I'm not sure why the old thread (Big props to #59D.BoltFan for creating the 1st thread!) was closed

http://forums.chargers.com/showthread.php?t=34884

and the 2nd was waaaaay too long

http://forums.chargers.com/showthread.php?t=41106

but this is the new thread for any Chargers autograph and public appearances. There are so many different sources that it's good to have one place where most of the info is. If there is a cost I will try to note it in the description. I will also try to bump the thread periodically and edit the 1st post so that it's current. When possible I will try to provide an external link with more information on the signing as proof. If there are posts from me that don't appear on the 1st page of this thread then I'm shaky on the source. Please try to keep this thread about the discussion of upcoming signings, experiences (both positive and negative) with appearances and pictures of your autograph collections. Be good to your fellow collectors! Remember we're all in this together! Also if possible please delete some of your older posts so it isn't such a big thread and isn't so confusing. If you hear about anything please let us know and I will add it!

Very true, let's get back on it with the positive vibes. especially with all the appearances scheduled this month. How bout a Chris Chambers appearance! The #89 on my helmet says Legaduu Naanee on it though...

I wish Antonio Gates would do a signing, that would be cool, he's one of my favorite players, anyone know if he's ever done one, i never heard of any at all. just curious, thanks...

I think your safe if you get there an 1 - 1.5 hour early. Lately, Castillo's signings haven't been very well attended due to the venues not marketing as well (Sprint, housing development, etc). However, I believe Chula Vista loves Castillo and since it's a sports bar, this one might be packed. If you don't get him then, I'm sure there will be more opportunities in the future since he never turns down autograph appearance requests. I think he's doing a signing soon for Sprint too. You can show up late to the Sprint signings and your still good for autos. Good luck!

F14

I'll be there 2 hours early (3pm...just in case). I have a feeling it might be a good turn-out, especially since he's the coverboy for Madden in spanish, hehe! Anyways, hope to see a lot of you there!

Josh Lewin and his band are hosting a chargers players party and concert type thing...no word on what players but he mentioned charger and padres players will be there. Tonight at House of Blues @9:00 $10 cover charge I just heard him on Rock 1053, not sure if there is a link anywhere...

hi! anymore word/link/info on this? this would be great since i have nothing planned after work.

i couldnt find anything on their site and their Chargers link. Thanks in advance!

This is about the best I could do the bands website. They are playing tonight at the House of Blues but no word on what players might be there.

thanks! did some clicking on the bands site and read this, "A return trip to San Diego next weekend-we'll be playing the 5th Street Side Stage at House of Blues on Friday October 19th, and a wedding in LaJolla the next night.

Friday night is "Beat the Bye Week Blues" for all you Chargers fans. Chargers players will be in attendance, as well as give aways of tickets and signed Charger gear. And, of course, the voice of the Chargers, Josh Lewin, on keyboards!

Hope to see you all there."

Anyone gonna get tickets in advance?

I paid in advance for the Marcus McNeill signing and it wasn't a huge turn-out and he actually left early because there wasn't anyone left for signing. I don't think the Scifres and Dobbins signing will be that crowded and you could probably just pay on that day.

Well I'm going to have to do the same thing on Saturday as Tuesday's Castillo/Cooper signing's... so I'll be at the Scifres signing (11-12) then I'm bolting to the Phillips signing (12:30-1:30)... I can do it:LightsOut:

Dude! How do you guys do it? I guess I'll try to go to both the Cooper and Castillo's signing on Tues. I'll go to the Cooper signing first since I'll be close by and then head down to Chula. See you all there!

Well im glad i made it out to House of Blues tonight...it was kind of unorganized, but i got to "hang out" with Hardwick, Dielman, and KOOOOOZ of the Padres....they all sat in the far back....I didn't see anybody getting autographs, but when they got up i caught each of them and took a picture with each of them....i asked Hardwick how his foot was feeling...it was in a protective boot, but he said it was getting better and probly 2 games, i didn't really know what to say to dielman, so i just said good luck against Houston....and i congartaulated Kouz on a great season...alll three were cool guys, especially KouZ, i didnt get any autos, but i had a great time hanging out with them

Not that I want to sound the panic alarm but I found a website that posted pictures of Castillo signing at Touchdown in Chula Vista?!? It thanked everyone for attending on a work day on Oct. 17th. Is this from last season (I hope) or did we miss it by having the wrong date?

Hey guys. Im trying to get a Merriman auto and was considering buying one on ebay. How safe do you think it is to buy something that has a GAI cert for the item? The auction I found seems obscenely cheap and as the saying goes, if its to good to be true, it probably is:

Usually the hologram stamps are next to the signature, not "on the jersey." Also, notice he writes that this item is reflective of what you will receive. THAT'S NOT THE ITEM! So he might show you a real one and then when you get it, it'll be different than the picture...

GOCHARGERS.21 - Are you interested in trading? I have a couple extra Shawne Merriman autographs, to be specific, on a 1988-2006 Chargers mini helmet and the 1961-1973 throwback Chargers full size. Let me know what you think.

id consider trading but I dont have much to trade seeing as my auto collection is limited. Nothing like MB's! Thx for the offer though :)

On another note, I found this seller on ebay who has alot of matted/framed jerseys and photos. Prices are really good. Considering matting and framing runs at around 300 bucks, Id consider buying these items even if they werent real. The look bad a**

Whats up SD! Very Unfortunate of what is happening right now in the fires. I hope that everyone affected by the fires are ok. Does anyone know any updates as far as closures and what not? and I'm assuming that the autograph signing tomorrow is being postponed? Please keep us informed with informations. Thanks and my heart goes out to those who are suffering right now.

It appears that the Santa Clarita area may just survive this fire with very few loses. We were still able to deliver mail to much of the city, the carriers did a great job.

I hope that all of you folks down there are safe and that you and your loved ones are back home soon.

Rancho Bernanrdo too, but no I meant rancho cucamonga. I live in murrieta like 30 miles from there and there is a big fire there too, I dont think its as out of control as the others but it did lots of damage. There is another one like 20 miles from me in de luz too. I guess the I 15 is closed at parts my sister lives in san diego and is stuck up here for now anyway. I was thinking about packing up all my chargers stuff just incase we get the warning so I dont have to waste time packing it all then. I hope this all gets handled soon tho, I guess CA declared a state of emergency, the CA national guard got called in and CA is asking fire departments from other states for help, crazy, at least the winds are dying down tho, everyone stay safe.

i heard it was at the 15 and devore... is it getting closer to rancho?.. my brother lives in alta loma.. he's good so far..

Hey any of you guy, sorry if I offend anyone with small colletions, but any of you guys that have BIG Collections... do you have insurance on them if so where did you get it? I'm looking to get like $20,000 worth but I don't know a lot of places I have one, but I'm looking for options...

You might want to try contacting our old friend IDontSellAutos. If I remember correctly, he has a huge collection as described from his previous post-

Like all of you, I am just another sports fanatic who claims to have a normal hobby in collecting autographs, denying in every which way that it has actually nearly consumed your/my life and has turned more into an obsession than anything else. And yes, I speak from experience since I have been collecting since I was 12, which would date me back to about 10 years ago. If you want to see what obsessive looks like, send me your email address and I will show you photos of my collection (I would attach here, but since I actually don't know how to post photos here, I have to do it the old school way, suggestions welcome).
As I apparently am the most knowledgeable individual on this thread when it comes to autographs, I'll give you a couple tips.......

He's bound to know or atleast able to recommend several insurance companies dealing with private collections.

My daughter who has autism was in children's hospital after falling from the monkey bars and broke her arm. After a sleepless night at her bedside; my wife and I were surprised when Mike Scifres came to the ward to visit the injured kids. I know he and the other Chargers staff present made it a very special day! I just wanted to let fans know how AWESOME it is for players to take time out of their busy schedule to cheer up the sick and injured kids here in the San Diego area.:Helmet::Bolt::Football:

Yeah, the foundation started by Drew Breeze is a wonderful organization. The waiting room is a small football field with a wall-sized photo taken in Qualcomm (Jack Murphy?!?!?) stadium. There is a game ball and photos of Drew Breeze's daughter growing up. It's really too bad about the two corner backs getting in trouble, but hopefully the child fans can find role models in genuinlely honorable people like LT and Antionio Gates! Just heard that the game will be here! We have some outstanding rookie and second year players who will "pick up the ball" with regards to charity work and making appearances at schools/hospitals.

Hello, I have read this form over the past few weeks. This is my first post. I am a huge Chargers fan here in Colorado, and Broncos country . First let me say, I truly hope all is well for fellow Chargers fans, friends and family members. I have seen the fires on TV, and read the San Diego Tribune online daily. It is sad to see from a distance. That being said, prayers and thoughts from Colorado. I am a huge collector here in Colorado. I enjoy reading your autograph experiences with The Chargers. There are not as many autograph apperances W/ The Broncos. I am again a Chargers fan, but will get free auto's if and when any Broncos make apperances. And this is not very often. I did 2 years ago go and get Chargers in Denver at their team hotel. Here are a few that I got. Brees, V. Jackson, McCardell, D.Sprolls, Ben Liber, Jammer, James Lofton, and Marty. Antonio Gates was the one I wanted most. He is my favorite Charger. He was great, I got him on 2 Mini Helmets. Tomlinson was a toughie. My son and another kid got him. He tried to avoid as much as possible. He is my son's favoite player and he was happy. This is still my son's favorite autograph. I have not gone for Chargers the past 2 years when they come to Denver. I did do a send in item for Tomlinson when he a private signing with American Icon Autographs. I got him on a '07 Chargers mini Helmet. And I plan on doing another in March '07 w/ GTSM. I live right outside of Colorado Springs. Tony Gwynn comes here on a yearly basis since he coaches at SDSU. They come here and play The Air Force Academy in baseball every year. T. Gwynn is a great signer here and usually signs 2 -3 apiece. There are not big crowds here to get him. There was 4 of us this year on the first day. I don't know about the other 2 days when they played. He kind of gives us a hard time, not rude, but signed. This year he signed HOF 07 on my 2 baseballs. I am not a dealer, I love to collect, and love to hear others autograph stories. Thank you for letting me share a little bit in this form. I try to read daily, and I hope you don't mind if I post from time to time. God Bless you all, and GO BOLTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for the warm welcomes. I have visited Denverautographs.com. They have 2 really nice stores in Denver. They do have some good autograph guests. I went to their Champ Bailey signing they had earlier this year. And they had a private signing w/ John Lynch that I sent a mail in item too. I have noticed Chargers players make a lot of free public signings. It is good to see the guys out and interacting with the fans. . I don't live in Denver, I live outside of Colo. Spgs, in Falcon. Vincent Jackson grew up in Widefield, just a few miles south of Colo. Spgs.. He was a stud in High School. Great to see a local kid making an impact in The NFL. I am glad it is game day. It seems like it has been longer than 2 weeks, with everything that has happened and still going on. It will be good to see The Chargers back on the field.

Yep. I just got into collecting autographs earlier this year. That being the case, I got all riled (sp?) up and started going anywhere there were football superstars signing. Flight was only like $145/round trip to Denver.

