He is a DT 6'2 325 lbs according to Wikipedia. Just became eligible to play this week. He was suspended for steroids this year, and last year he was accused of punching Brady Quinn in the face. I'm not saying he's the savior, but he's at least worth a look. We gotta forget about all this we care about character crap, we need some size on the line and I think he could provide it.

Desperate times call for desperate measures I'll make the call and he'll be on the red eye to SD tonight. No but seriously I think he'll be an upgrade just keep his locker on the other side of the facility.

Sounds like a fiery guy. Something tells me a lot of guys in the browns locker room would like to punch each other and they'd line up for Mangini. I agree with the character statement to a point. Not everyone is a nice guy and I have no issue with that. What I care about is what you do for those 60 minutes between the lines. If the man can get it done bring him in

Bring in one of the Shauns. Switch to a 4-3 (i know its crazy) and Have Castillo/Cesaire, Shaun, Nwabou/Martin, Merriman. or some other combinations

LOL, but i'm gonna tell you right now. A 4-3 wouldn't help our D one bit. If that happened, then every team would be able to run outside on us every play. Merriman in a pure pass rusher, and so is English, and they dont play well at all against the run. I wouldn't mind it if it was just the DT's but its not that simple. Also, you cant just expect players to learn an entirely new system because they lost one guy. If we bring in Shaun Smith, i think it would be a great move, even despite the character issues. We need a better, more expierenced big body in the middle of our D, and it would be even better if we could sign him to a one year deal.

I think we could run a 4-3 with Merriman lining up at end. 4-3m de's are usually pretty good pass rushers. if we make a move foe a henderson, smith ,or rogers and play either martin or Nwabue next to them. Then have either Cesaire or castillo on the other side. that might turn out to be a pretty good dl

Again, we would have to get another DE because Merriman is basically a pass rush specialist even in our 3-4, so he would have trouble being right on the line next to OT's trying to get off the block and make plays in the run game. Castillo is BY FAR best fit for a 4-3 UT, even more so then a 3-4 DE, so he's out of the question to make him a DE, and Cesiare is the exact same way. We would need to get another DE to play this D, and i'm not even sure that our LB's could play this.
And like i said before, this would have to be at least a 2 year swich because of the way our D is already so set up for a 3-4, that you cant expect everyone to drop everything that they've learned over the past year just because one guy got hurt, and then pick it back up again next year. The NFL just doesn't work like that.

Shaun Smith is big enough to play NT but the ultimate question is whether he has the discipline or attitude to excel. I have no idea if he'd sink or swim in our system.
The good news is he's a free agent. The bad news is that we'd have to cut a guy to make room for him and that may not be feasible.

I hate when people say this. The prototypical NT is 6'3", correct? So why does everyone make such a big deal about a one inch difference. There really is no height limit to what a NT can be as long as he's about under 6'7" which is tough to maintain leverage at the POA.
