I didnt know i should have put this in "Around the NFL" thread or here in the smack shack maybe it belongs in in off topic.

In a highly publicized incident, on the last night of Carolina Panthers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carolina_Panthers) training camp in 1997 Collins used the offensive racial slur "n word" in reference to Black (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African-American) teammate Muhsin Muhammad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhsin_Muhammad) while in a drunken state at a bar in Spartanburg, SC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spartanburg%2C_SC)(Although these claims have not been verified.) Supposedly, Collins also inadvertently slurred offensive lineman Norberto Garrido (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norberto_Garrido), who is of Hispanic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hispanic) descent. This resulted in Collins being punched in the eye by Davidds-Garrido. Collins had stated, in an intoxicated state, that he thought the use of the racial epithet would help him and his teammates bond.

Rehabilitation
Not long after signing with New York, Collins decided to seek treatment for his alcoholism. He entered a rehabilitation clinic in Topeka, Kansas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topeka%2C_Kansas). No sooner did Collins get his personal life back on track than his professional career followed. Collins started the 1999 season as the Giants' second-string quarterback, but soon claimed the starting job. In the 2000 season Collins led the Giants to Super Bowl XXXV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Bowl_XXXV), where they lost to the Baltimore Ravens (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltimore_Ravens). During the 2001 season, Collins set a single-season NFL record with 23 fumbles

So it's cool to drag someone down because of a past addiction?

The point is ,Collins over came a struggle and became very succsessful.just because hes a back up doesnt mean he cant be succsess ful.I left the thread vague to see responses influenced by your own ideaology.I also once, went through addiction and a successseful rehab about the same time Collins did.

What prompted me to start this thread was another thread about who would we want the Chargers to face as a QB VY or KC.