Well, long story short. My cell phone is ringing and I'm thinking it's my work because I've been out sick these last few days, so I see it's an outside area call and answer it. I was just informed that I have been selected to attend the Nextel Bar-B-Que in which Antonio Gates and others will be attending. They are going to send me an e-mail detailing the times plus 3 forms that I need to fill out.

I hope that this is legit, and I was just wondering if anyone else that posts on this thread received a call today. I will post again when I get the e-mail confirmation. I told the guy that I live about 3 hours away and have been wanting to attend Player Appearances down in the SD area but the distance is a killer, he laughed and said well now you can meet a bunch of them at one time.

Needless to say that i'm very excited about the possibilty of being able to meet and greet the players.............I was so close to not answering my cell, and I happy I did!!!

Thx Guys...........I can't say in words how happy I am. I have no idea how many people are being selected to attend, but I hope to meet some of you folks there. I did ask if I can bring items to be signed and he said that I will have a POC who will let me know how this whole thing will work. He did not want to say one way or the other.

Well, I arrived at the YMCA at 5:45pm ready to get some autographs to add to my measly collection. Met up with KlevMeister (Alan) at the gate. Gates open & the gathered mass rushes in. We're told immediately they expect the players to show up around 7pm. Great, a hour wait. So we make ourselves comfortable on the bleachers while my wife & son have fun in the carnival section.
The players finally show up just about 5 minutes after 7pm. It's McCree, Turner, Sproles & Wilhelm. The DJ annonces that the Chargers have arrived and the predetermined signing area is rushed. Security tries it's best to get eveyone in a single line, but to no avail. Chaos insues. It takes about 15minutes to get the line in an orderly fashion. I'm about the 20th person in line.
Line is moving slowly as everyone let's their brother and/or friends cut in line in front of them. Finally, after about 10 minutes waiting, I'm only 3 people away from getting the only signature I need- Marlon McCree. Guess what? The players are pulled from the tables & asked to judge the costume contest. That takes 25 minutes. Well now it's nearly 8pm but I've waited all this time. The players take their seats and start signing once again. They sign two more autograph just as the Chargers representative announces that they have to leave.
My night was junked. I got no auto's & I'm ass'd out! I did catch KlevMeister sneak up to the front of the line & get his helmet signed though. Next time, I'm elbowing my way IF I decide to go to next years event.
Here's a funny anecdote, the players were signing CHAMPS posters. The funny part, that the poster didn't feature any of tonight's players.

damn that blows..all that time waiting and no sigs...i would have told you to follow me but it would have been too many people..it was getting too hectic as it is so i had to take matters into my own hands...

OK...........Today my wife calls me at work to tell me that she received a phone call stating that she also has been selected to attend the VIP guest list for the BBQ. I'm sorry, but I have never in my life won a contest, let alone two in a week.

I'm wondering if maybe they are just inviting everyone that entered into the contest due to all that has transpired down there in the last couple of weeks. It's a great PR opportunity for Sprint and a chance for the Charger Organization to show some LUV for those affected by the fires..........just a thought because like I said, this is just to good to be true. Please post if anyone else has been contacted for this event scheduled for the 10th of Nov.

My date is going to have to put out MB!............Actually it works out pretty sweet for us. When I was notified yesterday about be selected I told my son that HE had won the contest. I entered him in the "Bring A Player to School sweepstates", which of course he lost. He was bummed out about it andf I could see that he really wanted to win it. So I made up a story that they decided to have a BBQ and he was selected for that. He was caught by surprise and the look on his face was priceless.

With my Wife getting the call today, her date will be our Daughter Vanessa. As far as my son knows, we are all his guest for winning the contest. If our kids were not going I would definitely offer them up to those who post on this thread.

I hope that they are still in the process of announcing winners and I get a chance to meet some of you.

I mentioned the orthopedic Chargers waiting room earlier in the thread and meant to say that it was Stan Humphries, not Drew Breeze. My bad. Well, we had to have a second surgery on my daughters arm because of her autism and throwing herself down, the external pins moved and the bones weren't lined up. No Chargers appearance this time tho :( We have to have my daughter x-rayed weekly and so far so good after 2 1/2 weeks. I shoulda had him sign her cast!!! We got a poloroid and autograph tho.

It will always stick with me how awesome (and unexpected) it was to see Mike Scifres coming to visit the hospital with a whole wagon full of stuffed animals. I know he brightened up alot of kids day and made them forget their illness/injury if only for a minute.

p.s. That was one hell of a punt last week eh?? Boooooooom! Nates kickoffs are looking better as well!

Not a bad line-up, more baseball than Football though.......I'm more into Football than BB. If there is one show to go to In Chicago, it's the March Sun Times Show. My wife and I have made that trip the last 3 yrs in a row.

In the last 3 years I've been able to get Ocho Cinco, Emmitt Smith, Tony Romo, Urlacher, Michael Irvin, Troy Aikman, Duece McAllister, Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, Eli Manning.........I know I shouldn't mention him on the board, but he does have a nice Sig. & Ray lewis.

The problem with going done there this year is that there is too much happening next Year. NFL Experience in Early Feb, The GTSM Show in March, which seems like it will coincide with the Chicago Show. If you guys ever travel to a Show I highly recommend the Chicago Show, Great Line-up, Fantastic Food, and the People and nite-life is off the Charts.......just my 2 cents.

Is it so much to ask for Michael Turner to do a signing?
Is he Hollywood-ing us?

He would be a big draw and he shouldn't command a ton of money...

I tried talking Monty in to getting him at CJ's but he didn't sound all too thrilled. The Burner will be a star SOMEDAY, probably not with us, but he WILL be a star...

It's been noted that Jamal Williams is a very tough autograph to get. A few of us here perservered throughout the month of August during training camp to get his sig.

As for Michael Turner, you must have missed last week. Michael Turner signed at the Jackie Robinson YMCA on Halloween night along with Wilhelm, Sproles & McCree.

Oh yes, Chris Chambers. Newest bolt & probably be a few months before he makes a public appearance.

I've gotten Jamal twice in the past three years at Fan Fest, but both times I had crappy pics signed and the sigs don't show very well. I was able to get Turner the Burner at the celebrity bartending deal they did earlier this year. Really nice guy, we talked for quite awhile after he signed for me.

Just got back from today's signings. My son & I first stopped in on Shaun Phillips at Paradise Walk in National City. Saw both Bolt Cola & xtra-innings out there collecting more sigs.
Shaun was great as usual taking the time to take pictures with all that came out.
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s146/RareAirResto/Sports%20Athletes/SabbyShaun.jpg

A couple of the Charger Girls (Summer & Gail) were also in attendance and happy to take photos & pass out the latest 2007-2008 Charger Girl print.
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s146/RareAirResto/Sports%20Athletes/GailSummer.jpg

Then we headed off to the Mission Valley Marriott (props to xtra-innings as I was about to make a mistake and head to the La Jolla Marriott  ) Not much of a crowd, but those that were there, were all professionals. These guys bring out multiple pieces for signatures. And 90% of them weren't friendly at all. When I asked about how getting autographs works, they pretty much turned up their noses. So glad I don't buy on eBay or where ever these so-called autograph seekers get their merchandise. I did get a few auto's on my helmet, but none of the huge names.

We just got back from the BBQ. First I would like to say that the people in-charge did a great job of setting up the event and coordinating this afternoons festivities. We arrived at around 11:30 at the Stadium, the event was held at the External Field by the Fire Station on the premises. Much to my delight there were not alot of people there and I hoped that it would not be a mob scene.

We got in line to enter the facility at 12:10 and after checking our ID's we were let in at 12:30. It was a 3 hour event and the first thing the lady said was help yourselfs to the Food and the players well be out around 1:15. They went all out!!! The food was fantastic! Tri-tip, Thick footlong hotdogs, and Chicken, all you could eat. The best thing about the whole event was that it was a very small group, maybe 100 or so people. There was no concern of not being able to get everyones sig.

They had four different stations, one for auto's, one for fotos, one playing Madden football with a Player, and a station were a player would record a voice message for you when getting a call. They also had a DJ and the MC was a guy from MTV, Affion Crockett, all the younger guys and gals knew who he was...........I had no clue...........whatz that tell ya.

The players that attended the event along with Gates were Cooper,Marques Harris, Macree, and S. Phillips. Castillo was sceduled to attend but was a no-show due to injury I assume. The players signed everything put in front of them and were very friendly to everyone. Antonio Arrived about an hour before the event ended, and I was one of the first in line to get his auto.

I was able to get 2 authentic jerseys signed by Gates, a Mcfarlane Figure, my 2007 media guide, and 3 8x10's. I had been wanting to get Gates for along time so I took advantage of my once in a lifetime opportunity. I had all the others sign my Media guide and 8x10's that were there for the people in attendance. We all had a very nice time, the people form Sprint and the Chargers really put together a nice event and I am so pleased to have been selected. I will post fotos later, I need to get some sleep and make the drive down tomorrow again for the BIG GAME!

Sorry for the long read.

MB,
Have any problems with security? I'm gonna go for the Ravens.

As xtra-innings mentioned above, hotel security for that particular site kinda sucked. They don't allow the fans to enter inside the lobby area or congregate anywhere near the front walk way, which is a given. They were corgial enough to designate an area where the fans can wait for the athletes to come out (on their own will) to meet/greet & sign, which several players did. Jeff Saturday, Kelvin Hayden, Hunter Smith, Craphonso Thorpe & Marlin Jackson were kind enough to stop & sign for me as they made their way to their hired cars.
Taking photos was more difficult, as the so-called pros have the "me first" attitude and don't care about anything else. The hotel security also set a time restraint for the fans initially at 6pm. Which seemed an appropriate deadline, but suddenly they changed it to 5pm and everyone left. I'll definetly try my luck again when the Ravens, Lions & Broncos come to town.

Let me know if y'all decide to do it again. Betcha' we can bum rush some of those "professional" sig seekers... and get to he front.

It's not a problem getting to the front, there were probably only 12-18 people trying to get autographs. It's the attitude & demeanor of these so-called pro's that is less than appreciated.

Hey fellas,

7-11 stores are running a promo right now that says if you buy two 20-oz bottles of a Coke or Mt Dew product, you get a free 2007 Chargers team photo. I got mine this morning, and it's much bigger than the usual team pics they have every year. There's not much advertising on the front of the pic, and it's bright and clear, perfect for getting multiple sigs at the blood drive. Unfortunately, Chris Chambers isn't in the pic

Also, I am looking for a large image of the Cromartie INT from last week. If anyone can hook that one up too that would be awesome. And keep the info coming on signings, I love all the info i get here. glad i just started posting a couple days ago.

Scoot...I checked Getty right after my last post, and they have 4 different shots of the INT from last week's game. Unfortunately, the cheapest I came up with was $430. I'm gonna try calling them tomorrow to see if there's a cheaper way to get pics.

I really want a shot of LT stiff-arming the helmet off the Rams DB last season, but they didn't have it.

