I love that! we were the only team to start 0-4 and make the playoffs

and the only team to be three games behind the division leader with 3 weeks left to go and still make the playoffs

lol I remember we played the houston oilers that season and my dad was going for houston at the time. He was like there is a reason they call the astrodome the "house of pain". Surely enough we lost and lost bad 27-0 but the season ended well ha. Why did we end up playing the colts twice that year?

That was back in the day when teams played a true "last place schedule" due to the fact that 4 divisions had 5 teams (including the AFC West and AFC East - the divisions that the Chargers and Colts were in respectively) and 2 divisions had 4 teams.

What happened with divisions that had 5 teams was as follows:

The top 4 teams from the prior season played 4 games against a division from the other conference - just like they do today.

However, the 5th place team would play:

- 1 game against each 5th place team from the other conference (in the 1992 Chargers case, they played the 5th place NFC Central Buccaneers and 5th place West Cardinals), and

- 2 games against the other 5th place team from their own conference (in the 1992 Chargers case, they played the 5th place Indy Colts twice - home & away).

As opposed to the Chargers 4 games against 5th place teams from 1991, the Chiefs, Broncos, Raiders and Seahawks got to play these games:

- 1991 Super Bowl Champs Washington Redskins
- 1992 Super Bowl Champs Dallas Cowboy
- 1990 Super Bowl Champs NY Giants
- the Philadelphia Eagles

Quite a difference, eh?

When people refer to a "last place schedule", this is what they meant. Now that each division has 4 teams, everyone has virtually identical schedules. Only 2 games are different and everyone plays a division from the other conference.

[EDIT] This reminds me of something that Ted Leitner always says over the air: "The Chargers never did anything except when they had a last place schedule".

The truth is that under Boss Ross, the Chargers only had a last place schedule in 1992.

When the Chargers made the Super Bowl in 1994 (Leitner refers to it as a "last place schedule" constantly), the Chargers had a 4th place schedule that was virtually the same in difficulty as the Raiders, Chiefs and Broncos. In 1995, the Chargers made the playoffs with a 1st place schedule.

I even called into Leitner once and corrected him on the air.

Leitner admitted to his mistake on the air - and then a few months later I heard him refer to his same old "the Chargers never did anything under Ross except when they had a last place schedule".

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

It is a freakin' delight. All this big mouthin' about the faider nation has the best fans. Well, hmmmmmm, the faiders moved to L.A. in 1982? That video is like 10 years later at the L.A. Coliseum. Did they win like 2 superbowls in L.A. during the 1980's prior to that, too?

Nation? For life? 'til I die? Pleeeezzzz . . . .

Bandwagon, period.

Martin wasn't on the team that year. That was Anthony Miller.
