respectful..............anyways here are the fotos.

Classic, what a look of discuss on his face. He asked me where I would like his sig on the jersey, I said, going along the side of the two if you don't mind. I did not say it in a nasty tone, and he goes,"Hey it your jersey". I liked to crap my pants.
I have been a Rams Fan for years and could not wait for the opportunity to meet him, and this it what happens. This is when fans loose the luv for these guys. In my opinion, Steve Young was the Best by far. As mentioned earlier in this thread, he was out there with the people signing and posing for fotos. I will definitely get him next time on my HOF helmet. All fours HOFers that signed my Helmet were class people, and very gracious.

My experience with LT wasn't as bad... although he was moody when I was watching him sign people's stuff, I think it was different when you actually initiate the conversation. My girl was right behind me to get her football signed and she was able to make him laugh.
I read earlier that somebody was joking with him that their college was better than TCU, I don't think that was a good idea, I mean if he was already talking to you and laughing, then you can throw it in there... but since he was just sitting there already looking moody, how would he find that comment funny?
I only went on sunday and it looked like most people were there for LT. Everything went well. Although there was this incident, it was kind of funny. Me and my girl was done walking around and we decided to just wait for LT near the autograph area. As we were walking passed this one table full of Charger fans (maybe some from this forum) one of the girls that were sitting tilted some of the chairs towards the table, I guess to tell us that the chairs were taken. It was kind of funny though cuz that girl was staring my girl down as we passed... haha. We had no interest in those chairs so to us it was like, "Wowww... it's serious here." haha. Even though it was kind of rude to stare somebody down for some chairs that my girl and I never even thought about, it was kind of funny. We understand, but "Wow". haha.
Anybody get their signed stuff authenticated? I got mine by PSA DNA... I only got carried away with it cuz I don't think I need it, since I'm not planning on selling it, so... waste of money on my part.

PROVA is the authentication company owned by Emmitt Smith. It came included with any Smith, Aikman, Romo & Faulk autographs. But could also be purchased seperately for any other athlete for an additional $10.

I was joking with LT like I have done in the past.
He and Kassim have been at SDSU vs TCU football games and have friendly rivalries. I have joked with him at those games and he has joked back with me.
The big joke is that SDSU's football team is GOD AWFUL. It's funny that anyone would even think that. I have gotten huge laughs from players like Igor when i ask him why their college (in his case University of Oregon) is afraid to schedule SDSU.
I guess you just gotta know college football to understand it...

Sorry, I didn't remember everything about your post, that's why I had said "I read earlier." I just remembered somebody joking college football, but just didn't want to back track to see which college since I had remembered it in the middle of my paragraph. Good joke... bad timing. You gotta figure about every other fan there probably tried to throw their own jokes at him. Probably had enough. Not defending him, but this is just what I think, based on my experience. I knew every fan was gonna try to stand out and try to say something witty, I think that's just how we are. I just kept it simple though, I think that was better.

Dont get me wrong I love LT, on the field he is the greatest asset a team can hope for, however all the talk about players agents making them go or whatever is BS. Its completly up to LT to sign his gtsm contract, he doesn't need the money, he is willingly there, he could have canceled as did reggie bush and others, he was there because he wanted to be there, so for him to go and then be a jerk to his fans who are paying for his auto is just wrong. And the idea that you're paying for the auto and if they happen to be in a good mood is extra is also BS, if you just wanted the auto you could go buy it from a shop, people are going out of their way flying or driving to san jose, buying items, paying for the auto, because they want to meet the player and get the auto in person, they dont have to be leaving the outgoing message on cell phones, they could have common courtesy that you generally give a stranger in any situation tho.
Also, as far as the authenticating, I'm not sure about this, MB or some of the other more experienced guys would probably know, but even if you're not planning on selling it wouldn't you need it authenticated for insurance purposes? If not then I have a feeling my car is about to get broken into and all 400 autographed walter payton jerseys are about to get stolen. Thats a joke stupid people who take things too seriosly, I'd say who I mean but IDntNameNames.
************************************************** ****
Fellow collectors,
I think the authentication issue is interesting. I've been collecting autos seriously for about 10 years now, and I always get them authenticated whenever possible. Most of my collection I have no intention of ever selling, but occasionally I like to trade for other items, or even sell some items to free up money to buy other things. Authenticated items will almost always command higher prices than non-authenticated items. I realize that there are some die-hards out there that think authentication is ridiculous and would never sell anything in their collection, but is it really? I mean, we collect memorabilia and autographs much like others collect fine art and expensive antiques. I consider my sports memorabilia my passion, but in actuality it is also part of my overall assets. As none of us are infallible to losing jobs or running into financial difficulty, I think it's somewhat comforting knowing that I at least have these items around that I could liquidate if I needed to. So, why would we sell ourselves short by not getting things authenticated when the opportunity presents itself knowing that it adds value to our items? I’ve paid a lot of money for many of my pieces. So, I want them to hold their value as much as possible, and authentication helps me accomplish that.
In general, all the holograms and stickers add is an added sense of security for someone looking to purchase the item second-hand. Some people say that a good collector knows the autographs they collect and shouldn't need any hologram to tell them that the item is real. But, I remember reading an interview several years ago in which Ted Williams (when he was still alive) stated that forgers had gotten so good at signing his autograph on memorabilia that even he couldn't tell the difference between his real autograph and a fake! Personally, I also kind of like the holograms and stickers on some of my items – especially 8x10s. I think it adds to the overall aesthetic appeal.
Finally, as much as I love my collection and cherish it every day, it would be foolish to think that I will live forever to appreciate it. One thing I know for sure is that my wife definitely does NOT share my passion for collecting sports memorabilia. She loves my collection about as much as I love her Celine Dion and Enya cd collection! I also don't have any kids just yet to pass my collection down to. So, knowing that my wife or my family would likely sell a good part of my collection in the event I passed, I would definitely want them to get as much as they could for my items if they liquidated them.
Anyway, sorry for the long post, but I think this debate on authenticating items is a very interesting one. I just saw some posts from people who seemed to be against authentication and thought I would add my two cents on the pros of getting it done. No opinion is right or wrong - it just is what it is!