A most excellent reference, BF73!! I checked the photo galleries, and they don't seem to have any good shots of LT stiff-arming the helmet off the Rams DB, but they DO have a great shot of the Cro INT.

It would be worth paying $60 for the 12x17 if I could get it signed with a nice silver Sharpie.

What kind of turnout will the blood drive have this year? Last year it was huge and the team was coming off a comeback win against the Broncos. This year...

as much as i want it to be a small crowd so i may get my items signed quickly...i really want a huge, HUGE crowd! we need to support the cause and our team through ups and downs. thats what real fans are for, right? anyways, hope to meet some of you.

Anyone hear anything on the supposed 80's Charger players getting together for a signing with CJ's??

Talked to monty again about it...

looks like the Chargers alumni assoc is taking his idea and running with it. They will be doing several shows, HOF chargers, chargers of the 60s, 70s, 80s and it will be at the hall of champs in SD and will benefit Chargers alum who aint doin so well...

I gave up the blood last week :D Got my voucher in hand and ready to go for tomorrow's autograph fiesta

It saves time if you have an appointment. If you don't have an appointment time, that's just another 2-4 hour wait line you'll be stuck in. Grab FinishStrong56s (Shanes) appointment time, it'll be worth it.
I was hesitatant at donating too, but the end result is worth it. Took less than 12 minutes, I was watching the stupid clock.

haha....you were watching the clock huh?....thanks for the info...lol...

Well the Blood Drive was some what of a success... at least until they cut off the VIP bands and made everyone stand in the regular line but I must say I didn't do too bad for a couple of hours there...
I got each one to sign two items, didn't see LT there at all, but I left at 11:30...

Dang, dude. You're fast in posting these up! Nice pics. Obviously, you're a pro at this. It was good seeing you, Meanz Business, and AztecMaverick at the signing. We eventually got Mike Goff and Eric Weddle after you left. I'm so glad to have gotten Chris Chambers and Shawne Merriman!!!

I just made my reservations, 99.00 a night, 27 miles from the event. I mention this only because I know some of you collect auto's not only of the Chargers, but from players around the NFL league. This was the cheapest rate I could find in the immediate area..........all others were in the 400.00 to 600.00 a nite rate.........UGH!!! So if your thinking of making the trip you should really make plans as soon as possible. If you have never attended the NFL Experience, it is really a tremendous event especially for autograph seekers...........just wanted to give a heads up.

Merriman showed up at 2:30. Tomlinson stayed for about 30minutes, but didn't go to the tables. He stayed in the blood donation section.

I also heard he signed for about 20 minutes this morning during his Turkey drive in Chula Vista

Had a great time today...

Hung out with OSideLTFan most of the day as we were stuck in the VIP line and then one hell of a "regular" line.

Couple observations:
-PLEASE OH PLEASE prepare for larger crowds next year Chargers

-Only once thru the VIP line is ridiculous (one of the security guards told me that it wasn't fair that we kept going thru. well I HATE needles and I still gave blood... I think it's fair that I wouldn't have to wait an extra hour each time thru. give blood if it aint fair!) Along with that, a standby line would be good if you don't want to go thru that group...

-Meanz Business must be a jedi. I would see him behind me, then an hour later in front of me, then behind me again in the same line! I was dumbfounded! I'm just playin man it was good to see you and all the others...MB your son will be happy with all those photos someday!

-IDontSellAutos... WHERE THE HELL DO YOU KEEP YOUR COLLECTION?! It must be massive! You brought what seemed like CJ's Sportscards entire inventory today! And who was that army with you??

-Oside, Thank you for saving lives today by supporting breast cancer awareness thru buying a Charger Girl calendar (AND HAVING THEM SIGN IT!). That altruistic act by you will not go unnoticed!

Overall, I would say I had a good time even though it was a friggin zoo!

TODAY'S ITEMS:
Merriman 12x18
Whitehurst #
Chambers #
O-Line project 8x10, Hardwick only today
Sproles 8x10

The Blood Drive was definetely worth the effort. On the way to the convention center, all I could think of was "If I get Chambers autograph on the helmet, I'll consider it a successfull event". It took about 45 minutes upon arriving before I accomplished my goal.

I pretty much got the entire team. The only players that have eluded me thus far are: Stephen Cooper, Lorenzo Neal & Marlon Mcree.

After the "express line" users got cut-off, I expended my time with Cheerleaders

i am not sure if i am posting this in the proper location. i have never blooged before, but here goes. i have a pic of chargers team(82) and all of the teams original sig's on back. it is a one of a kind as far as i know. my dad was in charge of printing the paper tray inserts that jack in box used to do of sports teams and he was given the original photo. i have had it for 10 plus years and have no idea of value or if and how to get signatures authinticated ( or if it even makes any difference to do so) i also have the original artwork of 3 players with artists signature that was used to make the posters they hand out on some game days. i think the players are bauer, benerski(sp?) and one other i forgot. sorry dont have them in front of me. any help would be appriciated. i called a bunch on memoribillia stores and they were no help.

I had a good time at the blood drive myself..... it was my first time, but it will not be my last. I filled up my football with a ton of autographs... I got Gates (woo hoo!), Hardwick, Goff, Clinton Hart, Charlie Whitehurst, Clary, Mcruznsky (sp?) and some others, but I'm really happy I got Kassim Osgood and seriously, what a great guy! He really was happy to be there... he was joking and smilling with people and just was all around great, great attitude and great role model. I'm just bummed I can't get an Osgood EQT jersey. I also got about 8 or so Charger girls to sign, as well as Todd Tobias (the author of Charging through the AFL and Bombs Away!.... great books on the old school Chargers) and I also got Rolf Benerschke to sing my ball.... way cool. Almost got Kaeding, Sproles, Vincent Jackson, Igor, Chambers and Shawne and Shaun, but they left before I could get to them. Almost got Weddle, but he shook my hand, so that was cool. I stuck out too.... I was wearing a white Tomlinson TCU jersey.

My only extremely minor gripes were that initially the lines for the autographs was kinda disorganized, but it was addressed later on. Also, anybody see the lady that was freaking out when the autograph line shut down? Good god.... she was cursing at the security and eventually was yelling at Rolf Benerschke's wife, definately not cool.... hopefully security got her out. Aside from that though, great time and hopefully plenty of blood was donated.

Congrats on all your autos guys, sounds like it was definitly worth it, I'll have to plan better next year. Anyway I forget who said kasim is col and a good role model, well he's cool, but not a great role model off the field. I know navy guys who have seen him in strip clubs by the base with lawrence taylor doin coke in the vip. It was definitly him too, he signed some napkins and stuff I guess. Kinda lame but I guess if it doesn't affect his game who am I to judge.

Antonio Gates is December 22nd from 2-4pm as well.

Bolt pride, thanks so much for posting that, they must have just gone up. I tend to end up in the dark till the last minute because the agents do the pricing. Well good luck guys... according to their web page the Castillo signing is now from 1:30-3:30 and prices are as follows:
Items & Pricing
There are two prices for each item - the cost of the item, and the cost to have the item signed. For example, an 8x10 photo is $5 + $50 = $55. The only items to which this does not apply are "Signed Polaroids with the Athlete" and items you personally bring. PLEASE NOTE - Bring or buy 3 items to be signed at the show and you will receive a 15% discount (a SuperTicket). Prices are below.

ITEM...................................ITEM....... ...SIG
Pic with Athlete, Signed..........$40............n/a
Certificate............................ $1............ n/a
8x10 Photo........................... $5........... $50
16x20 Photo......................... $25.......... $50
Mini-Helmet.......................... $25.......... $60
Replica Helmet...................... $99.......... $80
Authentic NFL Helmet............ $199......... $80
Authentic NFL Football........... $99.......... $80
3-Panel White Football........... $59.......... $80
Replica Team Jersey.............. $59.......... $80
Brought Flat up to 16x20.........................$50
Brought Mini-Helmet............................... $60
Brought All Else..................................... $80

VERY UNREASONABLE...
I realize that every player wants to get paid, but c'mon. Players like Gwynn did it for free during their playing days and they got unheard of press because of it. It's one of the reasons why Kassim has his own jersey that the team sells. He is a fan favorite... He is out in the community... He makes money of the jerseys...

I have worked for an agent and here is how it goes in the locker room...

Shawne Merriman: Oh yeah I pull 20K per signing
Shaun Phillips: Really? I only pull 5-10K... Damn, my stats are similar, why should you be getting paid more?
Luis Castillo: WAIT! You guys get PAID for signings?? :)

Its an ego thing between players...

XTRA-INNINGS, I gotta know...

A) Why do you ask players for multiple autographs ttm (through the mail)

B) Why do you have those items (what look like many of the SAME successes ttm you have posted here) on ebay

C) Why do you THEN say in your item listings that you obtained them IP (In Person) For example: You say you got your Stan Musial postcard at a charity event when it is well known to be what he mails out to people who request an autograph. Another example: Your Chuck Bednarik photo on ebay is almost the SAME one you posted here as a ttm success, yet you say he was at a HOF sponsored signing in Canton.

D) Why do you put YOUR certificate of authenticity on these photos if they are TTM when you don't even SEE them sign it. Fernando Valenzuela has been questioned for having a ghost signer... I hope you have never sold a Larry Johnson ttm or Joe Montana ttm as it is obvious they use ghost signers.

I may be getting all riled up for nothing... I hope I am and I will apologize if so, but you have to admit, it looks kinda weird to someone on the outside looking in...

If anyone wishes to learn more about ttm autographs, goto www.sportscollectors.net (http://www.sportscollectors.net) and you can see how well your fav athlete signs ttm...

Okay, I'm actually glad that all played out because I've been looking for quite some time to have something concrete to give the agents to show them how the fans really feel. I'm sorry that that's how so many of you feel and hope that as a company, working with the fans we can start to open some eyes about high pricing. Since, it's all out now, let's play a fair game....I understand that everyone enjoys a free event and thinks they are necessary, ....but for just an autograph on your own item...how much do you think would be fair price for....

Luis Castillo?
Shaun Phillips?
Antonio Gates?

Please take advantage of this time to have your voices heard by someone who's on your side. The nicest part of my job is working with the Make a Wish Foundation and getting have a child or two get to meet every player we work with....the better our turnouts, the happier the fans, the better we can contribute to them and help these kids.

Great job Aztec that's what most of us are talking about when you see the big named players and they get less or a little more it just doesn't justify paying fees of $80-$125... I think that for a player of Castillo's or Phillips' stature it shoud be like $15 for small, $25 for large and $30 for premeum, but then again as far as Gates goes it should be like $20 small, $25 large, and $35 Premeum... I don't understand paying such high prices when the same players do free signings thru out the year... Now if you want someone like LT it shoud be like $45 small, $50 large, and $70 premeum...

LT is running at 149 for a flat :/

The higher the notoriety to the given public of any general athlete/celebrity, the more said person can demand. Paris Hilton charges 1/2 million for a 2 hour appearance at a night club. Promoters pay it because it's what the general public wants.
Merriman is another example. When he does free signings, his autograph reads "Lights Out #56" But if you were to attend a paid signing, you'd get the full "Shawne Merriman, Lights Out #56" autograph.

