![]() ![]() 2011 Division II CIF State Championship Bowl: Helix Highlanders vs. Del Oro Golden Eagles http://www.sdfootball.net/2011/12/ci...s-del-oro.html After decisively winning their first section title since 2001, the Highlanders will now have their sights set on the ultimate task of the season: The first State Championship Bowl in school history. This Saturday they will visit the Home Depot Center in Carson to take on the Del Oro Golden Eagles of Loomis, California. The two-time defending Sac-Joaquin Section champions are averaging over 40 points per game, riding a 12-game winning streak, and have a rushing attack that features two backs that have rushed for over 1,000 yards this season. Sound familiar? While Helix only has one rusher with over 1,000 yards (the #2 Halfback has 907), these teams are quite similar to each other which should make for a pretty interesting match-up. If Helix comes away with the victory, it will be the fifth straight season that ended with a San Diego Section team winning a State Bowl game. Sizing up the SBG, Perspective from a Nor Cal High School guy.
D2 Helix/Del Oro has the makings of a classic. This should end up being the closest game of the bunch. Del Oro is a run first team but when things get tough they can throw the football. Helix is much bigger on their O line than Del Oro's D line. Del Oro's LBs will be busy. Del Oro is the team that lost by 3 to Westlake. Del Oro fans claim they scored the winning TD, but the refs didn't see it that way. Open If Westlake plays the way they did against Oaks this game will be over early, in favor of DLS. Westlake is talented but they have nowhere near the dicipline of DLS. Westlake has to play better D or this one won't be close. D1 Bell is running team that deplores the double wing. This is the team that gave Oceanside fits in 2009. Oceanside was a fumble and one penalty away from losing that game. But Bell has a problem in this game. SM is much bigger up front on both sides of the lines. If Bell cannot keep SM offense on the side lines SM wins this one. If Bells running game rolls SM could be in trouble. Bell defensive strength is their LBs. Their weakness is giving up big plays to the passing game and ST. D3 Don't know a thing about Washington Union but Campolindo is on a roll. Picked to finish last in their league these guys shocked their section. D4 Don't know a thing about either team. From what I've read the team from the South should win this one. |
