Don't even think about it this year. Prepare to be crushed under the weight of the true and proud. The fans who stick it out through thick and thin. Either join us in unity, or be cast out into the dark blue abyss.
That is all.

If the baggers were predominantly fine fans having a little tongue-in-cheek fun over an ugly situation, Mr. Charge (aka, Iron Maiden meets Natrone Means) provided a sensational counterpunch to our satchel-wearing brethren. He scared even the Raiders fans.
Don't take it too seriously, Good Days. Charge is more subtle than you suspect.

I posted this on the SOSD Forum the other day and I'll post it here:
One more thing, win or lose this season...no more bagheads, Marty chants, LT/Rivers/Norv doubters, etc.
That was disgusting to see and hear.
The practice of wearing a bag over one's head is forever synonymous with the Saints and has NO business being associated with the Chargers...especially in this day and age.
For those who thought wearing a baghead was funny-
Fans of other teams were laughing AT you, not with you...I'm certain your actions put a BIG smile on the faces of Raiders, Broncos, Chief and Patriots fans.
If you followed the Chargers, then you know how Norv Turner, LT & Company felt about these actions. Good way to support your team. Clap. Clap.
To the Faithful True-Blue Die-Hard Chargers fans you were a spineless disgusting disgrace.

Reconsider.
If Raiders, Broncos & Chief were short on smiles, then there's no doubt that those fans took pleasure in seeing & hearing about spineless Chargers fans melting down so early in the season.....and late in the season regarding LT's heart for the game of football & winning.
No differently than how some Chargers fans comment and take delight about how the Bronco & Chief fans left Invesco & Arrowhead Stadium well before the end of the game, etc.
I fail to find the humor in seeing a Chargers fan displaying a baghead to this day. It's inexcusable.

During the Charger dry spell last year, TheCharge led a spectacular thread campaign to quell the baghead insurrection (which, again, was more wink wink than treason). Truly epic stuff, including stampeding sheep, tactical nukes, and several references to the recently demoted Pluto. The thread might have stretched some 200 pages before the Mods finally put it out to pasture. A fine showing by TheCharge. More than earned his keep.

If we start losing early the bagheads will be back in force. Too many of you cristened this team as a perrenial Super Bowl contenders.
When this team fails as it always has in the past, the boo birds will come out.
That's just the way it is. We expect a SB win and anything less is not good enough. Some of you haven't been around long enough or are even old enough to know what's gone on in the past.
Take it one game at a time and hopefully we'll come out of the gates fast and keep on rolling.

All of this is academic anyway. Bolts have some projects ahead of them. Pats have given us a few fits of late. Need to pay them back in kind. Conversely, the colts are not gonna take kindly to our owning their tails. That'll be a scrum. And recall our green friends from the meadowlands been spoiling our beach parties with some regularity in recent years. We owe them and their new qb some gridiron thank yous. And frankly i wanna see weddle lay the lumber on Dwayne Bowe. The rascal was all over us last year.
Gonna be a good year. Time for some football.

all that it was done as a joke is BS. i was here too and know how it started. the team went 1-3 and people started tgrowing people under the bus, complaining, putting bags on thier heads (to show they were embarrassed of their team, whether a joke or not) and even some gave up on the season altogether. and i bet those same people acted like they supported the team the whole way. through thick and thin. of course, its just their opinions. but that may be part of the reason many other charger fans think of the people who post on this board to be "bandwagon". i know there are many true fans here. but if the bolt fans on the outside looking in were saying that, i could imagine what rival fans were thinking.
i could understand if we went 1-15 or something, but after 1-3 with a very good team, people here are already symbolically hiding their faces as charger fans. no faith. its kind of sad. just my opinion.

Official BHC Press release:
Boltcorpse shall return on the 31st of this month, one week before the first preseason game. On that glorious day he shall reveal the mojo strategy for the coming season to guarantee us a super bowl win. the Bag did well, but as we all know was hexed by the patriots in the AFC championship game.
To all the bag bashers there are different opinions on this. There are those of us who have discovered its true power. Unfortunate to others it was merely a more lighthearted expression of the doomsday scenarios that were running rampant early in the season. We do however hope all shall see the light this year.