speaking of authentication.....at the GT show was LT putting the stickers on? and was it automatic that his autos were getting one, or did you have to pay extra for his hologram?

I like the idea of having memorbilia authenticated, but only when done by a reputible company. Steiner Sports, PSA/DNA, GAI, Mounted Memories & Upper Deck are all on top of this field. The personal holograms are a nice touch as it shows that atleast the athlete has given it their "stamp" of approval/authentication.
Having an item with multiple authentications makes the item even more full proof, as it shows the autograph has past numerous verifications as opposed to just a single approval.

the players at the GTSM Show whom have Holo's, had personnel with them waiting after the player signed they would ask if you want the Holo on your Item... which really isn't an Authentication of any kind because over 90% of my LT signed Items don't have the LT Holo on it but I know that LT signed it and they all have PSA/DNA on them though... because I'm one that knows I wont live forever and that my wife, who also hates my Memorbillia Collection, would have it to liquidate of to leave to my kids which ever they prefer... so I too would say that I'm a true believer in Authentications, but you have to get a good one (i.e. PSA/DNA)
Agreed with - 100%! Not all authentications are created equal. A COA or LOA to me is pretty much worthless unless there is an accompanying tamper-proof matching hologram or sitcker with a serial number on it affixed to the item itself. Or, unless the LOA or COA has photos of the item showing easily identifiable characteristics of the item itself, such as ball marks or grass stains on game used items, like PSA/DNA and Grey Flannel provide.
Case in point - the recent Antonio Gates signing at Horton Plaza back in December. I purchased the $7 COAs for the 3 items I had signed thinking that this company would realize they were in the 21st century and would have matching holograms or stickers with them. Not only was this one of the absolute worst-organized signings I have ever been to, but when I was finished getting my items signed I realized that there was nothing additional to it; only the paper certs that I was given. To me this was definitely $21 worth of certs that was wasted!
One recent trend that I do like is that there are a lot of players now providing their own tamper-proof holograms on their items in top of whatever else is provided. I'm happy to see players taking strides to ensure that the market does have authentic signed items available, although I'm not particularly thrilled at some of the prices that are being charged for their autographs. That is a separate discussion all together.
And, I'm happy to see that I'm not the only collector in the world with a marital unit who is not particularly happy with my addiction for collecting autographs and sports memorabilia! Hats off to all of you who go about your passion everyday while receiving an earful from the spouse when you get home. You make the world a better place!

I collect autographed Topps cards of Chargers players, and have a pretty extensive collection. I am in need of obtaining signed Topps cards of a handful of guys from the 1990s - Wayne Walker, Leslie O'Neal, Ronnie Harmon, Marion Butts, Nate Lewis, Courtney Hall and Gill Byrd.
If anyone has any of these, please send me a PM. I can then tell you which specific cards that I need. I am happy to trade and/or purchase them. I will make it worth your time!

