I'm afraid you misunderstand; I don't deign to handicap what the market will bear. The folly of juggling art appraisal, thought policing, and literary criticism was a dagger buried in the door of Mod HQ by a certain scofflaw who happens to be pretty good with a blade. I envy your visit to Soviet Russia though, as my own forays behind the iron curtain all took place after the wall fell. I did rub shoulders with some heavy hitting mafia types who in all likelihood once played the part of devout "Socialist" pillars, but things are just too bloody expensive over there these days. I would have loved to have been in that neck of the woods when a pair of my Levis might have compelled a lupine Natasha (or three) to shimmy out of her drab, state-issued outfit...

Tyranny comes in all shapes and sizes, my friend. As for sprucing up 'exaggerate', I actually try not to use "fancy" words when a simple one will do the job: writing 101, that. The thing is, I'm a lyrical sort and a lot of common words lack the panache and textured nuance of their big brothers. Speaking of him, when it comes to fighting spiritual wickedness in high and low places, color me Bob Marley. I only have bones to pick (I almost said 'take umbrage', but I'm tipping my cap to you) with about 1/3 of the CMB mod squad, truth be told. And they're skirting the issue, which is actually a very uncomplicated one: overstretching the ethically justifiable bounds of authority. Again, all shapes and sizes.

Nah, but it is one of my favorites. All high quality humor is rooted in irony and if I couldn't laugh, I'd have to scream. On that note, did you miss the line after the one you quoted? Believe it or not, I don't bust out the thesaurus for this stuff.

Had you written it as follows, I might have had an inkling to that effect: "The thing is, I'm a euphonious sort and a lot of common words lack the elan and virtuosic diaphaneity of their forebears."