Not really. Everybody has the freedom of speech, regardless if you like it or not.
A weak, inadequate and typical response by the Vocal Minority.
Unable to explain the comedy in berating the Chargers, they pull the "Freedom of Speech" card.
Freedom of Speech is not the issue here.
Knowing and constructively supporting the Chargers - The teams, the staff and the players - is the issue.
Exercise your Freedom of Speech and explain how an offensive paperbag on a Chargers fan is humorous. Especially given this team...and at this day and age.
Enlighten us as to how booing Philip Rivers, at home, in the 4th game of the season is comical.
Educate us as to how we are to find humor in hearing Charger fans chanting "Marty, Marty, Marty"....or questioning LT's heart.
It's the same crowd that denounces AJ Smith's "ego" and calls for AJ's head on a platter, along with inaccurately questioning AJ's moves on draft day.
Perhaps this is due to an apparent lack of knowledge of the Chargers- The changes, the staff, the players, the goals and history of the team.
How would these Fair-Weather Lemmings have handled the Harland Svare, Ron Waller, Tommy Prothro, Steve Ortmayer years?
Do not confuse the Freedom of Speech with the freedom to be a doltish spineless imbecile. As shown, they are at times one.
To those Faithless Lemmings, you should reconsider...or continue to exercise your Freedom of Speech by nonsensically whining while you proudly display/wear your paperbag and play follow-the-leader.
Know this, it's certain that the majority of Chargers fans, players and fans nationwide are shaking their heads with disgust, laughing AT you...not with you.

The bagheads are fine to a degree. Such is life when expectations are high. It was the daily negative talk that started getting to me. I was just re reading the colts chargers playoff game thread and I found it awful that people could not just enjoy the game. After every Manning completion it was The D sucks. D Flo is awful. I cant wait for McCree to be gone, what the hell is wrong with LT and Rivers why arent they playing, we cant win with Billy Volek. People should lighten up and enjoy these times. Since Ive been a fan of this team in 1981 we have had 8 playoff appearances. 3 of which have come in the last 4 years. Cherish these times Charger faithful. It wont always be this good.
That being said at 1-3 last year after a 14-2 season the year before I think it is normal for fans to be frustrated with what they are seeing. I know I was. I didnt lose total faith in the team but the whole year became an uphill climb and my confidence in the team was shaken.
We have a great team, let's hope for the best. We need a superbowl NOW!! Support the team. I dont want to see on my TV Jets fans at the Monday Night game. I just got an email from this site saying there are still seats available for the Pats and Colts game. Lets not see Pat and Colt fans at the stadium. We need a real homefield advantage. Let's win this together!! Im from NY so I wont be there but Im flying down to Miami to watch my bolts beat up on Pennington and the fish.

Enlighten us as to how booing Philip Rivers, at home, in the 4th game of the season is comical.
I never said it was comical, I never booed PR.
Educate us as to how we are to find humor in hearing Charger fans chanting "Marty, Marty, Marty"....or questioning LT's heart.
That's their opinion. I never did that.
It's the same crowd that denounces AJ Smith's "ego" and calls for AJ's head on a platter, along with inaccurately questioning AJ's moves on draft day.
Again, you assume too much.
Perhaps this is due to an apparent lack of knowledge of the Chargers- The changes, the staff, the players, the goals and history of the team.
I've been a Fan since 1979. You assume I have lack of, when you don't know me.
How would these Fair-Weather Lemmings have handled the Harland Svare, Ron Waller, Tommy Prothro, Steve Ortmayer years?
I don't know-ask everybody or better yet create a thread on the subject.

Can you provide evidence? That's their opinion and I respect everyone's opinion. Can you say the same?
It is one thing to say you're a Chargers fan...and another to constructively show faith and support...win or lose...to the end.
I see you take things for face value without adequate research of the "Baghead Movement". I"ve been faithful and my family has shown support for many years. Win, lose, or tie Charger Fan till I die!

It is one thing to say you're a Chargers fan...and another to constructively show faith and support...win or lose...to the end.
I'll take "Who cares what other fans think?" for $500.
You're making a bigger joke out of it by taking it seriously.
I bagged myself and constructively criticized Norv and Ted from the
safety of being behind my computer screen.
Ted needed to blitz more. Norv needed to do more than run LT up the middle.
constructively, we all knew the problem. We voiced it. While being bagged.
I really don't see where you're coming from. Unless you're a renegade Raider
bandwagoner.

