OT-MLB is going to charge licensing fees to little league baseball

I know this is off topic, but i just wanted more people to see this. and since its the off season, i hope mods will be a little relaxed.

Turko was on, saying how little league teams are going to be charged to use Major League baseball team names. i can forgive the expensive tickets and food, but to swindle money out of little league...im sorry im done with baseball...forever.

just don't use their trademarked names and logos and come up with your own. I always liked how you got a MLB teams' hat with their logo on it though. It was kind of a cool added extra.

i dunno when i grew up, part of the fun was always hopin you'd get to be the padres( i never got too though lol).

but its not the issue im upset with, if MLB said they couldnt use them anymore, then well, so be it. but to swindle money out of them is wrong, plain wrong.

This has been the case forever.

Our league has gone to college names. Much cooler in any event. I'm uncertain whether there is a fee for this, too, though even if there is I know it's much less.

I played the sport for years, and while I find it a little boring, if you like baseball, go support guys who dont roid up and get $25 million a year.

Don't quite see how they could get away with the names -- logos I understand.

Still -- it's kind of silly -- someone invents the most awesome, benefit providing tool and the patent is good for a few years (10) -- but you give something a name and a neat piece of art, and it's protected forever.

They should just go back like the old days when little league teams names were La Chiquita market or Johns auto shop or John Frenzel dont ask me what John Frenzel was that was the name of my team.

The football teams in the NYS (national youth sports) use NFL logos and names and haven't had a problem, i hope it stays that way.as coaches we have the choice between factious names and NFL teams, we leave up to the kids.

I totally agree. Baseball has become all about the money, and now it seems at all costs. Going after Little League is about the same as stealing a kid's candy bar. Whoever thought this was a good idea needs to be brained.

yeah like the NFL NEVER had a roid problem. baseball has a second offense life time ban.the NFL no life time ban for unlimted offenses just games pay/ loss. don't like baseball thats your proragitive. to bash a league for roid users and not mention roid abuse by NFL players making millions playing 60 minutes a week actually playing time is more like 20-25 minutes....... so which league is MORE serious about cheaters in it's league it's obvious even to a moron that it's baseball..... so using your anaology you don't support MERRIMAN or CASTILLO?. no i's sure your a MERRIMAN supporter just showing your bias ignorance against roid use in one sport but not another........

As a coach for my son's youth baseball team, I was shocked to hear that Major League Baseball (MLB) charges big licensing fees to youth baseball leagues if they use MLB team names or logos on their kids’ jerseys. Obviously, these are non-profit, volunteer organizations, so how does the MLB expect these leagues to pay huge licensing fees -- it is a complete abomination!

The MLB should be ashamed for not providing our youth with same opportunity we had as kids imaging we were playing for the "big league" teams in our very own jerseys of the same name. I think this does irrevocable damage to the sport if this continues and is a short-sighted decision in favor of making a buck now, instead of promoting the sport to the next generation of baseball players.

If you feel as disappointed as I do, please sign this petition (http://www.petitiononline.com/urgemlb/petition.html) to urge Bud Selig to reverse this misguided licensing decision and start investing in our youth today!

Fathers (instead of Padres. Padre is father in spanish, right?)
Triples (instead of the Twins)
Capitals (instead of the Nationals)

And so on...

You have men playing a kids game making a ton of money. MLB wants money to market themselves to the fan of the future? But, have them pay the bill? Come on Bud Selig time to turn your head and see the things you don't want to!