On a side note, paying for the initial autograph is one thing, but to charge an exuberant rate for an added inscription (ie. HoF, RoY or MVP) is just plain nonsense. Using LT as an example: $189 for his autograph on a helmet, and then an additional $89 if the fan wants "MVP 2006"

Also, why charge different prices on different items? Why does an 8x10 cost only $149, but a helmet is $40 more? The price difference is already shown on the specific item the fan selected to have signed, the autograph is the same! The difference in value of said signed item should come from the type of item. Hence the helmet will fetch more on the open market due to the fact it's retail value before being signed was already $259 versus the $5 8x10.

Here's my suggestions for the 3 named players mentioned above:
Castillo & Phillips:
$20 Small items- photos, magazines, mini helmets
$30 Premium items- 16x24 & larger prints , f/s helmets, footballs, jerseys

Gates:
$40 Small items
$50 Premium items

Hello, I have not posted in a couple weeks. I read daily from Colorado, being I am a Chargers fan here. Hope all is well in San Diego and Happy Holidays. I have read everyones responses about charging for autographs and pricing. Personally, I am just glad to see Mr. Gates do a signing. He is my favorite Charger. I plan on mailing my Throwback and New 07 Mini Helmets to get signed. I am always looking for him to do a signing. There is no other way to get him unless I go to the team hotel when they come in to Denver each year . I wish more of The Broncos would do more free signings here. I love to collect any free auto's I can get. You guys are lucky some of The Chargers, and good ones at that, do free signings. But my 2 cents from a far is, Mr Gates prices should be, 8 X 10 = $25, Mini = $45, and premiums = $60. I think that is fair. If anyone hears prices or where to mail items for Gates. Please let me know. My Email is Falcon92diz@aol.com. Thank you. And hearing from Autograph seekers that try to get Broncos during the week after practices. Cutler and Bailey are VERY tough. J. Walker is about 50/50. Elam is great. Lynch is pretty good for the most part. And this year Brandon Marshall has been tough. So good luck to you guys when they come in, hope you do well.
To find the teams, look up on the rosters and find a coachs names or lesser players on team . Call hotels you think they are at about a week before they come in. Have them put you through to reservatios. When you talk to agent, ask them if there has been a reservation made for (Jarvis Moss on Dec ??) . IF they say "No." Tell them it should be with a group, and tell them group name, (Denver Broncos). A lot of times they will tell you, "Yes" the " Group Block" has been set, but the names have not been faxed to hotel yet. Just make sure to ask if there has been a group block set up yet. That is how I will find teams in Denver. Hope this helps. Talk to you all soon.

Agreed...although I DID shell out the $75 to get a 16x20 signed by Gates at the Field of Dreams signing, and that one damn near broke me, considering the actual photo was an additional $40 (I had to do a lot of weaseling with the wife for THAT one...haha).

What blew me away was the cost for Merriman for the Upper Deck signing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he getting well over $100 for some items?? That's getting into the Joe Montana range, for a LINEBACKER who's only played 3 years??? Lawrence Taylor isn't getting anywhere NEAR that kind of money, and he was one of (if not THE) greatest ever.

At this point in their careers, Gates, Rivers, and Merriman shouldn't be getting much more than $50 or $60 tops. LT is a whole different story, as mentioned earlier in the thread. Sadly enough, I'm gonna try to get to the San Jose signing and shell out the $149 for him (I feel another "discussion" with the wife coming up over that one too...LOL)

It's getting to be just like paying for tickets to go to a game at Qualcomm. A family of 4 will cost $250 in ticket prices alone, and that's if they pay face value. tack on a minimum $20 for parking, another $40-60 for food inside the stadium, and you're looking at well over $300 for 4 hours of fun. I hafta agree, that inscription deal is absolutely ridiculous.

I also agree that Ebay DOES have a lot to do with the pricing getting out of hand the way it is, with people selling autos (real or fake, it doesn't really matter). That's not taking shots at anyone in particular or any member of this thread; my intent is not to attack anyone here, that's just the way it is.

Thanks for actually taking the time to get our thoughts on this; it's not too often that someone will listen to what we have to say. Coming from a low end collector who's in it for the fun of it and the love of the game, it means a lot.

OK, I'm done babbling...see you guys at the Scifres signing!!

I'm going to guess that Gates will be over $100+ since Castillo tops at $80 for today's signing. Funny, I paid $50 for Gates at the Field of Dreams signing and thought that was pretty steep. Oh well, to each there own. However, I appreciate Wolfradiogirl for reporting the appearances since this is an autograph thread. Hopefully, the promoter will still be able to make a profit and continue bringing more Chargers (especially those that are rare to public signings) past and present. San Diego is not exactly a hot bed for promoter signings so hope this is a trend for more to come. For those that go to the Castillo singing, please write a full report. Good luck at the malls too.

Hi, this is my fist time posting but I have read your threads all the time. Anyway, the Castillo signing was an outrage. I went not knowing the prices and when I saw them, I was like ***. I went to the Fan Fest 07 and got his autograph for free, I wasnt about to pay all that money to get his jersey signed. I went because my wife is his fan and she wanted to get his autograph on her jersey, plus, get my jersey signed also. So, we got there like at 1245 (didnt want to be late), and when I saw the prices, I wanted to leave, but I atleast wanted a picutre. So when he got there at 145ish, my girl took a picture with him and we were going to leave. But, I told my girl, "hey, maybe he will sign when its over?" You could tell Luis did not like the prices of the signings because of the way he was making face expressions. Anyways, many hispanic fans came out to see him and left because of the prices. I mean, Im hispanic, and yes, we are cheap LOL, but at those prices, who isnt. But, me and my girl stayed there till about 345, and when he was done with his signings, I went up to him on his way to his car and asked for an autograph and he gladly gave it to me. We got my jersey signed, and my girls jersey signed and more pictures. He took pictures with other fans also on his way to his car. Luis is a very nice guy, before the signing we were just shooting the breeze and he was talking to the fans that were around. Over all, very nice guy. To the hispanics, he is like "the golden boy" of football. Anyways, I just wanted to post what happened. I really like this thread about signiatures, please, keep posting :)

Agreed...although I DID shell out the $75 to get a 16x20 signed by Gates at the Field of Dreams signing, and that one damn near broke me....

I also agree that Ebay DOES have a lot to do with the pricing getting out of hand the way it is, with people selling autos (real or fake, it doesn't really matter). That's not taking shots at anyone in particular or any member of this thread; my intent is not to attack anyone here, that's just the way it is.

The Upper Deck Merriman signing was $125, regardless of what item he signed. Back in April, Merriman had a scheduled signing with American Icon Autrographs. The prices were $50/$60 (small/medium items) and $75 for premium pieces. Inscriptions were an additional $15

As for eBay, screw that. Buying autographed items is complete BS. If you're not present during the signing, who's to say that the athlete is the actual person signing? eBay is a sellers market. How can someone sell a ProLine helmet ($199-$259 retail) along with a LT autograph ($189-$225) for less than $300? Sure, there are credible sellers selling items with the personal athlete holograms, but their prices reflect the authenticity.
Besides, being in attendance with the athlete during the signing makes it so much more personal. When guests come to my home for the Sunday game and/or BBQ, not only do they get to see my signed memorbilia, I get to share my own story of how I acquired it getting signed. Who wants to hear this story-
Your buddy: "Wow!, You got an LT signed football. Where'd you get that?"
You: "Oh, I bought that on eBay"

Which brings me to my next post---------

So my son & I are driving down Harbor Blvd looking for a parking spot so we can go to the Manchester Grand Hyatt and hopefully get a few autographs from the visiting Baltimore Ravens team. No sooner do I get a spot on Kettner that we spot a caravan of Chrysler 300s heading towards Market. I start my car back up and start following the cars. My son asks "What are you doing dad? I thought we were parking?" I just say "Be quiet, I know what I'm doing"
I try to follow the 300s into the Hyatt's guest services lot but get cut off by the stupid traffic light. Now I'm starting to shake with anticipation. Light finally turns Green & I high tail it to the Hyatt. I slide my car behind the awaiting 300s by the hotel lobby. Next thing I know a couple of guys are being escorted towards the awaiting Silver 300s. BINGO! It's a couple of Ravens players: Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs & another player I couldn't identify without a jersey on, lol.
I have my son jump out of my car & have him ask them to sign my ProLine. Holy crap, they do so without any problem. I'm staring out my windshield trying to focus my camera to take a few shots as I watch a couple other players jump in cars #2 & #3. "Dang it, my kids taking to long and I'm missing another opportunity for more sigs" As my son gets the helmet back from Suggs (last player to sign), Lewis looks over at me & gives me a nod & throws up the Peace sign. Hell yeah baby!
My son gets back into the car and he asks "Are we done?" Hell no, we ain't done. We follow the cars down PCH towards downtown. Ha, I'm thinking their going to get some food or what ever. So we pretty much follow them, losing car #1. Who cares, it's car #2 & #3 that we haven't gotten to sign the helmet. As soon as the cars stop in front of some restaurant (I didn't bother getting the name), my kid jumps out again. What luck, it's Ed Reed & Todd Heap. Both having no problem signing the helmet either. Just as Heap hands the helmet back to my son, I can clearly hear him ask "Who's your favorite team?" My son replies "Chargers"

#86 Todd Heaps sig-
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s146/RareAirResto/ToddHeap.jpg

#52 Ray Lewis, #55 Terrell Suggs, #75 Jonathon Ogden and #20 Ed Reed (he signed it on the Ravens logo)
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s146/RareAirResto/Ravens.jpg

I got a few quick shots of the players signing my helmet, but none posing with me. I'm so appreciative these guys were all cordial enough to sign without any hassles.

I know I am getting to the point where even though I SAY I would never sell anything, it is VERY tough to say no to ebay with the amount of money these graphs go for these days...

F14, I am sorry you feel that way, but I believe there were important points in that post that should be out there in the open. Sometimes us hobbyists are in constant battle with the ebay hounds and xtra is awesome enough to open up to us. Now if I were nasty about it, then I would agree with you, but it was very civil.

I would like to see the chargers stimulate fan loyalty like the Stealers do. After a home game the players stay around and sign autographs and talk to the fans for hours. This shows that they care about the fans and realise why they are able to play and get paid so much.

I didn't make it either but I found some pictures from the event. Can you identify the players?

http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/3881061#224940575

It's #36 Tre Battle & #94 (formerly #49) Jyles Tucker. Same guys that attended the last Happy Hour. #47 Nick Roach was drafted by the Bears last week maybe that's why he didn't attend the luncheon.
With the injury to Carlos Polk last week @ Jacksonville, Jyles Tucker got bumped from the practice squad to the active roster- Way to go Jyles. With 2 available spots opening in the practice squad, SDSU alumni Antoine Applewhite was called back to duty.