Find some humor in it dude. Your all worked up.
No one bailed on this team from a physical point of view. We were all disappointed with the way the team started out. The bag head was a "symbol" of our disappointment of the level of play on the field.
Please. Look up the past threads and tell me it was out of humor. Furthermore, it wasn't "dissappointment of level of play on the field" rather a call for both Norv and Teddy's head. Most were not putting any blame on the players, they were calling for the heads of coaches and management. I even remember people calling for AJ's head. It was rediculous, typical fair weather charger fan mentality.

I find your view rather entertaining on the subject... coming from someone who had no qualms about being critical of Marty, Foley, Donnie, and various other Charger organization people in the past.
Of course, if you give your opinion it's all kosher, but heaven forbid that anyone else should give theirs... right?
BTW - you need to be really careful about assigning reasons to what other people do in life - it's obvious you can't think outside your own little sandbox. Neither is it good to try to lump everything/one into the same little pigeon hole...:nono:

What does being critical of Marty, Donnie, and Foley have to do with this thread? Did I say someone can't give an opinion, or wear their bag?
I was born in San Diego, lived there for 25 years. My parents have been there well over 50 years, and my family is season ticket holders since 1979. To say San Diego has fair weather fans is not trying to lump everything in the same pigeon hole, rather stating my observations of OUR fan base over the years.
If I offended you by assigning reasons to what you do (or anyone else does) in life, I am sorry. I didn't realize I was doing that.

But hey, don't worry, the bags are retired. Looks like this year it's being replaced by Chargers themed coonskin caps. It worked for Davey Crockett at the Alamo, so how can it NOT work against the Patriots????

My family has tickets since '78! And you are absolutely correct - San Diego is full of fairweather fans. (However I think the baghead thing was a pretty funny display of unity. And I understand wearing bags in a sarcastic display of embarrassment may not be best described as 'unity'... but I don't think it was intended to be as insulting as so many on this thread have made it out to be)
I also think it's fair to assume that anyone who is on their favorite sports teams 'Online Forum' is clearly a dedicated fan. And a nerd. (myself included) So I would hope no one here gets too upset at each other.
To help prove our 'fair weather' fan accusation - Go to Stubhub.com. Check out the ticket availability for many other popular NFL team games. Then check out the Chargers. You'll be unpleasantly surprised at just how many ticket holders are willing to part ways with their seats, for a few bucks over face value.

c'mon people....just have some fun....the bags may not have started as a joke, but they sure ended up as one....
let's get something else to divide the fanbase up on......something more important....
like dark blue vs. powder blue
or
powder blue vs. power blue
or
white helmets vs. dark helmets
or
bolts stripes on pants vs. straight stripes on pants
i think all would agree that these topics are way more important and pressing than bag or no bag......

While I certainly am not blind to the humor in the wearing of the Bag, there is certainly one thing about it that is truly disturbing, whether you are a baghead or not:
CHARGERS lose a game = Bags go on
CHARGERS win a game = Bags come off
...see a pattern here?
You see, its really about commitment. If you're going to wear the bag, then keep it on. Don't continue to support the stereo-type that Charger fans a fair-weathered. It hurts us all.

As former baghead last year I had a right(America is great!)to show dissappointment to my team which I've supported since 1979. I think some people just don't respect other peoples opinions on this forum sometimes(which in essence-they don't need too, respectfully). I respect their views but no need to bash a fellow Charger fan regardless if their views don't match your own. Virtual bagheads is nothing compared to physically wearing one, but has some adverse effect towards other people. As adversity goes, please don't assume people's life situations. Everyone has gone through adversity sometime in their lives, me especially. I respect your views and understand what your saying. Go Chargers!!!!

I fail to see how bashing a your home team/wearing a bag when they lose, and then saying you have been a fan since 79 when they win is 'support'. Am I missing something?

"I agree unity is a good thing."
Think harmony -- not unity. Schotty and Smith had neither (arguably more unity than harmony). You can be happy with people you generally disagree with and yet be miserable with people you generally agree with.
Although somethings can never be accomplished without unity, it's a utopian concept to be flawlessly unified. Agree to disagree. Or you could just do what Steve Smith or the Brewers do to "solve" their differences. LOL.
As for the "flip-flops" -- just fans emotionally altered by events -- some fans are play to play. Some are quarter to quarter. Some game to game. Some season to season. Some just enjoy the game no matter what. No matter. To each their own.
