Good article, I am just a little shocked by these comments......
It's not that serious, really, Hardwick said yesterday. It's really not. Nothing is. I don't want to get philosophical, but where are we going? Who cares? It's fun. Even if you're losing, it's still fun. It's a good time out there. Enjoy it.
. . . Nick is just Nick. There's definitely just that presence out there. When stuff isn't going right, he's like, 'Screw it, let's go. We'll get this done.'

Hardwick is awesome....and apparently he is to the Chargers what Brian Giles is to the Padres....
Hardwick is known not only to vomit before most games but also to dance in the buff before throwing on his uniform.

If he wasn't a good player, then you might equate them with lack of effort and dedication.
But he's obviously a good NFL player, which requires those attributes. So being a little more loosey-goosey in that context can be a good thing. He's going to go out and play hard regardless of the score, and enjoy the experience of being a pro sports athlete playing in front of thousands of fans.

yea. it's good to stay loose, and have a short memory when it comes to bad plays. it's a good thing to play each down with a fresh mind

He seems to be exhibiting the same sort of enthusiasm for the game some of the all-time greats have over the years. I think he has the right frame of mind for this team. Seems like they've been too tightened by Norv's "approach" and they've been resorting to after-hours excesses to loosen up. However, when those good times run into game day, you have to take a step back and ask yourselves 'what the heck is going on?'.
A man will face the facts and admit to himself that he's not doing his best. Often times, this requires a fresh start and its a good idea to accompany this new start with a new attitude. And when that new attitude gets contagious....? :Bolt::Bolt::Bolt:
Rock on, Hardwick!

Wow, the Chargers have been "tightened up" by a coach with one of the easiest going reputations in the NFL following a coach with one of the most authoritarian reputations? That's strange.
I've heard hundreds of people say that players take advantage of Norv's easy going ways, but this is the first hypothesis that Norv is too restrictive.
And if you're talking about the three hours of drinking on Friday night (and being a half hour late for the midnight curfew) before the Sunday game in Minnesota, Kevin Acee addressed that in his mailbag. That also happened on regular occasion when Marty was the coach. It wasn't deemed "newsworthy", though. And I don't think that being out until 12:30 instead of midnight on Friday night had anything to do with the Chargers performance on Sunday.
There's something wrong with the Chargers players if they've "tightened up" with Norv. The Chargers need to "tighten up" several more notches if they hope to achieve any of their goals in 2007 IMO.
That being said, there is always a place for a hard working solid player who also has the ability to loosen the team up. :Bolt:

Good article, I am just a little shocked by these comments......sounds like manny ramirez when the red sox were down 3 games to 1 to the indians in the playoffs
the difference is hardwick doesn't have a championship backing up his words like manny did

no, but you do see what they got out of it...yeah, sometimes that kinda talk can help
if hardwick's like manny in the sense that they talk but they act differently than their words
manny will act and talk like he just doesn't give a ****, but then he'll usually go out and play his ass off

Hardwick brings a year and a half of experience with rivers back and also brings an offensive leader back.

now he needs to bring s sexy BACK TOMORROW!!! we must win NEXT 2 against subaverage opps on the ROAD, if we think we are going more than 1 and out this year, we must prove to OUR TEAM that we can win on the road, our team must belive in itself.... But it is nice the media is off our backs, but should we win next 2 weeks, we will be back into the top 5-6 teams in NFL, as we will have won 7 or last 9 games!!!

I'm not referring to anyone in particular, but this board has gone pretty far with its constant psycho-analysis of the Charger team (or should I say psycho-over-analysis? ;)). Did you see this guy turn his shoulder away from that guy during the game? What does it mean? Why are the Chargers so obsessed with Marty? Etc...It's all in good spirit (and gives us something to talk about), but sometimes it seems like people think the Charger players are 5 year olds with no cognitive abilities or any self-awareness of their emotional states.
