I applaud them for trying something new. As I said in my post, the team is rather rigid in more respects that I'd like. Hopefully the lack of success in recent years has humbled them and it makes them realize they need to reach out to fans more.

We're all clearly disappointed with how this team has performed the last 3 seasons.

How am I reaching? My thread is stating that you know your franchise is in a mess when they have 13,000 unsold tickets and have to resort to Groupon to sell them.

If our franchise wasn't in a mess, was in the PO hunt and had zero tickets remaining, we wouldn't be in a mess. On top of that, we wouldn't have to resort to Groupon to dump the tickets.

I think I'm not reaching at all.

Yes, I noticed that. Pitt's stadium was also empty when the Steelers played the Chiefs. The must have more season ticket holders or maybe a lower sellout threshold. Same with the Chiefs at their "new" stadium, which has had a lot of empty seats.

I still think SD is a really good football town. I'm a season ticket holder and have been through the ups and downs, but I certainly understand fans not wanting to shell out for a team that hasn't been to the playoffs in several years. I also see nothing wrong with the Groupon deal -- if you're not selling tickets it only makes sense to offer fans a deal.

I have no problem with this move. Clearly if you're selling out every week you don't need to do it but it makes sense given the fact that attendance is down. It's too bad they didn't think to try it earlier in the year.

I applaud the team for trying something new and thinking outside the box for a change. Now if only they got smarter and actually put more emphasis on giveaways and halftime entertainment that could help draw more people to the games. The games are fun but the pre and mid game entertainment (outside of when people parachute in, when they let the little kids play and the Phil Mickelson challenge) are uninspired and boring.

I agree that there's nothing wrong with this. I've bought much better stuff from Groupon than just "half priced dinners". It's a legitimate new way to try to increase product sales.