Just thought that I would post some of my picture's from the GTSM Show in San Jose...
I got my daughter with Cro and the Family with LT... I got both to sign a ball for me
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee246/boltpride619/01.jpg
and I got my Schutt Helmet and my 2008 Pro Bowl Jersey signed... I had him Inscribe "Back to Back Rushing Titles"
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee246/boltpride619/02.jpg
I like the Ball that Cro signed for you. I wasn't sure what to get him on so I passed hoping I might get him at Fanfest. The PB Jersey is very sweet, the sig came out very nice.
If I might make a suggestion, and this is only with Prova, you might want to have the sticker placed on the inside of the collar. When I got Emmitt, LT and Faulk thats where I put them. Just so as not to make the # to busy with all the stickers. The Holograms are fine, but their Prova Sticker is huge.

I'm with you on that... those were the season before this helmet to me that is worthless... but I'm hardcore on what I get signed also... heck I was lucky to get the Ball in time for the GTSM show that LT signed it has Tagliabue for the Commissioner and the fact that it is an Authentic On The Field Ball made it right for me to have LT sign and add "2006 MVP" (even though I asked for "2006 NFL MVP") it just wouldn't of been the same with Goodell for the Commissioner on the ball seeing that Tagliabue was the Commissioner, so I used the Goodell ball for Cro
If you check the pics of LT hoisting the ball in the air, after he beat the record, the ball had Goodell's signature on the ball. Maybe I misunderstood your post, but when LT beat the record in '06, Goodell's signature was on that ball. Was Tagliabue the commissioner regardless of Goodell's sig on the ball?
edit:
From Wikipedia:
Goodell was chosen on August 8, 2006, to succeed Paul Tagliabue and assumed office on September 1—the date Tagliabue set to leave office.

I went to a football signing convention in San Jose this past weekend. LT and Cromartie among other football players were there signing autographs and taking photos. (of course you had to pay for both) but it was still alot of fund and both Cro and LT were very nice.
LT was nice and very quiet but still pretty cool for fans. :21:
Cromartie was also very nice and happy to do his one handed INT pose for fans.:helmet

I've had good success at the party in years past (Taylor and Moon signed quite a bit), so it'll be woth the trip if I can get at least one of 'em signed. I bought it on www.nflauction.nfl.com (http://www.nflauction.nfl.com/) last year for $4800. Just a few weeks ago, they also had game worn jerseys & pants for Tomlinson, Gates, Rivers & Merriman. The pants don't fetch too much ($800-$1400), but the jerseys commanded over $3k each easily with LTs gear fetching the most.

Yeah, it was decent night. Warren Moon passed us by the first time promising to come back out. Well he did, 60 seconds after I got in my car. Christian Okoye walked by as well. But my main objective was Natrone Means....and that one was a success! Besides Means, I got Carney on my SuperBowl XXIX team helmet & Doug Wilkerson on my '82 team helmet.
My son got Junior Seau, Eric Dickerson, Doug Wilkerson, Sterling Sharpe on his NFL mini.
Stayed for about 3 hours and time flew past since there was a small group of us regulars bunched together (BoltPride 619, ScootMagroot, FlipJTree & Aurelio) The fun part was trying to identify all the VIPs. Our small contigent was about 75% on our identifying skills.

I had a few successes at the party myself. Got Moon on an 8x10; he took his time and gave me a really nice signature. Got Seau on the SI cover and Carney on a 5x7. I had 8x10's for Lynch, Taylor, and Lott, but they obviously didn't show up. Other than that, I was pretty much unprepared, as I got Okoye, Dickerson, Ogden, Fiedler, Martz, and Dave Stewart on 3x5 cards. Also got Carlton on a 3x5 for the wife, since she loved those goofy TV shows.
Faulk wasn't quite as rude as he usually is; this time he was declining in his own arrogant smartass way. When he finally acknowledged a few of us there, he made comments like "Why should I come over there and sign for you guys, when I'll have to sign for everyone else?" and "How about I come over there and sign for just one of you?" He could take some serious lessons from Seau and Moon, who signed for everyone who bum-rushed him in the parking lot. He signed for me right in the middle of the road in front of the restaurant.
Met the Jedi himself, MB, along with finally meeting Flip Tree, Scoot, and Bolt Pride. A most excellent bunch o' guys if I do say so myself.

Hi everyone,
I am working on a couple of articles that Autograph Collector Magazine is interested in. One is about the merits of getting your autographs professionally authenticated. I would be looking for perspectives on both sides of the issue. You may recall that I posted something earlier about this issue on this forum. The second article is about properly displaying your autographed items to reduce damage to them (i.e. fading, sun damage, etc).
For both pieces I am looking for experienced collectors who have been collecting autographs for at least 5-10 years or more. Please e-mail me at: loumud@yahoo.com if you would like to submit information for the articles. I will do this via an e-mail questionnaire that you can fill out on your own. I will also try and include your names as much as possible in the articles themselves. Thanks for all your help!