Not sure where you all get your Baseballs and Mini Helmets and other stuff to get signed, but Sports Authority had a coupon in todays paper (Wednesday) and only good for today, if you spend $100 or more you get $25 off (or $10 off $50 or more). The Employee at the register told me that they will probably be having that same coupon in the paper (U.T.) every Wednesday until Xmas

[quote=RandomTask;1772063]How about framing the 3x5 with an 8x10 photo of the player? Depending on how much you want to put into it you could get it framed through CJs, get a name plate of the player for your favorites. Or group sigs together from a specific period (i.e. Super Bowl team) and frame it with a Chargers logo or group shot.

How about collecting close to 100 strands of hair that the player sheds then make a doll, or "action figure" i would like to rather call it. Get a female friend or family member to make a jersey for that figure w/ the appropriate number. Then put the action figures on green astroturf that would be your "football field"

That must have taken you forever to collect 100 autographs!

Carl weathers? Isn't he the guy who played Apollo Creed in Rocky III?

Yes. Carl played Apollo Creed in Rocky, Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky IV as well as other roles in '80s films such as Predator & the short lived Street Justice TV show. But he was also a football standout @ SDSU and later played for the Oakland Raiders during the 1970-71 seasons.

Are you sure Carl Weathers was in Rocky IV? In The third one he fight clubber lang with apollo as his coach or whatever and in the end of that one he dies I think. I might be mixed up on the numbers of the films. In the fourth he fights drago, and the fifth that street fighter guy. . Carl Weathers dies in the fourth. Drago, the Russian fighter, kills him in the ring.

Drago, while Apollo is laying on the mat: "If he dies, he dies."

He died.

Marcus Allen, Carson Palmer, Lendale White, etc. Random question, have any of you ever heard of a LA Raiders wide reciever from the mid to late 80's named Darryl (Dokie) Williams #85, he won a superbowl with them I think. He was my high school history teacher in 11th grade haha. He was friends with allen and tony gwynn and some other big names and got me into some vip places like tony gwynn celebrity golf tourney etc. Super cool guy too.

Brees and Bush are under exclusive signing agreements with GTSM.

Leinart, Palmer and White also have agreements to, but with different companies I believe.

We will never see players like that out here, they only do the big shows where their memorabilia companies take them...

Don Coryell (no brainer on this one...a must!)
Sammy Baugh (90+ HOFer)
Steve Largent (HOFer)
Ronnie Lott (HOFer)
John Jefferson (Chargers great)
Kellen Winslow (HOFer)
John Mackey (Colts SB V team and former Charger)
Robin Tote (QB of the '63 AFL Champion Chargers)

Not sure about Robin Tote, but Tobin Rote died in 2000.

How far is the Horton Plaza from the San Diego airport? I may fly out to the Gates signing from Colorado. I have emailed Signature Collectibles about mailing in my helmets, but they have never done mail in before. It has been almost 10 years since I have been to San Diego. I know a lot of you don't wanna pay prices for Gates. Even though it has not been posted on prices. It would be worth my time and money to get him. I have no other way other than going to team hotel once a year. But that is not guaranteed. MB if you could let me know how the paid signings go there in San Diego. I am really considering flying there. Are paid pretty organizied? He is scheduled for 2 hours, so I would think things would be pretty smooth.

I called Signature Collectibles about The Gates signing on the 22nd. They said the prices should be posted in about 10 days. They said they are finalizing the contract. Airline tickets are to expensive around that time , and not knowing prices for the signing is gonna make it even tougher. MB is there a chance if I mailed the stuff and payment to you you could take it to the Gates signing? I know this is a lot to ask. I have read this Thread for awhile and seem Very trustworthy. I will pay all postage. If you ever need anything from a DenverAuthographs signing that I would attend, I would help you if needed. I would pay you for your time in return. If not, no problem, I will keep trying to work with them on a mail in.

I didnt get to see a lot of the players, but the ones that i know are there other then Merriman are:
Osgood
Goff
Silar
Weddle
Clary

There were a lot more, but thats all i could see from my position. Security was not really letting people at the players entrance for autographs, but i was able to get Osgood in a trade for my parking spot, He came with Goff.

I finally made it down. I think I saw a few people from here but I dont know. Whos the pro with the digital camera and the full size helmets and 2 minis? MB I think.....

Yes, that was me. But I'm no "pro"

I define a "pro" as a person that attends these free public functions/signing with the sole purpose of selling the items through a variety of networks such as eBay, Sports Memorbilia shops, swapmeets etc.... all for revenue.

By my own definition, I'm no pro by any means. All the memorbilia I've collected this past year (I've been only collecting for 10 months) are all still in my personal possession. I have no intention of ever selling the pieces I get autographed as they all have a story behind them on how I acquired said piece.

Kid's News Day will be Tuesday Dec. 4th. Charger players usually are at the corner of Frazee and Friars in Mission Valley.

http://www.knd2007.kintera.org

I went Tuesday morning (the NBC website said players would be there at 6:30am but they didn't show up until close to 9am). The players there were Jacques Cesaire, Mike Scifres and Malcolm Floyd. Guess I missed Ryon Bingham. Got Floyd on an 8x10 and said what's up to the other players. Apparently Adrian Gonzalez of the Padres sold papers downtown.

I'd love to see rivers do another one do you think the what 4 hour line for the last appearance was for osgood or the other guy? No it was people knowing they can sell a rivers mini for $250 each. If its just because all these people love the chargers like us then how come when there is someone who signs for free who's items aren't selling for a lot almost nobody comes out i.e. Olshansky, Phillips etc. As far as this season I'm much more impressed with cromartie, turner, sproles, merriman, phillips, gates, osgood than I am with Rivers.

As I stated in my earlier post, I totally agree. At the free signings, it's obvious who the real fans are as some come out to support the player(s) that show up. Then there are those "eBay fans" that attend the events when it's a marque player (LT, Merriman, Gates, Rivers) signing, yet those guys don't show their faces at a paid signing.
We can all expect the Gates signing to have a mob scene in attendance. I was really debating on even posting it here in the forums. I was contemplating private messaging just those of us* on here that participate regularly. That way it keeps those eBay hounds in the dark, it's not they would do the same for any of us.

Did somebody say Castillo wil be at North County Fair in the next week or so?? That one I KNOW I can make it to!!

The website about AJ's Kids Crane. It doesn't say anything specifically about the Chargers but it IS really close to the Chargers complex! Might be worth heading over there to see what's going on.

I don't think you can worry about it. I put the information out there knowing that you will read it and the eBay hound will too. Give everyone an equal chance! THEY (note I'm not singling anybody out here) will find a way. There were people at the docks of the fishing trip I won trying to get LT to sign stuff even though they weren't contest winners. I personally will more than likely not be attending the Gates signing but wish all people good luck getting their autographs. I just hope that people that do get autographs appreciate how awesome it is to interact with a professional athlete and for the eBay hounds I hope their auctions are failures ;)

Funny you ask...so when i left the drive, i was talking to my gf and was debating whether i should see her or not. I decided i should, and was on a right turn only lane...i made the left turn, cutting off the other car...next thing you know, i saw lights, it was the po po behind me! so yeah, i got pulled over. i blame my dark car tint. but yeah, were good:D.

Ill probably go to gates signing, but im still debating whether its worth it, i have to consider the relative costs of the drive down + signing + wait time + amount of craziness. In addition, its downtown, and i always have bad experiences driving there. If anyone wants to offer carpool, i would be eternally grateful hahaha.

EDIT: oh theres one on the 15th...yeah ill definately go to that one. its after finals..and i can surprise my girlfriend with a visit (she lives down the street from sdsu). hahah take notes guys...:p

I just wanted to say that I love knowing about upcoming signings after everyone else does (ie. my friends and family). Im kinda knew at this. Ive been a charger fan since, dang, I still remember my dad taking me to the human bolt that they did way back when the chargers went to the superbowl, I must of been like 10. Anyways, Ive been a fan since forever, I was even so lucky to be VIP to a bbq with macree, phillips, harris and gates. That was AWSOME. But, I am definetly going to the gates signing a couple of hours early. Hope ebay sellers auctions dont sell. They should leave the autographs to real fans. Anyways, I just bought a authentic helmet that I will start to get signed by as many players as will fit, starting with gates :)

I do like getting pictures with the athletes but I also wonder if they think he's just looking for "proof" that they signed it. Pretty much all my current player 8x10s are inscribed to me personally ("To Ken"). All the proof I need is my memory!

Bingo! Signed memorbilia is so much more personable when the recipient is actually present during the signing.

You know, I've been lurking on this site for about the past 6 months. I've enjoyed attending games with my friends and cheering on the team. And from just reading on this thread, many of you are true fans that collect autographs. I also notice that many of you are against buying signed stuff on ebay. I've been looking on ebay the last few weeks for a charger related christmas present for my fiancee. After reading many of your posts, I started doing some investigations on who's selling stuff. This is what I found out. There must be a small group of friends that get players autographs and sell them on ebay.
First, the seller puts up a 4sale ad on ebay. then after a few people bid on it, the seller then asks his friends to bid on his item, raising the bid amount gradually. It's called schilling the bid & is outlawed by ebay rules. How do I know this? Because I was trying to buy a charger signed leather helmet. After I lost on the bidding, I checked out the winning bidder. The winning bidder AND the seller must do alot of business with each other because of the feedback score on each. Both parties are located in San Diego so they must know each other.
Here's the link to the item I was bidding on. Please tell me if you agree with my assumption that these two people must know each other & are out trying to make a quick dollar

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=180185243901&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=008

Look at the feedbacks on the seller steelerrock and the winning bidder redsoxworldbaby. No doubt in my mind these two are in cahoots

yea those so called "pros" at the blood drive can kiss my a**

I agree the pros take the fun out of this hobby. The "pros" have one person in line and then when they get close to the front. BAM!!!! they bring 5 other guys that are carrying 2-3 full size helmets in each hand. Then they ask the charger player to sign 4 or 5 items. Then I watch them as they line up AGAIN at the front because they have ANOTHER buddy waiting in line.

All I know is when I go to the Gates signing. I will be monitoring the people that jump in line. I am sick of these "pros" coming in after I wait an hour or two and jump the line right before they get to the Charger player. Then they ask the player to sign 2-3 things for them. Then they go back in line and ask the Charger player to sign another 2-3 things. And repeat that so they have their 6-9 items signed. That's what the "pros" do. I do not doubt that someone will do this at the Gates signing.

Make sure everyone waits like the rest of us!!!

Regarding the Shaun Phillips nickname and asking him to sign it being disrepectful, note this article from the UT - http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/chargers/20060930-9999-1s30chargers.html

Before the Chargers-Titans game on Sept. 17, word got back to Phillips that Tennessee offensive coordinator Norm Chow was talking about Merriman in an interview when he said “the other guy” also was a pretty good player. The reference was to Phillips, the Chargers' “other” starting outside linebacker opposite Merriman.

Phillips at first took mild offense to the comment, but it didn't take long for him to decide – with the help of teammates always looking to poke fun at one of their own – it was “kind of funny.”

