another player that I USED to like, sounds like an expensive pinch hitter considering he doesn't play defense

I know, but he actually asked to be traded so he waived his no trade clause and he wanted to reuinite with Manny Ram so Dodgers sent a no name A ball infielder and some cash to get Thome, who will play 1st whereas Loney will go at 3rd, moving Blake to bench.

Why would the Dodgers move a better defensive 1st baseman to 3rd base when it's not his natural position? Thome isn't a 1st baseman anymore. He's the power bat off the bench and possibly the DH should the Dodgers make it to the World Series.

Well apparently Dodgers decided to use him off the bench for the time being.
James Loney could play 3rd. 3rd is like 1st basically, except you're going to get more groundballs and throw a lot. Loney is one of the best defensive 1st basemens. Pretty sure he could play 3rd despite the fact he's a lefty.
Thome said he's getting old and can't play 1st anymore, but that's hogwash. I'm sure if Dodgers need him at 1st, he'll play and do the best he can there.
And all this would mean Casey Blake going to bench.

So what exactly happened to Blake that he's no longer being productive? And, would that also mean that he would be unlikely to produce in October?

He's been in a slump so far, going 1 for 4, some days going 0 for...
He's a good fielder, but we need power in the lineup. Also get rid of that bum Furcal. What the hell is wrong with that guy? Put Casey Blake at 2nd and O-Dogg Hudson at SS. That's what the dodgers need to do.

1 for 6 with 3 strikeouts. Yep much better than James Loney's .281 12 HR, 85 RBI...

I am not saying he is bettter than Loney. I just would like him to get an occasional start to stay sharp. He is a weapon for the long ball.

He wasn't a first baseman in Chicago this season why would you put him there now.

because he is in the NL that is why!
if big fatty David Ortiz can play first in an NL ballpark
then Thome should be able to play 1 game there in a pinch one would think

But it goes back to the why would you trade for him in the first place? He was brought it soley to be a veteran pinch hitter off the bench and DH *IF* the Dodgers make the World Series.
