i wouldn't want to lose on purpose per se, but we gotta give the younger guys/rookies like green, taylor, wright, mouton,..etc some much needed experience so they can develop. At the very least give them some snaps. If they do bad and we lose, then fine. The results of the younger guys play can help us determine what we really need for this next draft. The chances of us making the play offs with a 9-7 or 8-8 record is pretty slim anyways. If we lose one more game then we should DEFINITELY give them some playing time because we'll be eliminated on paper or atleast i think we'll be eliminated.

teams will never purposely lose out, the players and coaches are not guaranteed to be there next year

To original question: Heck yes.
See for reference: Indianapolis Colts, 2011.

I have no respect for that strategy and the Colts should be ashamed of themselves.

I have thought of an idea: all wins - losses in the last three weeks of the season count INVERSELY for your draft position. Lose, and your draft pick gets worse. Win, and it gets better. Just to make sure the hanky-panky is kept at a minimum. Alas -- that hasn't happened. So for now, the rules allow what the rules allow. I wouldn't ask a player to tank -- EVER -- but why not play your younger guys or subs and see what they can do? If they do great, you just discovered something you might have overlooked. If not -- then heck, you get rewarded under the current system.

Can't root for a loss, but you can feel less upset when we do lose. At least that's how I'm approaching it. I still cheer for every Chargers big play, I just don't let it upset me. Just looking at it like we're one step closer to Luke Joeckel.
On a somewhat related note, go Rams and Eagles.

You guys will have to help my memory here, but weren't we in position last year to improve the draft position ? Even I said just lose the damn thing and I think we won at Denver to close out the year ???
Its a mixed bag. At 8-8 they did not have a losing record so they were prob. playing for that. On the other hand, with a better pick .... |

I am not rooting for the Chargers to lose out, but it won't bother me if they do lose out. The earlier the pick, the better.

No. Play out to win. When the chargers went 1 and 15, I still cheered on, cause I knew they fought every game, and didn't give up. If the chargers gave up just for a better draft position, count me out as being a fan. I would not support a team that quits on purpose. Go to your kids, and ask them if its ok for the chargers to lose on purpose just to get a better position on the draft.
