View Full Version : Nate Kaeding's Pathetic Non-Attempts at Tackling

Nate Kaeding COULD have taken an angle or atleast made an attempt to throw his body at the kick returner on both of those long runs. Instead, he jogged in slowly as if he didn't even wanna try to make a tackle, then after he got juked, he barely even made an effort to run after the guy.
Poor hussle and lack of heart displayed. I think that is why he blows it in clutch situations.
I'm sure you all disagree though, as usual.

Dude... its not like the guy is a football player or anything.

He broke his leg last year making a tackle so he might be a little gun shy. That said, I recall him being in on at least one tackle last night.
But it shouldn't even get to him - if it does, that means 10 other guys didn't do their job.

I dunno if you meant to post in blue/green or w/e, but I don't want to see our only FG kicker tackling people. He shouldn't have to make a tackle, and there was one time he did tackle at the 50 under a large pile. Not something I wanna see from our FG kicker who is something like 47/48 from within 50 yards.

Thats what I said when people were pointing it out to me on the replay. He didn't even try, but he did learn his lesson the hard way.

he's just a kicker, I have seen kickers look much worse in coverage that kaeding has.

Yeah, it could be worse.
We could have a Grammatica brother on our team.

Agreed. Nate shouldnt be the only one getting crap for kickoffs. 10 other guys should make the play before it even gets to the kicker.
If you want to complain about something maybe this is it, but i can think of at least two other things that pissed me off worse than the kickoffs.

Nate's last priority is tackling the returner. Anyone returning a kick should have enough moves/speed to get by the kicker 99/100 times. If the other 10 guys fail at their jobs, Nate does have a responsibility to force the returner to make a move and hopefully slow him enough to let someone else catch him. He did that, hence a 94 yard return, with no TD.

You have to remember Kaeding isn't exactly the most athletic person on special teams. He also shouldn't be put in the situation to have to make the tackle. How many kickers do you recall that were excellent tacklers as well. I have seen too many that have tried and gotten themselves hurt. I will say that I have seen Kaeding make his fair share of tackles.

I'm more concerned with his kick-offs last night than his tackling. He shouldn't even have had to be put in the situation of having to tackle someone if he kicked those balls deep. I remember seeing one of his kicks only going as far as the 20-30 yd line.
He was great last week. But last night was really weak in those kick offs.

Yeah - he did that one year - I got hurt. It isn't his job to tackle - it is all of the other guys on the field. I think your lack of heart displayed in this post just shows why you may want to jump off the band wagon...
BTW - Kaeding is the MOST accurate kicker in football history! So which clutch kick did he miss? Against the Jets in the rain in the wildcard game? Seriously! Man......

They were planned kicks. They were trying to keep the ball away from the return man.

I'm sure you all disagree though, as usual. He made the tackle on one of those long runbacks. One he ducked out of the way. Can't say I blame him, he wasn't going to get the tackle on that one anyway.

The kicker going out and being a tough guy is equivalent to the center fielder crashing full speed into the wall to make the one catch and then injuring himself for months - it ain't worth it; there aren't that many good unemployed FG kickers sitting on the couch. The coverage was weak, fix that.

I thought he did make a tackle on one kickoff. Not really a tackle he more of less spun the guy to the ground...if I recall correctly around mid-field.

Yes, and if that was the one short kick I'm thinking of, there was basically no return on it.
As a matter of fact, I often wonder why teams/kickers don't practice high loopy kickoffs that make it to the 20-25, minimizing any return and actually giving them a chance to recover the ball - seriously, the ability to kick off really high to about the 25 would be a heck of a skill. Come to think of it, I'd probably do a combo of loopy kicks and line-drive ground ball kicks on all kickoffs.

BUHAHAHAHAAAA jeez-us!
It's NOT HIS JOB, man! I do not want to see our Kickers hurt, if the opposing player has gotten that far down the field, well for gawd's sake...KAEDING (or SCIFRES, either) should not be expected to stop him.
SOME of you expect the Team to stop "the enemy of the day",from scoring everytime?? GET real...how friggin' boring would that be??!
It's impossible, so talking THAT kind of trash, is just plain SILLY!
We just need (and will) win most of our games, to head towards the goal of:

Would you rather have our kicker get injured from the tackle and be out 2-3 games at best or stop pursuing the return man when he knew he had no chance and there were other (faster) charger players running after him?

Yes, his kickoffs were equally disturbing. For me though, it's like....come on man if you are going to kick the ball weak and setup a big return, atleast try and sacrifice your whimpy body and try to make a tackle.

Is it your job to bag on every Chargers player? Today must be bash Kaeding day.
Remember, Nate broke his leg last year tackling a returner. I don't blame him for not wanting to get hurt again. We need Kaeding healthy, so I'd cut him some slack on tackling. There's no way he was going to catch the guy anyway, he's not that fast.

He is taught to not tackle him to avoid injury. Just like in preseason Norv said he is doing what he is told to do.