Thats the great thing with paid signings tho, if you have a ticket you are getting an auto, if for some reason there are 100s of people and I dont get my stuff signed, especially after the whole "cancelation" field of dreams is gonna be in for a rude legal awakening.
XX Radio continually plays the announcement 3-4 times an hour. Funny thing, the ad says "Come meet Cromartie at Field of Dreams in Fashion Valley" Yet ZERO mention that a ticket must be purchased in order to get an autograph. Seems a little deceptive to me. If I heard the ad and went down there, I'd be both PO'd & disappointed finding out I had to pay!

the ad only says "meet" cromartie....nothing about autographs.....but i think it is shady and poor practice of the part of Field of Dreams
Monty Montezuma
03-13-2008, 01:50 PM
Still even tho it only says meet cromartie anyone whos been to any of the other xx things would assume it was free, I bet whats gonna happen is that they'll probably have a bunch of tickets left and try to sell them for the original price and then if they still have more they'll discount them. This is basicly a textbook example of bait and switch, same thing with the $15 thing they switched to $40, its not cool and its totally illegal.
Here we go again with the whining about Field of Dreams and the Cromartie signing. If you don't like the prices, the advertising, the date switch, etc, it's simple - don't buy tickets and don't go.

I dont like being told one price, driving all the way to SD (75 miles) then being told the price is almost tripled from what I was originally quoted, I also dont like taking the 23rd off from work (giving up about $250) and then finding out its changed dates so that I can take the 15th off and give up another $250-400. Any further questions or complaints I'd be happy to answer for you in person at the cromartie appearance, see you there ;)

No need to rant---He cancels in SD for the boat show, cancels on the 1st attempt with FoD in SD, SHOWS up in SAN JOSE on time, cancels again for the 2nd attempt in SD...Hmmm? Is that funny or what?

Not that I am a fan of FOD but I just spoke to them and they said its CRO that keeps rescheduling. I am not surprised after the boat show, 1st FOD signing now this. So I think its mostly CRO's fault or whoever is managing this stuff on his side. Does he even make his offseason home here? I bet hes not even in CA right now....sigh. This really blows. I feel especially bad for you guys who are taking days off for this.

Hello! This is Kerrstyn. I am an employee at Field of Dreams: Fashion Valley. I'm posting to announce that the signing scheduled for tomorrow, March 15, is rescheduled. We do not have a set date for the new signing yet.
If you have or want tickets call or email us with your name and phone number and we will get back to you when we have the new date.

Awww we couldn't sell all our outragously priced tickets so there a "conflict of schedule". I cant wait till I actually do go to FoD. Isn't it funny how the conflicts of schedule keep happening a few days before the date? Maybe because they keep trying to sell out their tickets and they cant? I think I'm gonna have to call and see what they plan to do for me now since I've taken off 2 days losing over $600 cash. Does anyone have the number to FoD so I can give them a friendly call?
Hello! This is Kerrstyn. I'm an employee at FOD. We are just as disappointed as everyone else that Cro keeps rescheduling on us. Apparently he is having personal problems. We do not have a set amount of tickets to sell, in other words, there is no quota. We have actually sold more tickets for this signing than any other. This is as much of an inconvenience for us at the store as it is for you. Please give us a friendly call with your name and number so that we can call you back when we have another date scheduled. Hope you have a good weekend anyway! :)
Wow, this guy seems to really not like Field of Dreams. Obviously he hasn't been to any signings there before, or maybe anywhere else if he expects anyone to have Tomlinson at $15. As someone who has been to almost every signing they've had, I also wonder why he seems to think that they are somehow lax on regulating the times. Every signing I have been to has been controlled as well as could be expected. The only exceptions were when the athlete was late, which is hardly the store's fault. SouthernCalBolt should get his facts straight before spouting off.
Outrageously priced tickets? Have you ever even been to any other signings? Do you have any idea what you're even talking about? Athletes sometimes bow out of these things. That's how it goes sometimes. Anyone that goes to these things knows that, but you obviously don't. And the stores don't set the prices for these things. If you think the prices are too high, talk to the players and their agents. I very rarely ever go onto these things to read what people have to say, and this is why....because there is always someone that doesn't know what they are talking about that insists on putting their 2 cents in anyway. I think I'll leave and let the rest of you deal with this bozo, SouthernCalBolt.