“Now we've turned it into kind of a joke,” Phillips said, “and I've labeled myself 'The Other Guy.' ”

There are no plans for a Web site or mass-produced T-shirts, but Phillips did say he might get a shirt for himself with his new moniker, and maybe a headband.
“I might take it and run with it,” he said.

LOLZ!!!

I came back from work right now (Pizza Hut) and guess who I delivered to today? None other than Carlos Polk!!! YES! CARLOS POLK!!! dude is HUGE! him and his buddies ordered about 6 pizzas and 20pc wings.

Here is the story:
I JUST clocked out for my 30min lunch break and then I saw the phone ring. We just installed the caller-i.D. and I saw Polk, Carlos and his number.

**Prior to this, there has been stories of drivers going to Marcus McNeill's, Lorenzo Neal's, and Carlos Polk's house**

I jumped and screamed for somebody to give me their password so I can ring him up and someone put in their password and I took his order down. I told the manager that if she cared for my well-being, she would allow me to take THAT delivery and when the time came, I clocked in early from my break and I was about to leave but one of the driver's stopped me and gave me the info:
"Someone's going to answer the door and TELL you to 'Come Inside' (Drivers are supposed to stay in plain sight and stay outdoors.) and you HAVE to do it. He's gonna have his poker friends tell you where to go. Once you get to the kitchen, they're gonna ask you for crushed peppers, parmesan cheese, plates, and napkins."

On my way out, I grabbed two handfuls of Parmesan Cheese and Crushed Peppers. I called WHOEVER I COULD to tell them the GREAT NEWS and then here I am, parked outside his house with 5 NICE CARS outside. Regular looking house, you wouldn't have known he lived there unless I told you. I walked to the door and rang the doorbell. Some random dude answered the door and I try to tell him the total but he stops me and says, "Come inside".

I try not to make tracks on the floors because of the rain so I tippy toe around and I see the poker table and there are a couple guys sitting at the table, most of them I didn't recognize and I see Carlos Polk in a Powder Blue shirt. I try not to be starstruck and I ask the man that answered the door where he would like me to put the pizzas and he turned to "Polk" and asked, "Polk! Where you want your pizzas?!" and he told me on the counter. I set the pizzas on the counter and they all get up except for Carlos Polk and another guy that was bound to a wheelchair. They all hassle me saying, "Ey! You got peppers?! Cheese?! Plates?! AWW! NO PLATES?! Napkins?! PIZZA HUT WITH NO NAPKINS?! Looks like we gotta order from Domino's"

First of all, they were lucky to have gotten the pizzas they ordered because we were out of the crust the entire day. Second, we hooked them up PHAT with 60 pieces of wings when they originally ordered 20...you know, to fuel that "NFL-Size Hunger".

anyways, I hand them the pizzas and while they got the money from "Polk", I stared at the game-balls in the corner of his kitchen. I stared at his awesome TV and home-theatre system. I stared at his fish tank. I stared at HIM! Dude his HUGE!!! Around my height (6'3) and built with LoNeal's neck haha. I was on my way out and I saw his jerseys framed on his wall and everything. Awesome house, awesome guy. I didn't get a signature because he was talking to his friend in the wheelchair still and I didn't want to disturb him.

All in all, I didn't come out with anything but an $11 dollar tip (Great Tip). Screw the signature. It was the fact that I was inside his house that counts. I still have the receipt in my car and his misspelled name "Harlose". Got his phone number, address, everything.

btw, I promised my manager that if we win this weekend, I'm going to buy 2 pizzas for Marcus McNeill, Lorenzo Neal, and Carlos Polk each.

beat that....

Great story allenofray!

I would encourage people to buy autographs from CJ's Sportscards rather than eBay. Most of them have been authenticated and you are helping out a business that has rewarded autograph collectors with reasonable prices.

Rewarded autograph collectors with reasonable prices? CJ's is one of the most expensive stores around, except for the stores in and around stadiums. Plus how do you know where they got some of that stuff. Maybe from some of the "pros" that you guys see around town? You never know, but besides the guys they have signings with, they have to be getting that stuff somewhere, and after they get it it's pretty easy to ship out mass items to get authenticated.

Here we go again guys…

I’ve tried to keep it cool on here and ignore the ignorant comments made by a few of the narrow-minded bloggers, but you guys just don’t ever stop. The “Pros” do read this, but they try to hold up Random Task’s request by keeping the negative statements to themselves, but apparently the majority you guys can’t do the same. Last I checked, the reason the last forum was shut down was because of all the false accusations and irrelevant posts (mostly towards me). Haven’t you guys realized that the reason for this thread being so long is not because of the signings, but all the gossip and bantering you guys do. So just like before, get comfy since I have to set the records straight again.

AztecMaverick – Why are you so curious with who I’m with? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mine you asking. FYI, I was spending quality time with my girlfriend and mother. The rest of the guys are the regulars, just like yourselves, that you see around the signings. As much as you guys are so clicky here, so are we. We see each other around, we don’t annoy each other too much, so we hang out. This is more commonly referred to as a friend. I do know some of them sell autographs, but I’m not going to discontinue our friendship because of what they decide to do for a living / for extra cash. Hell, I know everyone has their own I hate cop story(ies), but you guys (including myself) are buddies or at least cool to a certain degree with Xtra-Innings.

With my collection, I’ve seen a whole lot bigger, but it’s still bigger than what Xtra-Innings claims to still have in his inventory. I’m pretty sure he has collected more over his career, but I guess he’s a victim of “checks and balances.” I currently only have over 100,000 autographed cards, 200+ mini helmets, just hit 20 full sizes, 50+ bats, 20 baseballs (only kept the good and hard to get players – ie A-Rod and Pujols, traded or threw away the rest since the majority of them do bleed, yellow, and/or fade), 10 footballs (take up too much space and doesn’t look as cool as a helmet), 70+ jerseys (just started seriously collecting those a year ago), and 200+ miscellaneous items (i.e. McFarlane’s, (basketball) shoes, cleats, gloves, etc.).

Storing them is also a pain, my stuff is spread out. Obviously the majority of the extras are traded (NOT SOLD), a small portion is at home, and the rest in a storage facility.

Lastly, since you know who I am, who are you (don’t take that the wrong way)? It’s always nice to put a face on a blogger who appears to know what he (or she-I’m not sexist) is doing...............

IDntSellAutos

Meanz Business – I don’t really know what to think of you. You say you want to hold back on the negative comments (which is great), but you’re still the first to throw a “Pro” under the bus. You say you don’t like pros, but you seem pretty close to Xtra-Innings. And that goes for the rest of you, you don’t like people who sell their autographs, especially when attained for free, so why are you guys so nice to him. NEWS FLASH, XTRA-INNING SELLS HIS FREE AUTPGRAPHS (spending change on postage does not qualify as paying for the autograph either).

And MB, why aren’t you a pro, everyone thinks of me as one and yet I think you get better items than me signed and in more quantity. And just like yourself, I do not sell my autographs, hence the name. I wasn’t at the McCree signing (since I had work), but if I was there, I would have got 2-3 photos signed. You on the other hand get 3 authentic full sizes, 3 mini helmets, and a couple of the free photos. According to everyone’s definition of dealer here, you sure fit the bill. Come on, Aztec Maverick called you a Jedi, during all my years of collecting I’ve never been called that. The funny thing is that a lot of the people on this blog don’t like the individuals who find their ways around the line (ie cutting) or get ridiculous amounts of dealer items signed (full size helmets), but they still love you. You are seriously a pro.

Also, do you want to know why nobody really paid much attention to you at the hotel until the end? First, no one really cared why and what you were there for, everyone likes to keep to their own. Second, we didn’t know who you were, so when you walked up with a full size Colts helmet, you were automatically flagged as a dealer, especially with you carrying around the camera. Of course for the individuals, like me, who don’t sell, we know players shy away from the cameras so we decided to shy away from you and the big Canon camera you had around your neck. And the reason why not too many of the regulars like you now is because you found a way to ruin, not one, but two hotels. Yes you, the newbie. Here’s a lesson for you guys, when hotel security tells you NOT to get autographs outside the permitted area, you should listen. When he says you have until 6:00pm to get autographs within the given area, you listen and do as he says in an effort to not ruin autographs for everyone else. This is not an excuse to let your 10 year old son run after a player who is way beyond the designated area. To clarify, when the security told us not to get autographs outside our box, MB decides to send his son to get a couple bench warmers who were definitely out of the designated area. Meanz Business gets his autographs and also gets us all kicked out of the hotel (just before 5:00pm). Oh, it doesn’t even end there. With the Ravens, sure you have a great story and got your guys and left within 5 minutes, sadly we all left behind you. Scoot Magroot, ever wonder why the hotel was empty and why you were kicked out upon arrival? The funny thing is, the hotel had no problems with us asking for autographs within our given area. We did okay, but out of nowhere that evening, security comes up to us and kicks us all out of the hotel. We all wondered why since we all followed the rules and the only reason we got up was to buy food or use the restroom. Low and behold, they said we sent a kid up to some players to get a full size helmet done. Ironically, only one of us had a team helmet, and he’s been sitting with us for the past 5-6 hours. Long story short, I come home and realize that Meanz Business’ success ruins ANOTHER hotel!............................

Xtra-Innings – I know you and I know each other and run in the same circles. With that said, why are you quick to pull the trigger on the other guys you would claim to be at least your acquaintance? If I didn’t know about this blog, I would simply know you as a friend’s uncle who collects and is a real nice and approachable guy. But on these blogs, you take your occasional cheap shots. Come on, is it really necessary for you to make the comment about the Rivers photo being copied? I think everyone knows why you put that big tag across the photo and that the message was intended mainly for me.

And with you selling your stuff, I know it’s hard to maintain the obsession financially, but why do you knock the other guys for doing the same thing you’re doing? Checks and balances right? I don’t sell and I’m not claiming that those who don’t are better people (as the majority of the people on this board are implying), but don’t jump on the message board band wagon.

With you sharing info (i.e. hotel), some guys are obviously sensitive about it. I don’t really care, just be careful who you share with. Also, give them instructions on how not to ruin the hotel. Both you and I know that the hotels here are not the most welcoming and we don’t need these other guys coming there to ruin it and leading to the shut down.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scoot Magroot – Thanks for proving to the board that image rights don’t come cheap. That and I’m not sure if you were taking a shot at me or not, but keep comments like that to yourself. “I won’t say any names, but personally, I don’t sell autos,” yeah that’s real cute. I don’t know when you started posting here, but everyone has already made their false accusations about me being an eBay seller before, I don’t need that riot to begin again. That and congratulations on the car.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SouthernCalBolt – It’s good to see I’m not the only collector on here posting that’s in their early 20s. First, go to Michael’s for the frame job, they always have some type of sale going on for their custom framing. It will still cost a bit, but you’ll get a reasonably fair price for the frame job. Also, you bring up a good point about players looking up their own stuff on eBay, but I hope you realize that a few of the Chargers’ players actually read this blog too. Obviously they don’t post since it would be mayhem, but be careful of the accusations you make on here. Me and Kassim have a mutual friend, and trust me, he’s not too happy with your comment. That and realize that this is an autograph thread, not a gossip column. I’m pretty sure everyone agrees with me when I say there is no need for slamming people here, especially when it’s someone we all know and are fans of. ...........................

