Trade Rivers now while he still has some trade value...we are at the beginning of a New Charger Era! Let's make it a clean break with those that have been under performing.
What will happen if we are unable to put together the very best O line in the NFL?
Answer: We will have another season just like the last three with Rivers dragging us down.
Rivers has never had an elite OL, never mind very best in the NFL. He can do a lot of damage with a just-above-average unit OL and practice squad receivers.

Like 909 said, it's not like Rivers had nothing but probowlers around him in 08-10 when he was elite and our team was at or near the top in terms of offense. McNeill's best season was his rookie year and his pass pro was only average after that. Hardwick's ability to hold at the POA and create a pocket as always been lacking. RG was a spot in development as Vasquez took over as a rookie and was inconsistent for some time. Clary has always been a below average pass protector. Dielman was the only consistently good player on that line and we was even declining by 2010.

Give Rivers some semblance of protection, and he'll succeed. Harris, Green, Hardwick, and Clary were all near the bottom of their positions in terms of protection in 2012. That's 4/5. And a lot of the time it was their backups playing, which was even worse. So bottom line, the assertion that we would need the best line in the NFL for Rivers to succeed is groundless, and honestly just smacks of the personal distaste some people have for him that they try to pass off as actually being related to his play on the field.

I like your draft in your sig bro. Not super often I see a mock that's so different from mine that I would be totally happy with.

That's what I'm sayin' man...no one has the perfect O line...ya gotta work with what you have. Point is you need a mobile QB...not necessarily a runner like Wilson or RGIII...someone that can react, move around the pocket and find the open man...and do it quickly. We need to be able to operate much more quickly. No huddle. Just like the teams that have the 'elite' QB's. We can't do that with Rivers.
What will Rivers be worth for trade if he has another year like the last three?
What team in the leauge would be a 'good fit' for Rivers?
Your loyalty to Rivers is admirable...but mis-guided...if you want the Chargers to win.

Fix the O-line and Phillip Rivers will be just fine. Considering drafting a young QB project for a few years down the line is fine though in the late rounds, but isn't a necessity.