American Icon (sean) and Cj's (Monty) are usually pretty good about their prices for shows... I would just wait to see if they get them in this year...
BTW Why would Field of Dreams PURPOSEFULLY reschedule when they know that people will get angry and possibly ask for refunds... That would be a huge PR nightmare for them.
Why not give them the benefit of the doubt?
ALSO, do you really think they purposefully raised their rates, or could it be that ONE employee had the wrong price on his mind?

Regarding Field of Dreams, I spoke with Mark over there, who I think is the owner, when the news of the first rescheduling came out. I asked his specifically about the disparity between what they were originally selling the tickets for and then the huge increase in prices later. He said that he had been waiting for a while to get the tickets from their corporate office so he could start selling them to the public. But, since they were dragging their feet getting the tickets out to the store, he went ahead and started selling some based upon what he though the prices would go for since he didn't want to keep turning business away. So, it was a gamble he took on his end which didn't pan out for him once the corporate office finally released the ticket prices (but it did for some of us who bought advance tickets!). Anyway, from this I deduce that player appearances are probably usually negotiated through FOD's corporate office, and not necessarily by the individual franchise locations. I could be wrong, though!

Good afternoon everyone! This is my first post, though I have been on this board for some time. I am good friends with AztecMaverick and have met some of you at the Charger signing events. There were a few odds and ends I wanted to get into discussions about.
* With regards to the LT Golf Tournament. I went last year and I will tell you that you should not expect LT to sign anything. Last year even the people who paid to play in the tournament were turned away for autographs. They were told that their signed items were in their thank you gift bags. There were really no non-playing autograph collectors there, so it wasn't as if LT was turning away hordes of people. If you do decide to go, make sure you dress like you belong. I wore a suit and was able to move freely through the clubhouse and player tent. Several Chargers were there and were accessible. Just make sure you look like you should be there.
* For members of sportscollectors.net, there is a new group function. I created a group called "San Diego Sports- Bolts and Friars." The Charger board forum is such a great resource. For those of us who also collect through the mail, I thought it would be cool to pool our abilities and see what we all can do.
* Has anyone had through the mail success for current Chargers other than at the Murphy Canyon address? And speaking of the Murphy Canyon address, has anyone had success TTM in the off-season? Granted, there really isn't much of an offseason anymore. I know AztecMaverick got Kassim and LT in the offseason, but I would like to get an idea of when I can send something in without sitting around for months on end.
* Did anyone go to the kick-off banquet last year? I signed up pretty close to the end and was at a table without a player. I was wondering if there was a secret to getting a table with a Charger, be it a big name or a practice squad guy. If you bought a full table the day tickets became availble, would that increase the liklihood of a table near the front of the stage? That event is still several months away, but hey, worth thinking about now.
* I know many people on this board have gotten jerseys signed by LT, Merriman, Gates, Rivers, etc. My question is who is the most unexpected player you have a signed jersey of? Do we have people displaying a Charlie Whitehurst autographed jersey or even an Andrew Pinncok? Just curious because I am a big jersey guy.
* And lastly, what are your opinions on framing jerseys. Commonly you see framed jerseys with a couple pins, photograph, cards and plaque in the matting. Is anyone else not a fan of this? I just think it is too busy and takes away from the jersey. OK, I think that is enough for now. I look forward to reading your responses and getting involved with this thread.

framing jerseys is really expensive. try ultramountdisplays.com its only like 30 bucks and it looks coolthose are ok if you are just hanging a jersey that isn't signed but if its signed I wouldn't use that because of the dust factor and the old "oops I shook my soda can and opened it sorry but I think some got on the Jersey on the wall... was that a real sig on that jersey?"
the way i look at it if you have a signed jersey and you want to display it you should frame it, however I too am not a fan of all the other items in the frame I want just the Jersey's in the frames...:layup

He wears an Adams hard cup high mount chinstrap, however, due to contracts with Riddell, the straps bear Riddell's name in blue. Simply NOT available to the public, I've tried, believe me, I've tried. You can get the chinstrap no prob, and can try to use a remover to get the Adams name off it, but that's as close as you'll get.
BTW, my understanding is LT had that mask made special, I've only seen one copy of it - http://cgi.ebay.com/Auto-LaDainian-Tomlinson-LT-Chargers-2007-Game-Helmet_W0QQitemZ260219632466QQihZ016QQcategoryZ272 76QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Schutt does not sell full size NFL helmets to the public so far as I know, you'd have to buy a metallic white shell or helmet from some vendor (try RealStuff or ebay) and buy and apply the decals yourself or have a company like RealStuff do it. I built my two helmets for the cancelled Cro signing that way...
