Gorilla Injures 1 During Escape at Zoo

COLUMBIA, S.C. (June 12) - A 390-pound gorilla grabbed some low-hanging bamboo to scale a wall at a South Carolina zoo Friday, escaping his enclosure and tackling a worker before returning to his pen about five minutes later.

The gorilla at Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens ran into a pizza-stand employee who curled up and played dead to try to avoid further injuries, officials said. The man, who works for Aramark Corp., was taken to a hospital and released a short time later with cuts and bruises.

Zoo executive director Satch Krantz said the worker heard a strange sound, saw the gorilla outside the enclosure and turned to run.

"Then the gorilla did what gorillas do," he said.

The animal quickly closed the 30-foot gap between them and knocked the worker down.

Witness Juanita McAllister Caldwell told WLTX-TV (http://www.wltx.com/news/story.aspx?storyid=74946&catid=2) that the gorilla was looking into her eyes as he stood just six feet away from her.

"Pounding on his chest and hollering just as you know in one of those King Kong movies," she said. While others around her ran, she stood still.

Shortly afterward, the gorilla went over another wall and back into his enclosure.
"By then, the gorilla realized he was probably somewhere he shouldn't have been and wanted to go home," Krantz said.

The culprit is believed to be a 16-year-old western lowland gorilla named Mike, though zoo officials said they didn't know for certain. Three gorillas are in the exhibit.

But AJ doesn't have the guts to pick him up.
What is the vet minimum for a 16yo gorilla anyway?
Are we too cheap even for that???????????????

Mike's 390. I don't think he can pull off safety.

Okay, its obvious what position this Gorilla prefers just look at the name MIKE not SAM not WILL so its clear hes a MLB.But here's the thing I'm thinking he should be converted to a D lineman for the simple fact "stance".
All LBs stand up right/ 2 point stance, i think this might be a hinder to the players abilities.Clearly this g-unit is most comfortable in a 3 or 4 point stance, got to get the best out of a players natural style.

Its just his off the field life style that comes to question

The National Geographic… with mr. gorilla on the cover. One should note Paris Hilton has a long history with primates. The NY Post reported about her birthday party
After downing TY KU liquor and bottles of Dom Perignon, guests reported seeing Hilton play with a monkey while a band of midgets led a pack of goats around the room.
It’s also said she had a pet monkey at one point, though apparently she doesn’t know her primates to well as it was a the nfl player gorilla gorilla.

(midgets and goats sounds like the JNCP)

We're gonna have to learn how to contain him. I think if he enters next year's draft he will fall to the 7th because of that off the field issue. I think we can keep him in line, and get a future HOFamer out of him.

why not?

ellison and mike..man thatd be double the prescence at safety!

both hard hitters just waiting to knock someones head off.

7th...you kidding me? he'll be a 1st round prospect, but i think due to his issues hell fall right down to the 32nd pick and i think we'll be able to get him at the point.

Not with those off the field issues... he will drop far even with his raw talent and brute strength... and teams will be scared to use him in TC because of injuries.... we will get a real winner in the 7th

He and Vaughn can have a match for the spot, but I think we know who wins.....