IDntSellAutos
12-08-2007, 04:16 PM
Klevmeister – Was the “Kiss…Pros” comment really necessary? What SouthernCalBolt did is one thing, yours is just to another level. He’s talking a little gossip, you’re just blatantly insulting people for no reason. Your actions remind me of the 12 year old me where I use to echo the remarks of the older kids believing it was the cool thing to do. Unfortunately, I realized that my comments were irrelevant and just plain stupid, especially since they were uncalled for and had no real foundation. Again, this is an autograph thread and not a slam people you don’t like thread. If you want to air out opinions such as that, tell Random Task to start you up a thread.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chutesandladder – When I started collecting, I didn’t like people who cut the line. And honestly, no one really does, it just happens. For me, I ask family members and friends to get me the autographs, I’m not going to have them show up at the signing as early as I do. Last I checked, they were doing me a favor and I would like to make it as convenient for them as possible. For example, I will probably bring out my grandfather and mom to the Gates signing. I will definitely not have my 86 year old grandfather and 54 year old mother stand out there with me the whole time. With friends, obviously they can hang, but I will have them show up that early just to get me something. Well if you don’t like people cutting you, just get their earlier than everyone else does. I’ll be at the Gates signing about 8:00am (assuming I wake up), so why don’t you get there at 7:00am so you don’t have to worry about people cutting you. That’s what everyone else does.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In conclusion, I am sorry for sitting in front of the computer and repeating this episode all over again. As best as I and others have tried to prevent our negative comments from landing on this board, it takes two to tango. My comments may be long but necessary. My goal here is to permanently stop the bashing here and to keep this thread strictly dedicated to autographs. We all initially landed on this board for one sole purpose, that is to get information about autographs appearances within the San Diego county. I don’t know how these boards continue to get out of control and become bash forums, but it’s to the point where you guys need to keep your opinions of other people to yourselves (or at least off this board). I assume we are all mature adults here who are capable of censoring what we say, especially since this is done online, we can literally check what we say. Thanks and I’ll see you guys the Gates signing.

I think its plainfully obvious that this thread has deviated from its intended use. I've always looked forward to stealing time away from work, the family, and gf to see what new entries were made, but this was unexpected. Also, I'm not one to just sit idly by and watch drama unfold related to a hobby that I believe everyone thoroughly enjoys (i.e. pro, non-pro, casual or hard core collector, or etc.). Please remember that everyone is in this hobby for their own differing reasons and will always be this way long before we stop collecting. We don't need to agree with each other, but we should learn to respect each other. So I ask that all responses be ceased.

Random,

Give me a call when you get the chance (check your PM) as I want to set up some rules for this and some new threads that can accommodate everyone. I was thinking of creating more than just this one thread. How about the following:

1. Chargers Players Appearances and Autograph Thread #4 - for appearances only of course. That includes announcements and reports.
2. "Xtra innings" thread in honor of XI to report successes, auto pix, etc.
3. Autograph misc and rants

The verbiage doesn't need be as above, but you get the idea. We should probably nominate a couple of us to police the threads. PM me if you want to be one of them. I'm thinking 3-5 people.

Let me know if the majority think this is a good idea and we'll close this one and start anew.

Why do we have to keep starting a new thread??? Is starting a new one going to stop all of the bashing? I say keep this one going. Can't the Message Board Administrator just delete the garbage postings that are not relevant to this thread? Those people who have gripes about one another should take it offline and settle it face to face, man-to-man (or woman or whatever). But this is not the place to do it.

I just wanted to set the record straight on some of IDntSellAuto's comments that were addressed towards myself. I wanted to post up in the old thread, but it got locked before I could.

NEWS FLASH, XTRA-INNING SELLS HIS FREE AUTPGRAPHS.
You're correct, I have no problem with Xtra-Innings. Why? Because unlike you, he's more than willing to share his experiences & knowledge with the rest of us fans on here. Though he may sell particular items, he's also willing to share any insight on how to obtain autographs and/or give out pertinent information on scheduled appearances. By your own admission, you stated that you and your buddies view this thread to gain knowledge on future signing. Have you posted anything in return? How about posting info on which hotel visiting teams will be staying at?
Days prior to the Ravens coming to town, a question was posted-
does anyone know where the Ravens are staying yet?
No doubt you read his post, yet choose not to disclose any kind of info or response. Helpful suggestion #1- Why not participate in this forum by sharing your knowledge & info on future appearances & signing instead of just lurking & only posting when you feel like your being attacked?

Better items? Quite possibly. I don't buy replica helmets, I prefer ProLines. I buy Wilson "Duke" footballs for my collection over the regular Wilson Authentic line. Is that what you mean by better items? If not, please give more detail to your insinuation. As for having items in quantity, who wrote "I currently only have over 100,000 autographed cards, 200+ mini helmets, just hit 20 full sizes, 50+ bats, 20 baseballs, 10 footballs, 70+ jerseys (just started seriously collecting those a year ago), and 200+ miscellaneous items (i.e. McFarlane’s, (basketball) shoes, cleats, gloves, etc".
Yes, I had brought 3 full size helmets to the McCree signing (2006 team signed, 2007 team signed & a Jaguars helmet) Why? Because McCree is a member of both the 2006 & 2007 Chargers as well as being a Jaguar during his first 2 years in the NFL. If I had gotten McCree's autograph on those helmets prior, I wouldn't have bothered bringing them. Look back at my post on page 32 that I wrote just after the Blood Drive held several weeks ago.

I pretty much got the entire team. The only players that have eluded me thus far are: Stephen Cooper, Lorenzo Neal & Marlon Mcree.
So chances are, I'll have those very same items with me again this Tuesday at the Cooper signing.
3 Mini's? Either you need to get your facts straight, or your buddies need to learn how to count properly as my son brought only 2 mini's.
AztecMaverick titled me a Jedi because I'm fortunate enough to accomplish many of my set goals. You may have never been called a Jedi, but you sure have been referenced in other names that aren't too flattering.
And if you need to refresh your memory, AztecMaverick's quote can be found on page 31-

-Meanz Business must be a jedi. I would see him behind me, then an hour later in front of me, then behind me again in the same line! I was dumbfounded! I'm just playin man it was good to see you and all the others...
In your eyes I probably am a pro. Probably because the manner in which I amplify professionalism.

Do I want to know? No, not really. I was pretty much able to ascertain why no one paid much attention to me. But you seem to have a very good recalection of this said event. Is it because I'm a very good looking guy? Sorry, I like girls big boy.
I show up at the Marriot with a single Colts helmet and I'm a dealer. So what does that make you & your buddies carrying multiple mini's, footballs, photographs, magazines etc..?
As for my camera, it's not to take photos of the players signing my item. It's so that I can get a photo with the athlete themselves.
Helpful suggestion #2- Have your friends bring a camera to future events. That way when they sell the item on eBay, atleast it'll be the actuall item 4-sale and not a "similar item" because they used someone else's photo or an outdated one.
Did you choose to so graciosly to forget pertinent info regarding the Colts hotel? I walked up to your little clique and asked directly about how getting autographs worked. 1 of your boys scoffed at me as if he had some foriegn object shoved up his ass, another said "I don't know, I've never done this before" & you basically just ignored me.
Next time someone asks you or your buddies for proper etiquette on obtaining autographs, take the time to answer them. Stay in your box? What does that mean? You guys have been known to run around rampant throughout the building with cell phones and/or walkabout talkies communicating with each other constantly "I've got so & so at the East exit. Get over here quick" So this so-called box must be the entire building.

Long story short, I come home and realize that Meanz Business’ success ruins ANOTHER hotel!............................
How are you blaming me for you & your buddies getting kicked out? Read my success story again. My son & I never entered the hotel. We were out in the Rotunda for less than 1 minute.

If I remember correctly, you got several items (including a f/s replica helmet) signed by Gates during the Blood Drive. Why do you find it necessary to not only attend, but to show up at 8am before the dealership even opens for business for his upcoming signing since you got items done at the blood drive?

I've always wondered and might consider this when im like rich with extra money to throw away (lol)...someone should pimp out a dodge charger...

get a blue one, get charger bolt decals on the sides. add a "s" to to the "charger." replace the emblem with one of them throwback charger shields. tint the windows and have some a big bolt decal on the back window. on the hood, add a shield or a giant 21. and on the back bumper put "chargers"

what do you think? oh yeah, for rims, make sure theyre colored with alternating gold, blue, and powder spokes.

My first question is how do you remove an autograph from a helmet, i have two signatures from the same player? I need the room! hahaha What happens if there isn't sufficient room for a player to sign, say gates? Should I buy a new helmet? But If i do that, then I will have two helmets that need his sig and other players signatures. MADNESS! I need help...Thx

I bought a game used Schutt helmet from www.nflauctions.com (http://www.nflauctions.com) earlier this year. Tomlinson had worn it last year on Nov 5th last year against the Browns. It was the throwback style. If you do a search, I posted pictures of it several months ago. Just after Halloween, I was approached by a gentleman that offered me a decent amount of money, so I sold it off.

Excellent question!! I'm more of a low-end collector, so I'm nowhere near the mighty collections of MB, IDon'tSell and Xtra (and that's said out of envy, not sarcasm...haha).

I have a nice 11x14 signed by Joe Montana and Jerry rice (that my Mother In Law paid the $250 for me to meet them at a seminar in Anaheim a couple years ago...Thanks Mom!!), and another 11x14 of Nolan Ryan beating on Robin Ventura in the famous brawl in 1991. I ordered that one through Ryan's charithy website, didn't get it signed myself.

My favorite Chargers peice is a simple cheer card that the U/T inserts in their newspapers on game days at the Q. One side has a great shot of Kris Deilman holding Eric Parker up in the air by his shoulder pads after a score against Buffalo in 2005 I managed to get them bot to sign it at the 2006 Fan Fest. I have it matted and framed, and I look at it often...LOL.

My top 3:

1. My very first autograph experience that started me down this crazy hobby in 1996. I met Tony Gwynn and Rickey Henderson and had them sign a L/S bat for me. Rickey was very nice despite what I heard about him back then.

2. Ken Caminiti's last homerun ball as a Padres. He hit a 2 run homer (Finely on 1st) in the 1998 NLCS against John Smoltz. Ball girl threw the ball in the stands and I was the lucky one who caught it. Unfortunately we lost the game that day. Anybody remember that game where Kevin Brown came out from the bullpen to serve up a hr to the pinch hitter? It dawned on me that it was his last hr in a Padres uniform when he left for Houston after that season and I checked to see if he hit hr's after that against the Braves or Yankees. Nada.

3. Tony Gwynn game used bat, Hit # 2956 (Black L/S). I bought it right after the 3000 hit season and thought I was crazy to throw down $650 at the time. Good thing I did. I also have a game used jersey that he had 2 hits against Greg Maddux, and g/u helmet.

