If you think this team would be winning games with VJ then you haven't been watching.

sigh. miss this dude.
I remember ppl thinking that VJ would sink into obscurity in TB. well what say you now? who made who look better? its obvious Rivers plays better with big WRs, and VJ is among the best of them. |

Tampa's really not that good, it's just that were pretty bad. Sorry folks, but I've got to be honest.

I am still ok with not signing him. Yes we lose a play maker but I honestly think that it shows that AJ smith isnt worth keeping around and it also shows what kind of QB Rivers really is

VJ didn't have anything whatsoever to do with those plays. It was all on the QB. And I don't know who the DB was who was covering him, but I'm sure he sucks.

As of now, it is tough to argue (and win) NOT signing VJ.
With that being said, there are still a few more years to see the final results. But as of now, AJ is losing this one. Johnson, McClain...good. Gaither, Meachem, Royal...ehhhh ![]()

I think many people were excited about the potential of this past off-seasons' signings. I guess the only place to go from here is up, really. I had high hopes for Royal, personally. That's my biggest disappointment. Ugh,

Call me crazy, but I support the decision to not re-sign VJ.
I'm still of the opinion that Rivers can throw to anyone...as long as they're not too fast. Danario Alexander, a classic AJ dumpster dive, is killing it with Rivers. Ajirotutu, Brown, VJ, Floyd, Naanee, and Crayton all did well with Rivers and all had average to below average speed for NFL receivers. Similarly, Rivers has never struggled throwing to tight ends during his career. *And yes, I know Alexander's 40-times are actually pretty quick, but looking at that TD catch against the Bucs, there's no way he's that fast anymore. The same applies to VJ's 40-times and that 95-yard non-touchdown he had against the Saints. But when looking at who Rivers has struggled with: Meachem, Royal, Laurent Robinson (him and Rivers looked terrible together in the 2011 preseason), and heck, even Buster Davis, all ran 4.39 or lower at the combine and are well, pretty quick. Frankly, I think this is a well-defined trend. Rivers can't throw to fast receivers. Therefore, I really wish AJ would have signed someone slow for cheap (like a Plaxico Burress or something) and just spend his FA money elsewhere. Not re-signing VJ was a good decision in concept, it's just too bad AJ didn't realize that Rivers doesn't play well with fast receivers. |
