Three of the four nationally-televised games played in Week One of the NFL regular season will feature traditional division rivalries.
Joining Redskins-Giants on Thursday night and Vikings-Packers on Monday night will be Broncos-Raiders (http://www.denverpost.com/rapids/ci_8758120), live from the Black Hole, according to the Denver Post.
The Vikings-Packers and Broncos-Raiders games will form the traditional (i.e., three years and counting) Week One Monday night double-header on ESPN. It’s the second time for the Vikings and the Raiders to be involved in the two-pack of MNF games.

The Indianapolis Colts will christen their new stadium in Week One of the 2008 regular season via a Sunday night game on NBC.
The NFL announced on Monday that the Colts will host the Chicago Bears, in what will be a rematch of Super Bowl XLI.
In Super Bowl XLI, the Colts defeated the Chicago Bears in February 2007 in Miami.

no offense to the nfl, but what a completely piece of crap opening weekend
no NE or SD in primetime? or even jags?
skins at giants i can excuse because NY won that right by winning the SB
but you're going to throw the 4th best team and 3 non playoff teams on MNF's 1st week? and then you're going to throw another non playoff team vs a at best 5th place team on SNF's first week?
what kind of bull**** opening week schedule is this
it's almost complete horse ****.
i guess i did mean offense to the nfl after all
they should be embarrased at this craptastic opening primetime schedule

Bitter, are we?i'd be saying the same thing if they would have picked the texans and the ravens, instead of broncos raiders
i just want to see some epic matchups ya know?
why did the nfl throw these pieces of **** matchups at us?
hell i'd rather watch ****ing new orleans on primetime again lol, and they also missed the playoffs

More people watch the Broncos then the Chargers. The Broncos have more fans thats why we are always on primetime
Is that why the Bronco fans were leaving the stadium before the 3rd Q ended while being completely demolished?

More people watch the Broncos then the Chargers. The Broncos have more fans thats why we are always on primetimei mean you guys were good once upon a time, by why get rewarded now for being agarbage organization? the raiders actually have a fanbase around the world, even though they're a really horrible franchise right now...but the broncos have never had the raider type of fanbase following.....
i'm guessing the broncos are only in that game because espn wanted to see if they could salvage any ratings out of the raider fans after all these free agent signings possibly instilling a new confidence in their fan base
it's kinda like when oakland hosted sd in 06's MNF double header, the chargers just happened to be on the schedule , and espn just wanted to milk some ratings out of raider fans cause they know after week 1, the raider fans expectations drop back down to ****.
so basically you're in the chargers role of 06
anything less than a 27-0 shutout means your season is a failure...good luck! lol

The best game is the Giants v Wash. The others are a joke, especially when you factor in that they are getting prime-time love for their pathetic previous season.
The NFL is a joke anymore, when it comes to prime-time matchups. It has become as mundane as some of the games the are played on regular Sundays. It's nothing more than a popularity contest, yet they are not even showing the most popular teams.
Chicago v Indy would have been something, if the Bears had not hit the crapper last year. Now they are just trying to ride that same "2 black coaches" wave, even though it already ran its course. I wonder if they will show the same love for Pitt, Cleveland, or Cincy, when they face each other?!?!? The have black HC's too, but I guess they don't rate as high.

BOWLEN DOESN’T LIKE RESEEDING IDEA (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/03/31/bowlen-doesnt-like-reseeding-idea/)
Posted by Mike Florio on March 31, 2008, 4:46 a.m.
As the NFL’s owners prepare to take up the possibility of reseeding the playoff fields, not every owner is on board with the idea.
And at least one of them is sounding off about it.
“I think it’s a very bad idea (http://www.denverpost.com/headlines/ci_8751817),” Broncos owner Pat Bowlen said about the proposal, according to the Denver Post.
“Especially when you’re in a competitive division,” Bowlen said. “It can be tough to have a good record when you have so many tough teams in your division. In my mind, the AFC West is a very competitive division. The fans are into the rivalries that exist in our division.”
Under the current proposal, teams No. 3 through No. 6 would be seeded in round one of the playoffs without regard to whether they won their division. The controlling factor would be the teams’ won-loss records.
“I’m not criticizing the commissioner, other than to say it doesn’t work in Denver,” Bowlen said. “And it probably doesn’t work in Philadelphia, or teams that have longtime rivalries.”
Last year, the New York Giants would have hosted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round, even though the Bucs won the NFC South and the Giants didn’t win the NFC East.
In 2005, the New England Patriots would have been the No. 6 seed, despite winning the AFC East, since their 10-6 record was worse than the 11-5 mark generated by the Pittsburgh Steelers and the 12-4 mark of the Jacksonville Jaguars. And the Jaguars would have been the No. 3 seed, ahead of the Cincinnati Bengals, the AFC North champs that year.
But the Jags and the Steelers were the beneficiaries that year of being in otherwise weak divisions. The Ravens and Browns were each 6-10 in the AFC North, and that Titans were 4-12 and the Texans 2-14 in the AFC South.
So Bowlen’s point is a valid one. A wild-card team can fatten its record up by playing four games against basement-dwellers, securing home-field advantage over a team that had to scratch and claw for a playoff berth in a division that was competitive from top to bottom.
Besides, the reality of teams coasting down the stretch won’t be cured by reshuffling the deck in spots three through six. The bigger problem arises after teams lock up the top two spots in the conference, and then coast home over the last few weeks of the season. The current proposal does nothing to fix that.

What a horrible schedule. I guess putting teams with traditionally larger fanbases on TV is more important than showing good, competitive football. Unfortunately, it waters down the product as a whole. Nice job NFL, you guys are slipping and fast.

Im assuming that we will get real primetime this year. We have been one of the few consistant teams the last couple of years. If the NFL wants to open with a team that has won 19 games the last 5 years and pretty much killed there team with overpaid players, it just doesnt get any worse.

i like the raiders and broncos matchup for opening day.
if raiders could win its good for the NFL, and it would be good hype, for chargers just to gain some good reputation considering everyone thinks the AFC west is weak, if raiders can establish themselves, it wont hurt us.. but it could get the afc west some respect.
if broncos win its back to businees for shanahan again this year (yea right)
and chargers wont be phazed one bit by it.
i always like watching raiders donks, rembmber the snow game,
or last year shanahan pulled the call timeout while the ball is being snapped on the last play of the game during the field goal attempt.
either way, i am curious what the afc west has to offer, so to watch this divison matchup.. is just the start of the 08 season for me..

and rivers shines on primetime. hopefully he will keep the smack down, and the TD's up this year.
last year against denver, he owned them.
i think rivers with chambers and vj and ep and gates and buster and nanee, floydachandlosgood and compnay we are talking 35+ tds this year.

The opening day prime time lineup is reeeeediculous! Not that I wanna see any more Patridiots play, they were 18-1 *teehee* last year. That should rate them a better lineup. IMHO