Honorable mentions:

For obvious reasons, Dan Fouts signed jersey and football when I first met him. This was my very first CJ's auto experience. I was nervous as heck when I met him.

2006 Chargers team helmet that you all have seen with my gf and I. We each have our own.

Alright guys, I'm trying not to be that negative on here, I just want to get a couple things straight...

Meanz Business - First, are your sarcastic comments really necessary? I have my 2 cents on your other comments, and in respect for everyone's request, check your PM later.

But for clarification, what's the point of me repeating autograph information you guys have already posted. Apparently, you guys find out the same things as I do at the same time, if not sooner. I've only had one real chance to post info you guys didn't know about (CY and A. Gonzalez at Fashion) and I did, ask Random. That and I do find out about other signings going on outside of San Diego, but what's the point of posting it on here. MB, you're the only person I know of who would ever waste money to fly across the country for an autograph.

With hotel info, seriously, why do you feel entitled to that information. Last I checked, this was a Chargers Autograph Thread. If you want info, do the dirty work that all us do to find out where these teams are staying. If I spend countless hours trying to find out where these guys are staying, why would I just give you the info? It's not like I have ever received that kind of information from you. That and I didn't find out about the Ravens until Saturday afternoon. So after I have spent all that time trying to find these guys, am I really going to run to my computer, turn it on, wait for it to load, etc. so I can tell you where they are staying? When you really think about it, that would add at least 30 minutes to my life that I really can't afford to waste. As all you collectors know, 2 minutes is huge in terms of autograph time.

The quantity of my collection, well that was collected over 10 years (4 year layoff - I was more interest in girls than autos while in high school). What do you expect, I'm obviously going to have a lot.

Amplify professionalism? Yeah, you accomplished your goal by cutting in and out of the line. I'll be honest, I did the same thing, but not as often as you did. And honestly, how many times did you cut in front of your fellow bloggers?

And you questioning my sexuality, that was real cute and mature. Do you get your material from your kid?

Walkie-talkies, really? I don't know anything about that. When I say box, do you remember when the security guard was talking to ALL of us and ordered us to remain within the given area? Newbie or not, it wasn't to complicated of a direction.

Why am I going to Gates, especially since I already got him on a full-size at the blood drive? One, I want to get him on a couple McFarlanes. Second, I have an 11x14 of him shooting a jump shot when he was playing for Kent State. Third, I need to finish off a team helmet. Lastly, I'm pretty sure I'm going to get him on more helmets (minis and fs) to eventually trade them, not sell. As I have told all you guys before, I'm always trading my stuff (mostly from LA collectors). I'm pretty sure my friend would have never traded me his autographed authentic Shaquille O'Neal Miami Heat jersey for a Tony Gwynn signed card... You have give something to get something.

Again, I hope all things are clear now. For me personally, I will do my best to refrain from the negative comments on here. But please, don't expect me just to sit back if you guys are going to take your cheap shots. Like I previously said, we are all mature adults here and we all have the capability to control what comes out our mouth (or type), it's time for all of us to use this "talent." Thanks and I hope we can put this behind us. Thanks.

I'm sorry to post this but I felt it was important to respond to these comments.

First of all, my comments were being directed to anyone who cuts in line at the last minute because it was UNFAIR. I was not singling out IDONTSELL because I didn't know he cuts in line at the last minute. But its quite obvious that he does cut by the way he responded. I mean who is so HYPERsensitive that they are compelled to respond to every single negative post on this thread? And who is so paranoid that they think every negative stuff on this post is only being directed at him/her.

Second, if you don't like people cutting in front of you, then why do you do you think its okay to do it to other people? Yeah you say it sucks--but I do it anyway and that's it. All I am saying is you should have respect for the people who wait the whole time and just do the right thing.

Do you think its fair to all the people that have waited in line for hours and then you bring your buddies (who are mostly young healthy guys/girlfriends) or younger siblings at the front of the line at the last minute?

Third, if you don't want to have your grandmother waiting in line maybe you shouldn't have dragged them down so you can get another duplicate photo /football/helmet autographed. Me personally, I'm not that desperate that I would PIMP my grandmother/mother/sick brother/etc for another autograph. If they can't even stand in line, its probably not a good idea for you to bring them.

Sure your "grandmother" might want to meet them. But would you really bring them to this event if its not safe for their health? I mean I see all these kids trying to get chargers player autographs during fanfest. You know the same fanfest where all the kids were being shoved and pushed. I would never PIMP my kid out or risk putting them an environment where they could get hurt. Same goes with all my family (including my mother and grandmother)

All I am saying is if you can't wait in line, maybe it isn't a good idea to PIMP grandma. This is especially true when they are not even going to keep the autograph. (Please note IDONOTSELL: I am NOT directing this last comment ONLY to you (so please don't get defensive) I am just saying this because you said that you ask family members to get stuff for you, and that extra stuff you use is used for TRADE. That means the extra stuff it NOT for you.

Please don't justify what you know and admitted is wrong.

PS I'll come at 7 AM. Just let me know who you are so I can be sure to ask everyone that you cut behind me as my "family and friends" right behind me in line.

I think we should split the thread...
One for strictly appearances and then another for Chargers memorabilia and opinions/successes.

Alot of this is important to get out in the open so people learn from it and we can have an open debate. But prolly not in an appearances thread...

Chutesandladders, seriously what's your deal? Do you need a hug?

Sorry guys, can't resist the sarcastic comment.

Apparently there's a couple more people who have issues with my comments. In respect to everyone, please pm me with them. Is that fair guys?

If i were you, PM this message please, kiwibolt threatened closure. All this nonsense is taking the fun out of collecting autographs. It's getting too "political."
Nothing wrong with discussion, that's what the forums are for- it was the multiple threats of violence and personal attacks that were the cause for concern.

Hello, I have a few good autographs from here in Colo. I have collected for 13 years.
My Favorite fooball autographs are, J. Elway Minis, T. Davis & Elway Signed Mini Jerry Rice 49er Mini, LT 07 Mini ( From American Icon Private earlier this season), Darrent Williams Oklahoma State Mini and D. Broncos Mini, Charles Woodson Michigan & Raiders Mini.

Basketball, Dr.J signed Basketball, ( Got him in Denver during 05 NBA All-Star weekend), D. Wade Basketball again in 05 @ All Star weekend in Denver, Jerry West Signed 8 X 10, Magic Signed 8 X 10, AI signed 8 X 10, Melo Signed Panoramic, Kobe 8 X 10's.

Baseball, Mr Gwynn comes to Colo. Spgs W/ SDSU to lay Air Force each season, My Gwynn signed Big Stick bat and Signed HOF '07 Baseball. Tulowitzki signed Baseball, and Tom Glavine.

This is just a portion of my favorites. I have so much. I have done hotels, apperances, golf tournaments and airports. I do not sell my autos either. I am a true sports fan who collects for fun and the memories. Most of mine come in person or paid or free signings. I love The Chargers here in Colorado. Antonio Gates is my favorite NFL and Chargers player.

You guys are lucky to have these players, and great ones at that, come out and do a lot of free signings. There is not a lot of Broncos that do this. DJ Williams is the best Bronco to do a free one at a Sprint Store this year. Some of the Guys have a weekly radio show or TV show, and that is hit and miss w/ no Guarantee of autographs. Darrent Williams had a weekly radio show last year on Monday evenings. He was great and God rest his Soul. He was VERY nice. I am so glad I got his autograph. We ahve Dealers here as well. No different than any other place. I know collectors and dealers both. Just try to get along with everyone that I can. It would be nice to see C.Bailey and Cutler do some free signings, not very likely. Man you guys get Gates, Rivers, Jackson, S. Phillips, Castillo.

One other thing, Is anyone going to the Paid Gates Signing? I would like to mail my 07 Chargers mini to be Signed. I will pay for it. Is there anyone trustworthy enough? If so, please send me a PM.

What a great 4th quarter today huh? Glad to see they made players when needed most. I enjoy reading your guyes stories and wish I could attend from here in Colo. Listening to you true fans will do for now.

What is everyones most prized piece of memorabilia signed or unsigned?

Mine....a game used signed baseball jersey.

anyone else wanna say?

I have been collecting Memorabilia for about 4 years now. My first autograph was from Ronnie Lott. My Prized possession would be my 4 auto'd authentic jerseys of Kurt Warner,Marshall Faulk,Torry Holt, and Isaac Bruce.

One of my best experiences at a show was meeting Torry Holt at the NFL Experience in Houston TX. He signed a SB34 Football for me.

One of the nicest people to ever sign for me was Emmitt Smith, Although it ran me a CRAP load of money to have a Ball and Jersey signed, he was the Greatest!!! spoke to him for about 2 to 3 minutes. A very classy guy who gave eveyone in front of him his undivided attention.

I have been lucky enough to get LT on a Jersey,Ball,Mini helmet, foto, and Mcfarlane Fig. We most recently won a contest to attend the Antonio Gates BBQ and had 2 jerseys signed by him (Old Navy Blue and PB ) and his sports fig by Mcfarlane.

I started collecting sports figures in 2001 when mcfarlane figs first came out. I had over 300 figs when I decided to sell them and collect autographs. I started with mini helmets and now have pretty much settled on Authentic Jerseys of my Favorite players and Game Balls.

You got some nice stuff there djmixer - If I collected basketball I would want to have Dr. J, Bird, Magic and MJ. I almost shelled out 1500.00 for a signed MJ jersey a few years back, now I wish I would have pulled the trigger on that deal.

Since I just got Gates recently i won't be attending his signing or else I would have no problem helping you out. I'm sure someone here will help out.

Alright guys I really don't want to split threads because I have a hard enough time keeping up on 2 threads (Chargers and Padres). I really like hearing people's stories of success and failures. I especially love seeing pictures of people's collections. I really don't want to have to look all over for 3 threads. My intention of this thread was to keep all the appearance and autograph information in one place. The first page is always going to be the latest basic information on the who's and where's. I will continue to update this thread and I don't plan on shutting this one down.

If anyone feels like they are being "attacked" please contact a moderator by using the top right "exclamation point" icon.

These threads have gotten bigger and bigger (#1 was 94 replies, #2 972 replies and now # 3 at 651 and counting). PLEASE delete some of the older and off topic posts (find an old post, hit the edit button - with the scissors, then select the "Delete Message" bubble in the Deletion Options and push the "Delete this Message" button.

Let's try to keep this thread positive! The Chargers just won, the holidays are almost upon us and there are numerous appearances in the next couple weeks. I will be attending the Cooper signing on Tuesday. If anyone would like to have a "pow wow" as far as this thread goes I will be there and we can talk about it in person but there's no reason to take up any more cyberspace. If you don't know what I look like I'm 6'2" white guy with a goatee and I'll be wearing a powder blue Chargers cap and a black "man purse". I also plan on bringing my Christmas card with my picture with me, my wife and LT. It turned out really cool except the goony picture of me.

My prized autograph is the LT 8x10 I got on the fishing trip. Even though I won an autographed authentic jersey the photo is so much more "valuable" to me personally.
