There are 4 positions where i believe we could benefit from a mid FA acquisition. I look at this acquisition as a short term solution to a long term problem, and a way to NOT have to spend an early draft selection on the position this year.
Safety - We need someone to step in and generate competition for Hart and Oliver. Line em up 3 deep and let them compete. IMHO, Hart is a great situational safety (when you need punishment) but is really a very good backup. Oliver, IMHO, is still 1 year too early. It would make me nervous to think of Weddle and Oliver as the starting 2 (only because of their inexperience.... safety is something you need a saavy veteran for...)
ILB - We have 5 guys who have promise and potential, but only 1 starter. Add a mid level FA into the mix (cut Wilhelm) and mix. Establish a pecking order, light a fire under everyone to "claim" their starting position and let a true order of hierarchy settle. IMHO Dobbins, Siler, Waters arent quite good enough, yet, and to rely on and as a "committee" still leaves something to be desired.
DE - Depth is always good. Replacing Igor cant be too hard.
RG/RT - Depth is always good. Goff and Clary are our starters on the right side (and we have a very weak backup squad). Add 1 more guy into the rotation and we could find stability by keeping everyone.
Ultimately, the point is that i see a few needs that might be addressed better by mid level FA's rather than young draftees. There are only a few positions where a draftee can step into a starting role and we wont see a decline in production/talent.
Bring in an ILB and S...
draft linesmen and 1 ILB/S prospect for the future.
keep sproles and LT.
All holes fixed.

First off resign ONLY Sproles and Floyd and let LT restructure his contract
Safety- I would like us to sign a young starter at safety like Dawan Landry or Michael Huff (all signs point to him getting cut and he is young and capable and a change of scenery usually does you good), I would also like us to sign a veteran for the minimum like Mike Brown he is proven and him being a back up will probably let him survive the season. That lets us cut Hart since he is getting paid too much for horrible play. I would like us to draft Chip Vaughn or Patrick Chung at safety in the draft if we don't sign FAs.
ILB-I like Mike Peterson or Angelo Crowell two very capable veterans who bring leadership and toughness to the ILB position. They should come pretty cheap. I would like to see us draft Kaluka Maiava or Rey Maualuga or Worrell Williams for the ILB position. Any of these moves allow us to cut Wilhelm I really hate him he is horrible in his play and the high five in the Pittsburgh game really pissed me off. I don't care if you and Holmes went to Ohio St. this is the NFL now not Ohio St.
DE-A position I think we should draft for. I like Tank Johnson as a back up but that is about it. I think Keith Grennan will be able to start or be a reliable back up and we have Cesaire and Castillo too. So all we need is a starter opposite of the overpaid Castillo. I'm like Fili Moala or Tyson Jackson via the draft for that.
RB-I think we should look in the draft for this one. I'm liking a power back like a Rashad Jennings a 3rd rounder or PJ Hill a 6th-7th rounder to compliment LT and Sproles.
O line- I like Vernon Carey from the Dolphins or Khalif Barnes from the Jaguars to fill the RT spot and Clary can be a back up. I think we address the RG position via the draft. Trevor Canfield,Ray Feinga,Anthony Parker, etc all capable prospects.

We can trade down or we can package Buster Davis for Michael Huff lol but really we can package Buster Davis and a 3rd rounder to Oakland for their 2nd or Chris Chambers and a 4th rounder to the Eagles for their 2nd. Not sure if those teams would bite though.

News flash I think Moreno and Wells are not can't miss prospects. You are uninformed and a spammer and AJ thankfully probably won't do your dumb move.

I agree with you on bringing in an ILB and SS via free agency and using the draft to target the DE and RG spot.
I've said in other posts that I think Mike Peterson and Mike Brown or Atogwe would be great pick-ups - I too like Waters and Oliver but would be uneasy if they were the starters opening day of next season. At this point, we have no idea yet as to which players will re-sign and/or be cut from their current team. Guys like Michael Huff could be released while guys like Michael Bush could likely be trade bait (sorry to use Raider players in my example but both guys could help fill problem areas for us).
While we did not get much production from Igor's DE spot, I don't think it's easy to find quality DEs in a 3-4 Defense. Unless AJ has his eye on a mid-level free agent, I think we have to use our 1st or 3rd round pick on this position (especially if they'll be the starter next season).
Looking ahead to next season, I'm most concerned with our O and D-lines. We need new starters at DE and RG. Depth is also an issue.
We need to win the battles at the line of scrimmage in order to be able to put teams away. We'll see how the Defense responds to having Rivera in charge for a full season and how the O-line looks (with regards to who is on the team) and plays next season.
