View Full Version : A little sick of the political correctness around the NFL

Not that I am a big fan of the media to begin with, but it just seems that every interview is a politically corrected script these days. From the "it'll be a good test" to the "one game at a time" to the "we have to do our job"....I mean it's like people aren't even saying anything anymore.
And I get it, as soon as someone does they are villainized as a distraction to the world by, you guessed it, the media. I'm just over it. If that is really how everyone feels, fine. I'm just ready for someone to point one out of left field, or in this case, to say "We are going to kick the Giants ass."

I agree for the most part.
But then somtimes you look stupid like Merriman's "I'm going to punch Brady in the mouth."
Or Brady's

dont let the norv apologist read this it might be misunderstood
who would think motivation has a place in the game
if a player has to read an article to get motivated he is in the wrong line of work. he is professional why should he have to get motivated it his job.....blah blah blah
green of course

i agree with OP. and to expand on it, I'm getting a little sick of the need for political correctness in this country in general. People can't say or do anything anymore without someone getting "offended" by it. Bottom line, People need to learn to just lighten the heck up.

I like Ray Lewis' approach. If you've heard him in interviews, you know he's gonna bring it, but he won't guarantee anything. It's not "PC". It's professionalism.
As for the media, there is plenty of media bias out there. And they do scoff openly. You should see how ESPN has addressed the Raiders lately. However, they also cater to the hands that feed them. To me, that's MUCH worse than being "PC".

People are too sensitive these days. Players are coached to say nothing, or too scared to speak their minds anymore.

And by "We" you mean the squeakiest wheels, or the vocal majority?
Oh, politicians that try to put their stamp on our lives and leave their mark before they are sent packing?
Or, maybe people are just too sensitive?

I mean the human race.

Where have the days gone when Mike Tyson talked about eating other men's children?
Or the old school yard "I'm a hit you so hard your grandchildren will feel it."

Fantastic find. I had totally forgotten about that. I was so happy to see Igor drop the hammer on that Donkey Punk.
More interviews like this would be fine by me.

I agree with you to a point, when it's an obvious joke and no harm was meant by it then yeah people should let things go. When someone says something though targeted at a group of people or uses a slur that we all know has a history of being used in a hateful and degrading way towards that group of people then those people have every right to say that they they don't like it IMO. There are reasons why some words just shouldn't be used anymore.
As far as the point of this thread, sports press conferences in general are boring now a days, they are all pretty much repeats of each other, it's the same old cliche things said over and over again. I don't know if it's political correctness or just not wanting to put much thought into what you are saying anymore lol. I think you run a big risk in football talking too much crap though, if you can't back it up you are going to look like an even bigger idiot after you lose.

Agreed. If we want the "old days" back -- well then -- we read the game summary in Monday's paper. We don't know how our rivals did unless we stay up for the 11 o'clock news. We don't have to hear the same interview over and over, because we don't have ESPN. We have to watch football teams do raps.
People are generally courteous. Being beligerant is an exception. While people aren't as sensitive, people also aren't as caustic. If we offend someone, they punch us in the face and nobody does anything about it (no lawsuits).
One comment says look what politicians do to us, etc. Eh, don't worry about it. Don't be so sensitive. LOL -- there's a reason people complain about the way they are treated. Sometimes, again, I agree it's OVER sensitive. But really, at least they are just expressing, not taking out their shotguns over it.
